@Steve's Small Engine Saloon IF there is no spark because the cable has basically stretched/gotten longer and can no longer pull the connection back as far as it needs to go, shouldn't one be shortening the cable so it can pull switch back into place to make the spark connection? Just a question so I have the correct information next time I need it, and Thank You!!

@@theducklinghomesteadandgar6639 The length of the cable, itself, is fixed - it can not be lengthened or shortened. The trick to unscrewing the plastic ends just makes the outer casing "longer" which fixes the problem for a while. Shorten the inside cable or lengthen the outside casing - two sides of the same coin. Good one, Steve! - Joe -

@@joesinakandid528 Thank you for responding and explaining!!! I'm sure my brain understood that somehow, or would if had been physically looking at it, but it is refusing to relay the info to me!!! lol!!! I'm missing something for me to grasp how making to the two points farther away from one another, when being slightly elongated likely from heat and a little due to normal wear and tear is the original issue in the first place, how can making the two point farther from each other fix it? Wouldn't the space between the two ends need to be shortened to return it back as close as possible to factory distance be what fixes the issue? I know it's something simple and I'm gonna smack myself in the head, I must be missing the knowledge of how the connections and inside cable work with one another and how they are placed around their connections spots. I'm gonna check the mower tomorrow!!!

Today I went from frustration to a big smile on my face. My lawnmower would not start because there was no spark. I bought a new ignition coil, no spark. I bought a new spark plug, no spark. I went to the internet and found Steve's video on the stretched engine brake cable. I noticed that for some reason I parked the mower with the engine brake disengaged. It must have stretched the cable and would not release the spark mechanism. I followed Steve's instructions and the mower instantly started with the first pull. My advice- do not store mower with stop bar tied to handlebar. Thank you Steve, you are the man! 😁😁
