I'm 71, retired & am happier than I've ever been. I don't have to wake up to an alarm clock, I don't have to dress "appropriately" - in fact many days I stay in my jammies 😊just because I can, I don't have to put up with bosses, co-workers and I could go on. I have a few more aches & pains, take more pills (including vitamins & nutritionals) and all the other things that go along with aging (now, what was I doing??). But I would not trade being 71 for anything. This is the best time of my life!

Since COVID, I have had no treatments at all, plus I have lost 30 lbs. My face is so wrinkly, and my everywhere is crepey. I am 73, and I just don’t care anymore. My husband says he can’t tell the difference. I always wear a mask. My friends love me the way I am. So now all the money I will save on my face will go toward my teeth. Yuck. I use The Ordinary 1% retinol as my body oil a few times a week (it's in a jojoba + squalane base, perfect for body skin). It's super cheep, so I just buy 3 or 4 at once and pour them all into a bigger bottle. Paula's Choice also has a nice retinol body lotion but I personally prefer that Ordinary hack. Same with their Glycolic toner - huge bottle, works great on the body.

I worked critical care and ER for decades. Had to resign about 4 years ago for medical reasons. And you are right on about the need for sunscreen. Face, décolletage, and ARMS/HANDS! Nothing shows age like hands. I have very dry hands and constantly lotion up. I stick with Cerave, Neutrogena, and Cetaphil exclusively. I use the face cleansers for body care. Neutrogena extra dry for skin is great! People need to cut the daily bathing rituals which dries out skin. Change to every 2 to 3 days for full body cleansing and just wash the moist areas daily. Exfoliate weekly definitely. Full body exfoliation really helps those great moisturizing agents like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides. La Roche has a great hand product.

One thing that I have noticed, I am 62 today is using Cerave my forearms the inside look pretty nice and I have noticed that older women that is where the crepey skin shows up first. Sun screen is amazing however, I understand we block the sun Vit D when we use it. I really like Cerave I don't know why I don't use it on my face. I have a ton of stuff I use on my face and I think I am losing the battle. At age 33 I had my first surgery for skin cancer. It started with malignant Melanoma, and for the 45 years since I’ve had more surgeries than I can even remember. I’ve had surgeries on every part of my body except for my head and feet. Last year when my last biopsy came back with a diagnosis of cancer, I asked to use a chemo cream which I had used a few years before and the doctor prescribed it. After I’d used it for about ten days I asked if I could put it on my hands and was given the ok to do that, so I thought to myself if I can put it on my hands why not put it on my arms, so I did. No way to stress what a bad decision that was, after a couple of days I started to have an allergic reaction to the cream, my face swelled up to the point that one eye was swollen shut and I could barely see out of the other one as it would just open a slit, I probably had 600 red spots on the top of my arms and hands. The itch was non stop, called the doctor, he prescribed a “calming” cream, within 24 hours I was having my second allergic reaction, this time on my legs and the underside of my arms, and I felt like I was starting to go into anaphylactic shock. Friend finally insisted on taking me to an ER, the doctor there confirmed that I was having a second allergic reaction, she gave me an injection of cortisone which helped with the itching and a prescription of antibiotics. I have never in my life had a tan, I never just naturally gotten one shade darker even, but what I did have were blustering sunburns, when we went to visit my grandparents I played in the creek next to their home and although I cried myself to sleep because of the pain, I went right back the next day and played in the creek There were no sunscreens way back then, and there were no ointments that would take the pain away. So the reason for this long post is to tell y’all that damage to your skin may not rear its ugly head for 20+ years, but believe me, pale skin is much preferred over two scars on my cheek and a dime sized hole in my nose, plus several scars on my back, the largest being the one from surgery to remove melanoma. Maybe you won’t get skin cancer, but if I had it to do over I’d try to live like getting skin cancer was a possibility. My Dad died from skin cancer, and lots of other people have too. Just be careful.

Just curious if you get tested for your vitamin D levels" Do you supplement with D and K2-7? I stayed out of the sun for ten years and started having health issues. Lucky for me I came upon a health book talking about Vitamin D deficiencies and all the health problems it caused. I asked a doctor to give me D test and it came back severely deficient at level 6ng. I refused the thyroid and blood pressure meds they offered and just concentrated on cleaning up my diet..no sugar or vegetable oils that cause oxidation and free radicals. And I got my D level up to 75ng. I am 70 now and my skin is great and I do not wear sunscreen. I do my best to stay away from as many chemicals in my environment as possible. When I get home after being somewhere in the summer I take some vitamin C and drink some pure water. do think everyone should be aware of their skin and any changes happening on it. And getting sunburned is definitely not good.

Thank you so much for covering this subject. I’m 59 & aging gracefully but recently looked at my legs & was mortified when I saw what looked like crepe paper. I’ve always moisturized & I drink 1 gal of water daily so I was surprised. I truly thought the dehydration I suffer due to diabetes was the cause & it could very well be. I started applying Vaseline to my legs, feet, & arms before I go to sleep. While it has helped my skin look more supple I knew I was missing something. Growing up my mother taught me early on to take care of my face with cleansing products, moisturizer & eye cream/gel but body care products were really not thought about in regard to treating all skin & protecting like we do the face. I am happy to know about these products & will incorporate them asap to resolve the crepe skin I’ve developed. Love you guys & the education you provide. ❤

It is so true!! All you young people out there, listen when they say protect using sunscreen and cover up, if you want to look young when you are old. I live in Florida and it's really hot. I worked outdoors for 20 + years. I would sweat the sunscreen off in minutes, so I wouldn't be as protected. I also would wear tank tops and shorts, because otherwise, I would've died of heat stroke. I'm 46, and the difference between my skin that was protected and not is like night and day. You don't notice when you are young, because you don't see the changes until you are older. My arms and chest especially are tan, but also tons of freckles, sunspots, crepy skin, whereas my stomach, back, and buttocks are white, but completely healthy feeling and looking. Young people think, "Well a tan matters now while I'm young", but you WILL regret it when you are older, and there's nothing you can do about it. Everything you do to your body, sun, drugs, alcohol, and food DOES affect you when you get older. Just because you can't see it now, doesn't change the fact the damage is being done.

CeramedX Body Lotion, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream & Puriya's Mother of all Creams are exellent products as well for dry aging skin. The first 2 have ceramides and niacinimides. At age 71, I have battled scaling skin on my face, cracked skin on my heels, as well as keratosis on my arms and fish scales on my thighs all of which these products have cured or greatly reduced. Products that provide skin barrier effects seem to be the best. And other than the CeraVe everyday, the others I only need to use once a week - saving LOTS of money. If your dry skin is severe I would suggest starting with Puriya everyday for a couple of weeks. And of course, fix your diet & hydrate - sugar is a killer!

As an infant, I was malnourished and then gained quickly with proper care, causing stretch marks that I have always had around my shoulders, backs of my arms, butt and upper thigh. I just recently lost weight (slowly over a year) and have noticed that those are the only areas that are really a problem, although retinols are helping.

I am not a derm, but I have been (to my very great surprise) getting tremendous help from a newer product that Gold Bond has put out that is a full body retinol/age renewing cream. It's helped a lot with stretch marks on my hips, crepiness on my arms, hyperpigmentation on my upper chest, and even with some keratosis pilaris on the back of my thighs. It's dirt cheap too, and absolutely worth giving it a try. FYI I originally only bought it for the crepey skin.

Even when I did, it was only on those scorching days at the beach (and I live in MN so not so many of those!). This is a great video and I appreciate you guys addressing skin care issues. I turned 61 this year and have been neglecting things that I used to do routinely since being a teenager and this (for about 6 year) may probably not been the right time to stop doing things that had kept my body tone and skin cellulite and wrinkle free. I grew up using: lave pumice stone for knees, elbows, feet, scrub brush was from top of feet to upper neck front and back, and used baby oil that change into bathing oils while body still damp thick lotions (being black ashy was not accepted). Sunscreen was not something that might have existed in the late 60s thru early 80s. Thanks for sharing and blessings to you and all in the days to come.

After spending a lot of money to repair my skin after it seemingly changed overnight, I realized I was in perimenopause. Reduced estrogen was the culprit for my crepey skin and estrogen worked WONDERS. However, now I at least feel I have a stellar, adult skin and hair routine (alcohol, perfume, dye-free and a solid sunscreen, moisturizer, retinoid and cleansing ritual). My healthy skin has returned, I stopped losing my hair, I'm sleeping much better and losing a little weight to boot. I ADORE you both. I am so surprised that 15 minutes in, I still haven’t heard you discuss importance of drinking water. I believe, from a nurse standpoint, that a lot of crepey skin, early wrinkling, comes not only from sun exposure and lack of sunscreen use, poor skin care, but most importantly hydration and nutrition. Most people do not drink adequate amount of water each day. And personally, I can be really quite horrible when it comes to my water intake. Not everybody needs ‘eight classes a day” advice we’ve all heard for years lol. A good rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces, Over the course of the day. Especially during exercise or sun exposure. Keep in mind things that dehydrate such as coffee. And be mindful nutritionally, a lot of produce contains water as well. 🥰 this video was tons of help, so grateful to have stumbled across your channel, you guys are so insightful. I would absolutely love to work in a dermatology clinic. I am a nurse and I work in skilled nursing, previously worked in MedSurg. I also plan on using toner on my body, especially when I'm late for work or tired, like rice water, it would cheap but super fresh and effecient. I can't wait to try it. Edit : Doctorly have another video about skin care body products which was made a couple of weeks ago.
