Tried it and it fixed my at least 10 year old Harbor Freight 3 ton floor jack. It stopped working altogether so I added jack oil and bled it at the rubber plug the way everybody says to, and that made it work. But it still leaked down slowly, about maybe an inch or two an hour. I bled it the way you said and it's working like new now. Thanks!

My pop was mechanical inspector had a german guy who was a masterful experienced expert at his job ..~ My dad said the guy would cuss up a storm when taking care of business , so i always made sure i cussed a whole hell of a lot , doing my mech work, hoping to be as expert as the German fella, gah! So cussing and working on hard mechanics stuff, goes hand-in-hand, around here !!! 😊 Carl NY 9/6/23

Steve ... I have the same jack you are showing 3 1/2 TON Mitchelin in the video with no obvious leaks. Follow your tip pumping the jack on the top end and now my jack works fine. I saved having to buy another jack or wasting my time installing a new jack kit that was not needed. Thank you, … Juan

Thank you Steve. I have a very expensive low profile/high lift jack that would always leak off and lower it's load over a 2 or 3 hour period. And after the load was off, it would drop all the way to it's lowest point. I had tried to find a jack repairman locally, but could not ... so i went to KZbin. When I saw your video I thought "That's so crazy it just might work." After cycling through the jack exactly the way you showed, I jacked up the back of my pickup about 4 hours ago and measured the distance to the ground. So far the jack has not lowered even 1/4" of an inch. Many thanks Steve!!

This guy is a wealth of knowledge. I remember seeing your video on that tire stem device that allows you to install a stem while the wheel is still on the truck. I decided to buy one and WOW.....worked like a charm! I have a roadside assistance business so now I can repair stems in the field without taking the tire off. Ive done it a few times already and made about $35 off of each. Thank you, Sir!

You are a genius. AC Delco 3.5 ton jack. Use it infrequently. Last weekend I needed to jack up a beam in my garage to take the sag out of it in order to build 2 temp walls for beam replacement. I would jack up the beam, measure the stud length, run to my miter saw, cut the stud, run back in, pump up the jack again, install the stud. What a beating. I was looking into rebuilding it when I ran across your tip. Worked like a charm. Thank you very much. I will be back at it this weekend to cut our old beam and replace with new. The jack will come in handy.

Another thing I've found in my experience, most of the videos showing bleeding hasn't worked for me. What I have found that did work was to pump the jack to almost full height, tip the jack vertically on its front end (wheels off helps hugely), open the release for the jack to go down. When on end like this, ALL the air is released from the lift cylinder before fluid starts being released. Set the jack down, open the fill plug, add oil as needed. Repeat at least one more time. I had a solid lift immediately, where previously I had a spongy jack following instructions from various videos. When doing it like this, you have to be DAMN careful, as there is a lot of weight to these jacks! Maybe even use a rubber pad when standing the jack on end.

I have a 2 /12 Ton Turin Floor Jack and have had very little success getting the air out as you have shown. When the lift arm is completely up, I can push on it, and the crank handle starts to shutter for a bit as the lift arm falls back a smidge. No matter how many times I attempt to bleed all the air out, seems like I can not get there. I don"t see any oil drops on any portion of the jack. Any thoughts on what else I could try?

I would check to make sure it's not low on oil first . If the oil is full your most likely needing a seal kit to repair it.

I’ve had the problem of my old jack slowly dropping, I’ve had time to get a stand underneath but it’s been getting worse, I’ve tried filling and bleeding and still wasn’t any better. I gave your method a go and now my jack works perfectly!! Thank you for saving me money

Its nice when people put things one here that actually help. I havent tried this on my jack yet, but I almost know from the comments that it will fix my jack that doesnt get used very often. It slowly creeps down when I jack something up with it. Thanks, EE

Thanks for this trick. My 2 1/4 ton jack started doing this for the first time. I jacked it up all the way with no weight and kept pumping about 20 more times. Went to try it again and it worked perfectly..
