Many many thanks for this particular video. The only individual on the entire internet who worked out the solution to this infernal issue. Fortunately I have a Sennheiser wireless set up and it works. It’s driven me mad. You’ve made my day. Thanks.

@ianskelly9046 Hi Ian, Thanks for watching. This was killing me for so long since i rely on my iPhone to make videos as many people do and the mic I use was so great. It was terribly annoying not to have it working for some bug. This wasn't being talked about so I made this video and glad you found it. My business is men's clothing. Thank you for this information. I have one question. I am using a lightning port adapter with iPhone 14 running iOS 16.6 I have an external Lavalier that I would like to connect to the proper adapter. Can you please suggest which adapter might help me alleviate my external mic not showing up in my iPhone? Thank you.

@khayree Thanks for the comment. Your lightning port adapter is the same type I mentioned in this video? What is the connection from your Lavalier mic?

@deepnlow Apple fixed this issue with iOS 16.2, so the old set up works again. No work around needed if you upgrade.

Thankyou for this video! I also use a standard iPhone 12 for video & had no idea about the iOS 16 update external mic issues as I’ve yet to update away from 15.7… Looks like I’ll avoid updating for a bit. Definitely helpful info 🙏

Yes, avoid it. Rumor has it this ios fixed in iOS 16.1 but it is still in beta. Keep what you have for now.

@Blake Willis Thanks so much for the kind words. I'll find a few more tech things to review. Did you happen to catch a Porsche review I did last year? No background music, sort of out of style on You Tube now. I do love my ending music though.

Dear sir. I have iphone 13 pro and have all the dongles which you shown here including the dongle which has External mic port, Charging Port and external Headphone port. when i connect with the mobile for listening the karaoke and recording the vocal. the voice will be very less and it takes only outside noise. i can listen the karaoke but can't record. I tried in all the way but no success. (I tried with Smule, StarMaker etc etc..) I am using IOS 16.1.2 can you please solve it.. Thank you.

Thank you for the video, sir. I appreciate you bringing the subject up. I've been having this problem on iPhone XR. Way before software 16.2. It was rejecting common lapel mics with lightning cable jack. Now I have a newer iPhone SE generation2 running software 16.2, and it will not take an external mic. Even the one that already has the lightning dongle on it, such as the lapel mics, Bluetooth mics, nada. Even when I record with the built-in mics, the sound in playback is very poor, very airy and noisy. If I'm recording someone singing, for example it will sound OK, and then abruptly, the volume will go lower and then back high, and then low no matter what sound I recorded. it is the strangest thing and I hope Apple recognizes this issue because when I called, they said they never heard of this problem before?! I'm considering buying a standalone camera that I can't afford, so I can get normal audio quality in my videos. Any all in ones that are cheap you can recommend that are easy to use for KZbin videos? Thank you so much forgive me for renting.

@Danny's Vinyl Rainbow Thanks for watching the video. Another subscriber said that when he updated his firmware on his Shure MV-88 mic it began to work on iOS16.2. Before that he could not attach the external mic to his iPhone. In regards to a camera check out the Canon M50 MII. Reasonable price and many many You Tubers use this. Sony A6400 is another, bit more pricey, but widely in use by You Tubers. Hope that helps. Could be you need at least iPhone 12.

@@johnhanus2455 understood. How are you connecting it to the phone. Are you using the Apple lightning to usb 3 camera adapter?

I have IOS 15 and I used your method of running a cable from my laptop to the lightning port and my mic still doesn’t work :( the one time it did work out of the 22 times I tried the audio kept cutting out. I think either my phone is not registering the mic as audio input or the connector I bought is faulty. What should I do?

@Noreen Salem Thanks for watching. IOS 15 should allow you to connect your mic so its not the OS causing the issue. The mic cannot be connected directly to the phone since the phone cannot supply enough power. You must have the Apple Camera Adapter from Apple. It has a lightening connector to go into the phone & the other end has a lightening port to get power from your computer & a USB-A port to connect your mic. This should work. I use Filmic Pro app to record video. Get it but not the subscription version unless you need that.I can say even with this set up, that does work, sometimes I have to unplug & replug the mic to get power to it. Once its on it stays on. Hope this helps.
