My mother suffered from "Lupus'. I watched her my whole life, it scarred me. She was a trooper though, she lived life as fully as she could when able, did everything the doctors told her to do, took their toxic pills and at age 68 died from Cirrhosis of the liver. They blamed the Lupus for the liver damage, but she had to sign a consent form to take a drug that the side effect could be liver damage. I was there when she signed. I questioned the wisdom of this, but she trusted the doctors implicitly. Now that I realize what has been going on, I've had to grieve the passing of my mother all over again. But you know, she would've never not believed anything the doctors said. So....all I can do is salvage my own health back from the brink of all the lies from the medical establishment.

I am a fairly new of this dynamic duo but I am a 15-years follower of Functional Medicine. With this kind of new science medicine, a fantastic doctor and my hard work I have stabilized my Autoimmune Hashimoto's and my other auto-inflammatory conditions at age 73,. After a lifetime of standard American diet, I am NOW on the AIP (The low inflammation Auto-inflammatory foods protocol) I am working on my metabolic health everyday and getting even healthier. I am not wealthy (in retirement) so paying out-of-pocket medical costs is not easy. But by simplifying my life, cutting out the wants and focusing on the "needs" it can be done. have willingly given up my vacations, eating out, one vehicle and focusing on organic, nutrient rich, home cooked foods. My health is my wealth!!

Brilliant. Everything in here is so spot on. Casey and Calley successfully simplify the over-complicated problem of the nutrition / illness connection that is exploding in our culture and causing so much suffering. The last part where Casey talks about connection gave me chills. "Interconnectedness" is a fundamental Buddhist teaching. I point this out because for thousands of years, Buddhist practitioners have spent time deeply contemplating the implications of recognizing how everything is connected. "I am because you are." It changes how we consume, how we treat each other, everything! Contemplating interconnectedness is a powerful path to peaceful relationships, a healthy earth-ecosystem and robust physical health. I can't wait to get my hands on this book!

For the past five years, I’ve been fighting an uphill battle with my health. I adopted a keto lifestyle, lost 100 pounds, and still have 50 more to go. But the journey has been challenging, especially with the constant misinformation from the food industry. They market so many products as "healthy" or "keto-friendly," but it’s often just a ploy to profit from our struggles. The truth is, the only real solution is sticking to whole, unprocessed foods. For me, focusing on vegetables first, then protein, and finally carbs, has been the key to success. Processed foods, with their hidden sugars and addictive additives, act like a drug. Every time I ate them, I felt the pull-they dominated my thoughts and left me craving more. We need to break free from the grip of these harmful foods. It starts with making intentional choices and understanding the impact of what we eat. Whole foods are the path to real, lasting health. I am on a fixed income and paid to have the CGM so I could see what the foods do to me. Its amazing the difference when I see this I can choose better.

Generally correct re chronic disease but frustratingly "general" in talking about the causes. Diet - yes definitely, pollutants - hmm maybe, sleep deprivation - well possibly. We need more specific understanding of mitochondrial function and specifically what disorders their function. I have fixed up my diet according to their recommendations, lost weight and improved health markers, but still have frustratingly low energy and a disappointing lack of stamina. Hope there are more discoveries soon which lead to more focused advice.

Have followed you for years now, Casey, in my search to understand health better (not my field), and like your podcasts. So, I am interested in what you are saying about the cause of insulin resistance (~40 minutes in here). So, my question is why can't the mitochondria handle the excessive amount of glucose coming in to them? (What is the trigger to them that it is too much, and just saying that you will store the extra energy instead doesn't seem like a bad solution.) So, lately I have been buying into Dr. Cate Shanahan's theory on insulin resistance. By her theory, it is the mitochondria trying to use/burn PUFAs, which results in excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) {much more than if burning the normal saturated fat that the body would store from excessive sugar}, such that they can't burn fat, thus leaving the body to try to run on glucose alone, and the body is trying to increase the glucose in the blood to allow that, because there isn't enough to do that (with the body being designed to run on its own fat most of the time, and able to store energy as fat when needed). We hear about insulin resistant people not being able to burn their own body fat from most keto people, until after an "adaptation" (healing from insulin resistance?) period. So anyhow, just trying to see the big picture. Would love to hear an interview between you and Dr. Cate - maybe on Levels - ?

Came from Tucker's 2 hour + interview. Are these statistics about the health of all Americans accurate 100%, or is it possible they are adjusted and tampered with. Secondly, the meat industry's conglomeration is not a weak one. I respect Tucker's concern about getting a quality beef steak, but is it a healthy necessity, and isn't it better and more natural to hunt and kill an animal yourself. Are there really rows and rows of cows to be found in a forest, lined up for the convenience of a blood thirsty human. But nobody will address the negative and atrocious effect this killing business and meat consumption issue has on a more compassionate happy future. Luckily I am not exactly yet a nobody, so maybe somebody will listen. Thanks.
