From what I've heard the color changes because the resin burns the some paints. Like with any burn things become darker. This is just what has been told to me.

Thank you! I was wondering this! My resin cures quite quickly so the heat could definitely be a reason... curious that it only happens with some paints though.

@@LiaDiaDesigns so the pink going brown, is most likely because brown was part of the color initially used to make the pink. As it heated it may have become a dominant color that darkened. Brown is often used in making certain colors. The lady that described all this to me said it had to do with the process of coloring as to why I wasn't having this problem with all colors. It was odd and random to me, but made sense.

I, too, was thinking it had to do with heating/burning. Also, would water content in the paints make a difference? Less fluid perhaps in the Liquitex than the bottles? In any case, thanks for showing us that one can still salvage an oopsie😉🤩. I love the Nude Pink color.

Many years ago my hubby and I bought our first home, it needed some work.. to say the least.😂 Our renovation budget was $400. even in 1983 that wasn’t much.😆 So, we bought the cheapest (matte) paint we could find and painted every room. Once it dried, we soon discovered that when we touched the walls our hands came away covered in a chalky substance.. washing it removed the paint entirely.🤦🏻‍♀️ We ended up repainting the entire house.. with an oil based paint!😅 That’s our matte finish fail story.😂 To this day.. I am still not fond of a matte finish.🤣 But.. I do think your coasters are beautiful!❤

😅🥰 What an experience! I totally understand your aversion to matte paint! I prefer eggshell personally, but it's definitely pricey. In this case, I'm actually really happy with this 'fail' experience because I love the look of the acrylic paint painted on the resin rather than mixed into the resin (even if the colour was right)... somehow you can tell it's matte even after the topcoat.

This was a fantastic learning tutorial, thank you 🙏 for taking the time to willingly teach us, how to think outside the geode 😜. I did some research on the cookie cutter mold, and you can use the metal cookie cutters to make a resin blank, you just need to spray the cookie cutter with resin release spray. It definitely works. I was wondering, if you painted the back of your leaves, lightly, with UV Resin. That would prevent bubbles and maybe prevent discolouration of the leaves. One way or another, I sincerely love those coasters, they are quite elegant. Love and well wishes, to you and your family ♥️🙏💐💐💐💐

🤩🥰thank you so much Fiona. Another person also mentioned making a blank from the cookie cutter, so that could definitely be a possibility. For the leaves, I generally stay away from UV resin just because it can yellow much faster than 1:1. I think a few more coats of the sealant would've worked too. But, I'm actually really happy about the look we got on the final version of the leaves, happy accidents!🥰

Coasters turned great. Beautiful design. ❤ The one thing acrylic paints have that is a no no with resin is they all contain water. Not sure how much effect that has. I know it doesn’t cure if to much is used. I’m not a chemist 😂 I avoid mixing acrylic paints in resin, I’ve never had a problem pouring resin over acrylics, or oil pastels, as I paint portraits of animals and like to seal them with resin. I wait at least 6 months to seal the oil pastels to ensure it’s completely dry. Thanks for sharing your finds much appreciated ❤

💕thank you. Same, I use acrylics all the time in my designs on resin (and then topcoat) but rarely do I mix it IN resin... so this was an interesting experience. I have to admit though, I really like the matte look of painting the entire coaster surface, so I may do this more often... mixing in resin doesn't give the same look.

Beautiful. I agree about the chemical reaction the heat of the resin causes. You can also use gold leaf glue for the foil. It won't be as textured, but works like a charm.

I actually use the same foil products that you use in this video but I do use another product. I am also a furniture artist and company called artistic paint studio has a million different foils in several patterns. They also have a foil adhesive that comes in a jar. Just a different option but I also use these exact same products which are great.

Have you thought about painting it with the mica before putting into the coaster it might help with the transparency of the leaves

Painting the leaves with mica? I did consider it but thought any loose mica may float when I topcoated with resin.... I guess sealing it is a possibility as well. I may try that at some point😊 thanks for the suggestion

This is such an awesome idea to reuse cus I have some other pieces I didn’t like so knowing I can save them is a awesome tip! Also I think it might also be that normally with acrylic paints that do dry darker then the normal wet paint in the bottle and could also be that they are craft paint the binders might not be able to hold up to keep with the exact color. Just my thoughts 😄

This is the information I was needing. I brushed on mica powder on my coaster and when I un-mold it I can see streaks. I am thinking to use acrylic paint to cover it up with a sticker and put a top coat. Do you think that would work? Do I need to let the acrylic paint to cure before putting a top coat? Thanks.

Hi😊 Acrylic paint can definitely work, I would recommend 2-3 thin layers so you don't get noticeable brush marks (I did thicker layers in this video). Yes, the acrylic paint will need to be fully dried / cured before you add your topcoat of resin.

You bought "craft paint." It is diluted and liquid. Any water doesn't react well with resin. You need tube paint from the "professional" section in your craft store. It is highly pigmented and undiluted.
