I identified the issue thanks to your video, Chris, and my husband was able to change the part after a next day Amazon shipment. You probably will never see this comment but seriously THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! We have a baby due in two weeks and haven’t been able to laundry in a week. We just moved into a duplex so we’d have more space but had to buy our own washer and dryer. Could only afford a $135 used set and just about broke down because the washer wasn’t spinning. My husband followed this video and now it’s working like it’s brand new, seriously... I don’t think anyone would understand how much this has helped us 😫😫😫 I MEAN IT WAS A $5 FIX. WOW! THANK YOU

You rock, bro. I've been fixing stuff at home for a long time now, most repairs have been relatively easy but I'll tell ya - it often takes longer to find a video that is clear, fast and minus all the blah, blah, blah than it does to do the actual repair! You provide perfectly clear, easy to follow, easy to see directions with no ten minute intro featuring your dog. Not that I have a problem with people's dogs - I'm just here to learn something! The Repair Clinic video for this same fix instructs people to remove the case! Oh, my god, why? That's a huge waste of time. Also no need to detach the wiring harness, which they also advise, though at least that only adds a few seconds. I found it best for me to lay the washer down on its back. The rest was no sweat. I paid 8 bucks for the part, obviously up in price from 8 years ago. For people never doing it before, don't expect 10 minutes to fix, though. Took me an hour, but that includes cleaning the underside, gathering tools, setting up a light, disconnecting hoses, putting it all back. I call that a win. 8 bucks, one hour - thanks, man. I'll be checking your vids first in the future!

I have an older whirlpool top load washer from the early 90's that recently stopped working. It filled and drained the drum like normal but neither the agitator nor the drum would spin. The clothes basically just sat in still water for 15 minutes. Thankfully my washer design is almost exactly like the Kenmore in this video, so every step that Chris does matches with my washer too. I checked under the washer and found lots of shredded plastic and broken prongs from the old coupler. I knew immediately that I had the same issue from the video. Every step was the same as Chris described, except the coupler I used was really hard to get on the motor and transmission shafts. that caused a 15 minute job to turn into 2 hours. I had to use a hammer to get them on, and it still took well over an hour to get them both on. After that everything else just fell into place. I'm so thankful for this video, this video and an $8 coupler saved me from having to spend several hundreds of dollars to replace my washer. It works just like before! I'm glad there's a channel likes Chris' that encourages regular people to perform their own repairs.

I have a front loader now, but I remember working kenmore machines with my dad back in the day and changing these couplers. Wish we thought of a jack stand used a cinder block. The farther back you can lay over the machine, the easier it will be w/o having to remove the cabinet. Beyond 45º worked well. The weight of the motor will assist in re-seating the motor to the transmission. I used a dab of dishwashing liquid on the plastic tabs of the coupler to make it easier to slide the motor onto the seated coupler in the transmission. A rubber mallet is a must. Not quite the "5-minute job" Chris billed it to be, but still HUGE cudos to him for providing this video and enabling me to avaoid a call to the Maytag [in this case, Kenmore] repair man! Thanks, Chris!
@judythompson887 жыл бұрын
Can you just lay it down on its back completely? And work from the bottom?
@steverahe6 жыл бұрын
yes, but then you'd want to remove the H and C supply hoses and the drain hose. So instead put a bucket or paint can BEHIND the machine when tilting it back so you don't have to take off the hoses etc.
@christinamarie40022 жыл бұрын
Another important reason NOT to lay the washer entirely down on the floor-there’s a vent hole on the top surface of the gear case and it can leak oil. It is nearly impossible to refill this oil and a new gear case is big bucks$.

Thanks man! One video had me trying to take the shell off first. I was like, What a pain in the ass. Has to be an easier way... Found your vid. Jack stand and a straight screedriver, DONE! Lol, I didn't need the 1/4. Apparently this machine was worked on before because they didn't put those back in! Hah Keep creating brotha!

I have been watching this channel since before I even had a car. I had no idea you had non-car videos. I got my first apartment that came with a broken washer. Who knew I'd get help from the same person who walked me through my first brake job.

Gagik Ginosyan they are the best and easiest to work on . The new ones are nothing like these so hold on to these old whirlpool/ Kenmore / roper washing machines if you have them. They are truly the best you can get these days 👍👍

Thank you , this was the best video I’ve seen to fix this. I am a single mom and your video help me fix my own washer. No man wanted to fix it for me or they wanted to charge me $100 to fix, when the part was only $8 bucks on Amazon. Your easy step video was the truth!!! Thank you! ❤

This worked great. It was the 1st video that came up and it was super easy to follow, the camera work was great etc. I ordered the part for $8 and fixed the washing machine in 15 minutes. I am not even very mechanical but was very proud of the result. Thanks Chris.

Saved my washing machine thanks to you!! I thought it was done after 20 yrs. The part was $16 at a local shop. I didn't want to wait for the $8 coupler on Amazon ( side note- the part sizing was off, and used the old part for side that didn't level out). Took me longer 30-40 min because of lack of tools and space. Glad I was able to diagnose and repair it because of your video!

Great guide. My old school whirlpool's rubber bit in the coupler shaved itsself a bit so i cleaned it an aligned it back up. It's still working but not for long so I ordered my part and just looked this up to see what I was doing. Straight forward and because of ChrisFix I may use AC Delco stands to hold it up XD
