How to fix a kitchen cabinet hinge - Cheap DIY cupboard fix! 🪛

This cheap metal plate fixed our cupboard hinge where it had pulled away from the cabinet wall. I'd tried putting toothpicks (matchsticks are the other suggestion) into the hole & it only worked for about a week before breaking again.

You must check the dimensions of the cupboard hinge you've got before buying anything.. make sure it's the right size and fits your hinge; mine hasn't got the circular indentation that a lot of cupboards do, so do your research & make sure you get the right one for your cabinet.

Interesting and clearly works but I'm missing how! Are the hinge screws not just going in to the 'torn' holes behind the plate and not want to tighten, or is it that the screws are self tapping the plate? Thanks.

The screws are indeed self-tapping into the metal plate.. I was tempted to use the original cabinet screws (which felt a bit more substantial), but used the ones that came with the kit to make sure they had the best chance of working as intended. So far so good; it's not showing any signs of problems & sees a fair amount of action given that the chocolate biscuits are in that cupboard 😆

@@jns8393 Yeah, there's a slight flex in the metal plate of mine, but that's actually good for my situation, since the cupboard bumps up against the granite worktop & pushes into the hinge (especially if the kids open the door too far) .. so the flex *should* help keep the screws from pulling out of the wood.. only time will tell, and I'll update the comments/description if I have trouble with this in the future.
