Thank you for doing the comparison of these two items. I had used the older style Apple iPad cover (front cover only) for a previous iPad I owned many years ago. It worked great but the one thing that concerned me is when the front cover is folded into the triangular configuration as a stand for the higher/more vertical viewing angle, the iPad just didn't seem to be that steady and secure, and it seems that it could easily fall over. When I upgraded and bought an iPad Air 4 almost 3 years ago, I considered getting the Apple Smart Folio, but I came across the Speck Balance Folio case, so I went with that instead, which offers much more protection, as well as multiple viewing angles. Obviously the advantage of the Apple Smart Folio is that it can easily be removed to use the iPad with one of Apple's keyboards which has a magnetic backing, and this setup allows you to transition it back and forth very easily. But what I found is that I prefer to use a separate stand-alone keyboard when I am typing, and keep the iPad in the Speck case all the time. I also saved a good chunk of money by buying the MX Keys Mini instead of buying one of Apple's keyboards. The other thing is that Apple has a hell of a lot of nerve selling that Smart Folio for $80 USD. I think I paid $50 for the Speck case. The sad truth is that when you are buying accessories for any Apple devices, you can almost always do much better and save money by going with Non Apple accessories.
@Endpoint10113 күн бұрын
The Spec case looks to be about £16-36 (depending on the colour) on Amazon right now (amzn.to/3S4FVtj).. it looks pretty good for the price. However, one listing says its 100g another 50g. I'd be interested to know what it actually is; all of the non-Apple cases I looked at were substantially heavier. They also added a lot of unnecessary bulk to the case; I wanted something minimal. Thanks for taking the time to let me know about this case.. much appreciated!
@edcipriani887312 күн бұрын
@@Endpoint101 - It's interesting because in the past when I have selected and purchased a case for either my iPhone or iPad, I look at higher levels of protection for the device and I don't really factor in weight or bulk, which is more important criteria for many people. I look at the extra bulk as a plus being that for me it's reassurance that the device is easier to carry or transport as well, with less of a chance that I will drop it. Although I do not recall any instances where I have dropped an iPad in the past, my phone has definitely survived a few drops and falls over the years. Thankfully I've never had any damage because I always go for a thicker case as well as a screen protector as soon as I get a new device. We all go with what works for us.
@Endpoint10112 күн бұрын
@@edcipriani8873 Yeah, I'm happy there are lots of options for whatever anyone values the most from their case. That's another good thing iPads have going for them; there's a lot of choice compared to other tablets.

I dont understand the use case of that. Unless i cant use my iPad Pro on the run (lets say when going by train for several hours) it doesn’t make sense. As long as the Switch (or whatever) needs to send to the video through hdmi (which means, the switch needs to sit in a charged dock), you can always just use your TV, or am I completely wrong? I mean, sitting outside with friends and maybe like to play Mario kart would be cool, but it’s not working if the switch needs to be in the docking station to send the video with hdmi.
@Endpoint101Ай бұрын
I used a Switch because that's the only console I own :) It shows the general concept of using an iPad as an external screen for practically anything.. so if you do have a small console like the Xbox Series S, you can take that with you and use the iPad as the display.. maybe for camping where you have access to power, but don't want to take a TV.
