Thanks for teaching! For people who don’t know this already, The VAG (vw audi group) including Porsche and Seat uses the same 100 millimetre CV’s from the early 1970’s as my Baywindow bus’s CV’s looks identical to the Porsche one, even some Beatles with the IRS had them! So it should be available new for decades to come as it is commonly used

I remember rebuilding One for an accord. A bit different but once I took it apart I was like wow, pretty simple.

This is random and I'm only asking in desperation lol. Had been watching you for over a year before I realized you live in my area. Anyways I have a 94 Miata that has been down for 2 years now over a wiring problem. It's bone stock. Would you want to look at it? Or know of a good local shop?

You can, but like rewinding starter motors and alternators the materials are generally the same price as a new shaft. I usually replace the whole shaft and keep the old one as a spare. If you snap a drive shaft the ends are generally still good so you put your old shaft in with your new bearings.

Thats all good and well if your CV looks like this. I've rebuilt a handful and I've never seen one like this. They usually have 3 dicks with bearings held on with circlips. You replace the failed bearing and the cup if the bad bearing gouged it out.

What you describe is a "tripod joint" where as the one in this vid is a "homokinetic joint" Many cars actually has one of each (tripod near the diff and homokinetic near the wheel)

@@dirchkjeldgaard9454 learn something new every day. Where I worked har a lot of Toyota 4x4s and they used to crack boots and get full of crap so I would pull them apart, clean them up, regrease the bearing and put new boots on.

Splines need to be lubed, must pack the bearing with grease well, forget the boot, really! :)
