I am 75 years old and in the last few years have developed crepey skin on the under sides of my upper arms, my tummy, and upper thighs. I was taking collagen capsules and found them expensive if you could actually get enough that way. I watched my 90 year old mother's skin before she died almost three years ago and realized that her skin had become so very fragile and would tear easily. I wanted to avoid that problem if I could. I started lifting free weights at home and also taking powdered collagen. It is not a miracle, but it has firmed and thickened my skin so it isn't so crepey or fragile. At almost 76, I'll take it. I also follow a semi vegetarian diet (for over 40 years now) and take quite a few supplements that I have researched over the years.

Nooe, This belief is an example of “common sense” being wrong. Ask a dermatologist and they will tell you that unless you have a serious deficiency of some vitamin or mineral, what you eat and drink does not have much effect on your skin. The products you put on your skin are effective because you can get a useful amount to the skin and some products penetrate to some skin layers. Glycolic acid has a small molecule size so it gets deeper into pores than other exfoliants. You could never eat or drink enough glycolic acid (if it was safe) to get enough in your skin to make a difference. Drinking a lot of water is good for your kidneys as long as you don’t overdue it, but it won’t hydrate your skin - you have to apply a topical product to hydrate your skin. Collagen powders might be an exception - there is some data supporting ingesting them.
@gingerchipper11 ай бұрын
@@DallasNatureLover to a degree you’re correct, however, as a nurse practitioner I can say one of the ways we can immediately test for hydration while waiting for blood work, is to pinch the skin (the skin turgor test) to see if it immediately goes back or if it tents. Thus, the skin is affected by the level of hydration of the cells in the body. What we put in our bodies does indeed affect our skin health. All one has to do is look at the skin of someone who has poor nutrition to notice the dull lackluster skin tone.

I have been dealing with breast cancer treatment for the past year, however in the middle of this I have managed to make my skin look even better due to some changes in my supplements and routine. I look much younger than I am which is beneficial to me considering I‘ve been a professional career model since I was a teenager, so my looks literally affect my income, haha. I’m 40 now but people always think i’m somewhere between 28 and 32. And I don’t have a complicated 20 step routine. My skin was already fantastic but about a year ago right around the time I was diagnosed, I added a collagen supplement that I drink in my tea once a day, as well as adding a good vitamin C serum and good chemical exfoliants. I have never had Botox or fillers and I don’t have any fine lines around my eyes whatsoever, only two very light lines on my forehead, and slight smile lines. No bad sun spots, discoloration, and I’m soft as a babies butt 😂. I wash with a good cleanser only once a day, followed by vitamin C serum, a good face oil like squalane, then a nice thick moisturizer at night. During the day I do not wash my face, but only use the vitamin C serum, a light moisturizer, and 50 SPF beauty of Joseon sunscreen. Every other day at night I use a chemical exfoliant (do keep in mind that I do not have sensitive skin), and three days a week I use prescription Retin-A. And that’s it! On my own KZbin I’m sharing my breast cancer journey in order to hopefully help other women with breast cancer, as I’m not shy about showing my breasts, and what they look like through the process. But perhaps besides the breast cancer itself and my reconstruction I should also share my skin routine? Maybe it would help breast cancer sufferers to feel better about how they look and caring for their skin through this rough journey as well? I don’t know, I’m just pondering out loud, lol. If anyone has suggestions for what they think might also help I’m all ears, as I’m used to posing in front of a camera, not talking to one 🤣. But I’m getting much better at it! At least I hope I helped someone reading this as to what they might try skin wise! This was a good video by the Doctor. I love these professionals as apposed to “influencers”.

@@mySydan I totally understand that those treatments do such detrimental things to your skin, hair, and the rest of your body. I chose to have a double mastectomy as apposed to the lumpectomy and radiation that the oncologist was suggesting. There were many reasons I chose a DMX and one of them was to avoid radiation and some of the possible horrible side effects. If I have a recurrence in the future radiation is still an option. I was also a bit asymmetrical and the tumor was in my smaller breast. A lumpectomy would have made me VERY asymmetrical and would have likely ended my career. I’m so sorry that you have had to suffer both through chemo and radiation. It truly ravages the body. I’m hoping I don’t need it in the future, it scares me. I’m 66 and have been using Necessair for about 4 months now and I love my results. After I shower, before drying, I use Argan oil on my body. Towel dry and mix the retinol and lotion together at night and wake up with a lot less creppy skin. I also like their scrub bar, neck serum and regular serum. They are a very stand up company wish they did wrinkle serum for face

Get some quality castor oil and put it everywhere on your skin while still wet from the shower. Then towel off. I've been doing this for decades and my skin looks good (I'm 71 years old). Your skin will be much better! If you want a less thick oil, add some coconut oil or olive oil to whatever feels right for you.

For the body, in the morning, I use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner on the body followed by a Vitamin C serum then Olay Vitamin C body lotion. At night, I rotate either Amlactin 12% lotion or Gold Bond Retinol body cream. When needed, if I’m extra dry, I add in one of the less expensive Korean essences to hydrate before the cream. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Wish I’d taken before and after. Try it! Treat your body like your face. You are worth it 😘😘

This videos was very helpful! I would love to see a video on oral collagen. That said, oral collagen does help me. I have arthritis and feel a difference in my knees when I am consistent with taking collagen daily. I think it may be helping my skin feel less itchy and dry. Also, after using the Omnilux face mask and seeing a reduction in the depth of fine lines and wrinkles on my face, I recently purchased a full body red light panel. I am hoping this will help with body skin health, as well as pain relief for arthritis and overall health and wellness. My knee was acting up recently and felt immediately better after a red light treatment, so I am hopeful. When I go to physical therapy, they use a laser for pain relief so I feel like the red light panel was a good investment. Take care!

I’m surprised I never hear anything about sauna use from dermatologists as there seems to be robust data from Finland, where sauna use is the norm for most people. I started going to an infrared sauna 3x a week about six months ago and there has been a clear boost in collagen. It’s the first benefit I noticed and it only took a couple of weeks to start seeing the change. My face is fuller and the skin has tightened up nicely. I have cheek bones again! I’ve also observed that it’s a great exfoliant. Once I’m really perspiring I gently rub flat fingers across my skin and it’s amazing how much dead skin cells come off. After a few visits this dead skin is reduced quite a bit and so I find very little coming off now. Could you do a video on the benefits of sauna as a treatment for skin and collagen growth?

Could you do a video explaining astringents, toners and essences and how/who/when to use each? If you're looking for an effective way to improve your skin, try Castor oil. It's a well-known secret that won't cost you a fortune! Add a few drops of frankincense and carrier oil of your choice, and you'll see a remarkable difference quickly. Your skin will thank you for it! Make sure you get your oils in a dark bottle, NOT plastic.

Hi Dr. Sam. Thanks for this. I’m 73, left with super crepey skin after gradual 50 lb weight loss. My face and neck have responded to a regimen of 10% alpha hydroxy cream plus retinaldehyde cream which I alternate. But these products are cost prohibitive for large areas. My arms concern me most. I used to have beautiful arms. I’m a dancer. I’d like to wear tank leotards without upper arm skin flapping like bat wings when I dance. I’m going to try Glytone body lotion first. You said it can cause irritation which tells me it’s strong, my skin does well with stronger acids as long as I start slow. And the price point is very affordable. Walmart, who knew? Last but not least, I’ve been taking bovine collagen powder for a year with no visible effect on my skin, but arthritic pain is much less and my range of motion is much better.

Great information! Great comments! Great presentation! It was so nice to see a knowledgeable professional informing rather than "selling"! This sounds too simple to be true, but when I see crepey skin on my body, it seems to just be a red flag that I'm dehydrated! If I over-hydrate at that point, (for me - 80 Oz of water instead of normal 64, & less if dehydrated) then it's gone in 24 hrs. Chapped lips is my other dehydration signal! Thanks for the info, though, since I do moisturize & it's helpful to know about high-quality products! Thanks!

There will be better products in future. A Scientist from Cambridge Uni make a breakthrough in skin aging in 2022. It was an accidental breakthrough. He was testing Chemicals to regenerate skin, decided to try a different combination, and left it overnight. He thought 'this isn't going to work'. The next morning when he checked it, it had worked and regenerated the skin to make it look 30 years younger. They will have to test it for safety so might be a few years before being released to the public. But 30 years is amazing. Anti aging is coming.
