Great video...I replaced my fuse but it blew again immediately. Then I found your video and checked my diodes and had 2 that are bad. Now to find the part number for them...

Very good video! If u have a thermal camera, you can check the board while it’s charging/not charging and see, you can see also if there is anything overheating. Thx again

Thanks for a good troubleshooting video. In my case (DE9130) with no battery plugged in, when I plugged the charger into the mains, the light flashed once, so probably not a fuse problem. Nothing happened though when I plugged in either battery. Bizarrely I have managed to get it working by turning the charger and battery over and banging/tapping on the charger base. It magically started flashing, so I have left it upside down to finish charging. So far so good!

i would suspect that if the battery is good and is fully inserting into the charger that either you have a bad solder joint on the pcb or the prongs that the battery plugs into on the pcb are bent open slightly and not making good contact.

Thanks for making this video ...having a similar issue with a brand new dewalt knock off DC9310 charger that is giving me a red fast blinking light no matter what battery i put in , so i have a suspicion that its an open circuit somewhere not allowing the battery to charge but the charger is seeing the battery connected , Hopefully i can trace down the open circuit or bad diode and just replace it . Thanks for making this video ..it gives me a direction / starting point .

The diodes are part of a circuit called a bridge rectifier that charges AC to Dc

I have two identical batteries and a DW9118 charger. It charges one battery to over 13.54v and the other to around 10.5v. The charger says 7.2v to 14.4v on it. It’s it automatically detecting the number of cells in the battery pack or something? I believe that both battery packs, because they’re identical, should be charging to the same voltage.

I have the DC9310 charger, why when I connect it to AC 110 V and check the charger output voltage with a multimeter (without battery inserted) and it gives 0.0 V? Why doesn't it indicate 18V or 20V? But when connecting the batteries they reach up to 22V until the charge is complete (LED light stable) Thank you

If the charger is working fine it is most likely waiting for a voltage input from the battery before it is outputting any power. Some chargers will not output anything until they see a voltage input which tells the charger a battery is inserted. This is also why a battery discharged near 0 volts must be boosted with another battery before it will charge.

I have the same model charger. When I check the voltage on the terminals where you insert the battery I get 53V. Is this normal for charging batteries that are only 18V? Now my batteries are not able to hold a charge for more than a minute.

open circuit voltage is not a good indication, what is important is the voltage across the terminals when the battery is plugged in which could be as much as 23 volts depending on the battery and charger as charging voltage is much higher than battery nominal voltage. Fully charged battery should measure open circuit voltage of about 20 volts right off the charger depending on battery age and condition. (about 1.3 to 1.4 volts per cell) right off charger. If its much lower, you could have a bad cell in the pack which is very common for these.

@kwacz Thank you for clearing up my misconception. Your explanation was clear and on point.
