Hi and thanks for making this video. I have a question regarding the initial application of color paint. How long is the very first application of paint allowed to cure before the first wet sanding? Thanks again!!
@9987molly2 жыл бұрын
I will defo try this with some paint chips I have. Would you recommend wet sanding a t-cut magic pen touch up after application?
@hknng3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, I guess this procedure can be done without taking off the panel from car?
@JordanWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've done panels on the car. Of course flat panels are easier but either way will work. You may need a few more applications of clear to make sure the scratch is completely filled
@tonyg-2jz823 жыл бұрын
Ya absolutely. It's not as intense as having to use spray to fix it which also doesn't require removing whatever panel, but makes it easier rather then having to mask up every surrounding area then hope you can blend it in right.

Has anyone tried the tip for removing rust? Is it sturdy enough for that or should I use something else?

how did you find what exact color you used for your car, did you get just a black color, so if i got a gray car, just get a gray color??
@chriskvikstad498011 ай бұрын
Inside your driver's side door there should be a paint color code for your car. It is probably on the same sticker where your recommended tire pressures are printed. Use that color code along with your car's make, year, and model when you are looking for paint.

I bought a genuine mazda touch up paint (45P sonic silver metallic). It looks ok but stands out when I fill in a chip or scratch. I wet sand it with 2500 and then it turns to solid gray (no sign of metallic). I add a clear coat and it still just looks solid gray. I polish it with compound and the sanding scratches are gone, the scratch feels smooth to the touch but it's still a dark gray with no metallic. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

How long do you polish for? I’m at the polish step, but I cant get that matte look to go away now😩
@JordanWorkshop6 ай бұрын
It shouldn't take long. What type polishing compound are you using? Did you use rubbing compound or a high grit wet sand paper first?
@JennyEsterly6 ай бұрын
I believe I didn’t use a compound😢 I think this is where I messed up. I went straight to Meguairs Scratch X Polish after using 3000 wet sand paper

How long did you let the paint sit? And was it just water you let the sandpaper sit in? it looks soapy
@JordanWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
I let it set about 30 minutes between clear coats then 4 hours before sanding smooth. Just water for soaking the sandpaper but yeah, my bucket may have still been a little soapy
@premiermma1 Жыл бұрын
What should you use to clean out the scratch before trying to paint? Alcohol, soap and water??
@JordanWorkshop Жыл бұрын
After scratching out any rust, alcohol works well. Good luck!

i’m trying to fix a scratch on a white car and when i sanded it the sandpaper left gray marks. it’s automotive sandpaper but i don’t know if i bought the wrong brand or if i didn’t let the paint dry long enough. any idea?
@JordanWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think you're right. It sounds like the paint wasn't dry enough. Also, the sand paper should say "wet or dry" so you can use it with plenty of water without problems.

And when polish wears off?
@JordanWorkshop Жыл бұрын
It's not like wax. Polish actually smooths the top coat. It's like liquid sandpaper. There's nothing to wear off.

Can i also use spray paint? Instead of brush paint..?
@JordanWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I try to keep the paint just in the scratch. That way the new paint won't be noticed if it isn't a perfect match. if you're sanding through the spray coat before filling with clear though, it should work fine.

So u use a clear coat for deep scratches from Dupicolors yet stay away from colors for best results. Equally important $17 dollars and sand it down and rubber compound ....

How can I use this overall method with medium sized chip rocks about the size of a pencil eraser but deep and rusted. I dislke the way people are fixing them with chip fix kits when they are that deep because its nowhere near level, and like you commented below, using bondo or any filler requires that you sand well into the paint around it causing you to use spray paint to paint a much larger area so risk becomes larger. What would you suggest for deep chips that went through the primer to metal? Can I just use multiple coats of paint?
@LordLoMR23 жыл бұрын
Yes sand the scratch then just apply the paint directly and layer it up. Works great.
@highr6ller4 жыл бұрын
Should I use bondo?
@JordanWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I don't like to use bondo to fill scratches unless I plan to repaint the whole panel. If you level the scratch with bondo, there's a good chance you'll cut into it when sanding. That's why I put down a thin layer of paint and fill with clear.
@highr6ller4 жыл бұрын
Thank you
@carrieray14784 жыл бұрын
Would 600 grit work?
@JordanWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
I think it would be more likely to cut through your clear coat and you'd still need to use finer grits to get rid of scratches from the 600 grit.
@ericgrajeda26712 жыл бұрын
I guess you did 2 coats and 3 if needed on deep scratches wow ...
