I tried all the suggested items to silence my top but nothing worked. I finally fixed it. I picked up two SS flat washers 5/16. $0.68 remove the top and then remove the front cone shaped pins from the removeable top. Reattached them with the two flat washers. The noise comes from those pins not being fully inserted into their cone shaped holes. Possibly too much rubber weather stripping prevents the pins from being fully inserted. Presto, no more noise.

Interesting. I’ve read that there are supposed to be orings around the base which might somehow help the noise as well. I just bought my 2011 Grand Sport and it has some kind of foam tape wrapped around the cone shaped pins, as if someone tried to fix this problem a different way. So tonight I found an article and it said to slide a 5/32 snap ring into the gap on the roller. I did this and it’s helped greatly. Only cost $2.47!

Just bought my first Vette, a 2013. Roof was super squeaky. I followed this guidance and worked like a champ! Thanks for taking the time to pass this on. One note... I bought an alternate weatherstrip lubricant made by Precision, part number PRP 0075. It’s was $15 vs. $80 for the GM part number called out here.

Now go back and do the rear hatch. I have a '92 C4, and KZbin decided to play your video after one I had chosen about the top hold downs. But I do appreciate your advice. I had already planned to buy a ( toothpaste style ) tube of lubricant, but now I'm going to pick up the dielectric as well. Thanks, and happy motoring!

Really? This isn't anywhere near a top adjustment on a C6... Sorry, but this video is nothing more then a basic top maintenance. I found the only way I could get mine adjusted and noise free was using the only adjuster on the top ( the one never covered in this video ) and that would be the rear hook. It's not rocket science for adjusting the tension of the hook. Simply loosen the set nut, turn the hook in a turn, and try latching it. Repeat this one turn at a time until you get necessary tension for the rear hook to do it's job. Then tighten the set nut & your good. I had to do this one both my solid & glass tops after the first year on the road and it took away all the noise I had been dealing with.

Paying *$80 bucks* is crazy. Just make sure all the rubber everywhere (even in the grooves) is squeaky (no pun) clean, then apply any silicone based rubber conditioner - allow to set for a bit, wipe off any excess, which there really should be none anyway, and put the top back on. I have been using *Aerospace 303 products* on all the vettes I've had over the last 25 years.... Also, FORGET using that nasty ass di-electric grease. Guaranteed dust collector. Use a cloth and apply some spray lithium grease Not WD40. wipe off residue, then you're done until you hear it squeaking again.

This didn't work for me when I tried it a few years ago. The final solution was a lot simpler. Install an 'E clip' (I think 5/16") on each front handle pin. You don't even have to take the top off. Just open the latch, press the e clip in place and close. Instant quiet! The solution was proposed on corvetteforum by a former GM engineer.
@galadrhim110 жыл бұрын
BTW, I haven't had to touch the top since installing the e clips over 3 years ago. 100% silent ever since. The noise came from the front handles shifting left and right as the load would shift during left/right transitions. Both types of handles make the noise. The e clips keep the handles from moving at all.

+Matrim Cauthon Your corvette must be an older C6 because I think in 2010+ they came out with new targa top rollers and the eclip does not work on them..

Great video until the end where you slam the hatch. Huge pet peeve of mine to never drop it closed like that. The corvettes have a motorized system where if you softly drop it from maybe 6 inches it pulls it closed the rest of the way for you. I think it has to do with cabin pressure because if your doors are closed and windows up you have to drop it from a little further for it to work properly. Maybe its just me but im sure there are other owners who feel the same.

@melroset-top91395 ай бұрын
Please don't coat your rubber with this shit! It pisses your wife off when she eventually bumps into it with her nice dinner clothes. It will also get all over your hands whenever you take the roof off. Doesn't make sense anyways, rubber on rubber does not cause creaks. This is GM selling you shit you do not need. You may put a stingy amount on the pins and latch hook but any grease will work. Also we have worked on thousands of these roofs and never encountered a loose pin. You can check them, but these frames are magnesium, do not overtighten and strip the threads. Start addressing these noises by replacing your front o-rings on the front locating pins with new ones or larger ones or even doubling them up. Next if you have the early style latch with the roller type bushing, get rid of them and replace with the later fixed block style. These two things will fix 90% of the noise issues.
