My mate and I both got Trek Rail 5's. From new we both get a metallic 'rasping' noise when travelling at speed but thats with the brakes off. Seems to becoming from rear only and has not 'bedded in' after 400 miles. Discs not fouling caliper, stops when brakes applied.

Hi John, thanks for watching, it's often the case that different manufactures of brakes have their own little characteristics, especially when hot or warm, including climate. some are louder than others. most are bled in different ways to get the best from them, however If you don't feel that they working correctly get them checked out. Thanks again for watching

Also it could be type of pads. Resin are generally quiet and sintered can squeak badly even if not contaminated at all. Also i think its good to clean rotors when installing new pads. It's a good hack with leaving it over night like that to check for leaks. If you tilt the bike so leavers are at the highest point of the whole system all the air bubbles if you have any will travel to leaver and (in case of shimano) easy bleed at leaver gives you nice feel and better breaking. Anyway nice job with those videos. Keep it up. Stay safe

Hi, thanks for watching, yes that can be true but you find more often that that’s a different king of squeal, brakes can be so awkward sometimes, good tip by the way, thanks.

Can you assist please I have a reise and muller nevo gt 2022, fitted with generation 3 bosch cx motor, out on a ride of say 10-twelve miles I get a clunking noise coming l think the motor area, for approx 1p-2secs then back to normal , it isn't an engagement sound from motor but a definite clonck, then back to normal ,it is an intemittant noise say once or twice on ride, Regards Michael

Hi, thanks for watching, sounds like that are so difficult to diagnose, especially when it's so intermittent, not sure of the millage. If its new in 2022 then it has 2 year warranty, get it checked out by a bosch dealer, they can create a service case if needed and listen to the motor generally.

About 12 months ago my dealer upgraded under warranty my original SRAM front brake to a Code R, after a while it started to honk like Crusty the Clown with light applications; a good fist full of brake was OK. Cleaned disc, but no change. Later I removed the pads, cleaned a bit of waste pad material off them, checked the steel spring pieces were seated exactly and carefully re-installed the pads. Hardly makes any noise at all now......another of life's mysteries.

Could also be an oscillating disc, or different type of steel used for rotor. E.g. I've used a random disc on a bike and it squeald like a pig, having checked stuff over and found no issues, changed the disc for same manufacturer as the brakes and hey presto no noise. Useful vid though Dave 👍

Hi, thanks for watching, the issue here is that the bike has been ok in the past and nothing has changed. From experience the sound is contamination, there are a few reasons that they squeal and your correct the reason you mention could be one of them,

I think a good idea is to scuff with some 400grit sandpaper and then clean with some rubbing alcohol the brake disc as well

heating the pads with a heat gun works fine. just need to heat them so that the oil evaporates in a puff of smoke. i sand off any possible glaze before this.
