2016 Impala - After taking it to Chevy for diagnosis, they said it was short in the compressor and $2300 to fix. I didn't buy it. Air was blowing hot at red lights non stop. Eventually was toggling ac on and off for about a month to get it to kick on. After watching this video, I fixed the problem. I didn't have a matching AC Relay to swap so I took out the relay and put it back in. I still can't believe it, but I've had no issues since I did that. Going on 4 days now. THANK YOU!!!!

Wow! I am a degree'd electrical engineer who started with electronics over 65 years ago when I was 7. I know a bit about mechanical systems, too. About a month after a front end collision my car AC had this same symptoms, no hot air and no clacking sound, which I assumed (and hoped was a relay), even after a recharge. I was ready to start testing the compressor for voltage, and decided to check KZbin for any advice first. Wow, again! I have all the electrical test equipment of course, but needed exactly all the information in this thorough, and well, best ever, video! Thank you for totally enhancing the checks I can now do, including clutch spin tests, sensor tests, and an OBDII test. Also for putting them in such an experienced based logical order. It was 104 degrees at noon when my neighbor asked me to look at his non-functioning a/c. He's an old retired pastor and needed to drive a long way later that day. I was sure I wouldn't be able to fix it for him that day, but I took a look at it. As sweat rolled off me I lost track of what I was testing, but somehow I concluded it was just the relay for the compressor clutch. It's awesome to feel like the hero once in a while!

Mmm when you were checking the voltage at the connector you left the clip on the positive side of the battery so you were checking ground not voltage. That's still fine actually because you also have to check ground too as well as battery voltage. Repeat the same thing tho just take the lead and put it to the negative side. You won't get voltage right away that's fine you would turn on the car and everything along with AC to get voltage that way. The safest way would be a bi-directional scanner that can turn the clutch on then do the test. I use a test light on ground it's easier for me that way. Still great video on AC it's nice to see a video that can help people with this topic ac is nice in your car especially when it's like 105 out and also humid. Like where I live and seeing the comments this vid is doing wonders for everyone. Hope it racks like all the views x3.

Great video, but no mention of a repeatedly blowing fuse, which sends power from relay to compressor. This is a common problem, usually caused by a short in the clutch, and should be one of the first things checked.
@veng9824 Жыл бұрын
Repeatedly blown fuses are due to magnetic coil behind the clutch is short. Clutch not engaged sometime due to magnetic coil is broken open - using ohmeter sound continuity connected to ground and magnetic coil wire to hear a beeping sounds proving it is good.
@veng9824 Жыл бұрын
Short not in the clutch- short is in the magnetic coil behind the clutch which is just a springplate.

Awesome detailed video.!! I wish I could figure out where to begin with trouble shooting my AC. I just bought a 2010 Lexus RX 350. A/C does not work. took it to a local garage, the evacced tested and recharged the system. still no AC.. they attached their "scan thing" and they were able to get the compressor to kick on and blow ice cold AC. while it was connected. but no AC without it connected.. could it be a communication problem with the car computer? or could it be a sensor ? I hate to bring it to a megabuck lexus dealer.

I really hope your video is my saving grace and that the evaporator temp sensor is the problem on my 99 Silverado. My ac will blowva bit cold for some time, then start blowing warm or hot. I'll turn it off for like 5 to 10 minutes & it will start blowing cool, sometimes a bit cold. Ive replaced the low pressure sensor multiple times and it will do the same thing. So it Doesn't appear to be the low press switch Thanks for the video. Its the most detailed video ive found so far.
@proclaimliberty20006 ай бұрын
@@victorramosjr2445 My best guess is there is not enough refrigerant or too much refrigerant in the system, or it has a faulty expansion valve or orifice tube depending on which one your vehicle has. It is aways best to add refrigerant by weight because then you know you have the correct amount. I have a video in my playlist showing how to do that and how to replace an expansion valve.
