Nice one. You just saved me £300! The 'plumber' came and took a quick look at it, told me he'd have to replace the entire tap, 2 hours labour plus parts, couldn't do it for over a week. SO I took a deep breath and gave it a go! I happened to have a tiny hex allen key and a 17 mm spanner, and used lemon juice to clean instead of vinegar. Worked perfectly. Many, many thanks!

The same issue right now.. the plumber didn't attempt to change the valves even though I already have them ready to fit.. I had a go and changed the cold side in 5 minutes....but the hot grommet screw on the hot side has been rounded off by someone who fitted the tap... so looks like I wont have any choice but spend £300+

Saw this video a long time back and saved it. Really glad I did. I have a Franke Atessa so although slightly different the principles are the same. I spent more time trying to align the tap straight and grub screw in a very awkward position. Got there in the end - female senior citizen who likes to be independent, feeling pretty smug right now, thank you for this video, it was a great help! 😊

Nobody has commented for a while but this is still helping! I struggled to get the cartridge out. It has a 17mm nut rather than the 14mm you showed, and was absolutely solid. The cartridge does not protrude from the casing like yours, so had to get a socket on it, and the tip interfered with the drive for the socket, so had to be careful. However, having sprayed WD40 and leaving it for a while, it did come. When it came out the plastic inserts and seal were all left in the tap casing, so look carefully when doing it. However cleaned them all up, put in vinegar and reset and refitted and now all good. Thanks!

Hello,just discovered a leaking mixer tap and thanks to your tutorial think I can tackle this job. Thinking it might be a washer replacement but only washer I saw was the blue ring,like you said if that is deteriorated then find a replacement, but firstly do as you have done and see if that works. Thanks again for your video,before it's saves people hundreds of pounds according to the other comments.

Saturday 11 May 2024 I have just managed to stop the leak in my tap following your instructions. Being a woman unscrew the cartridge was the difficult bit as I need it a bit of muscle strength but I managed at the end . Only vinegar worked for me when cleaning the cartridge bits a pieces . Again I was surprised as I could not see and scale accumulated in the cartridge . BIG THANK YOU . Great video Oh I forgot to mention also when I changed the cartridge I learned that I could change the direction of the close and open of the tap lever . Before the lever closing position was forward towards the kitchen sink , now the lever is backwards toward the wall , leaving me more room / space on the sink . I AM SO HAPPY !!!

Amazing, thank you so much! Like other stories, a plumber took one look and said we should go back to the supplier - which would be just pain and hoops. For me it was that blue washer on the end of the cartridge not sitting flush, but was skewed and creating a gap. I reseated it, screwed the cartridge back in, and the drip is sorted!

Very many thanks. You've saved me a big bill from the plumber! Our FRANKE Zurich wasn't dripping but it was making one hell of a racket whenever the washing machine was in use or we used our outside tap. It sounded very much like an air horn going off, it was that loud. I'm guessing it was some weird sympathetic vibration thing going on. Anyways, I followed your guidance, dismantled the cold tap & dunked the internal gubbins in vinegar & bicarb. Put it back together & perfect silence. Bliss!

Thanks really helpful. Just a couple of points. I suggest always putting the plug in the sink before removing the grub screw, in case it falls off the screwdriver as you remove it and vanishes down the plughole! Also worth pointing out that not all Franke taps use the T8 screw, mine needs a hexagonal Allen key, which was supplied with the spare cylinder (which now I may be able to return to the shop thanks to your video!).

Thanks for this. One problem I came across was that my tap had no grub screws, just the central brass screw. The tap handles were very firmly stuck but your video gave me the confidence to use force, in the right direction. It was just a case of getting the splines to let go. I took out the central screw from each side and squirted WD40 very carefully down the holes. A few judicious taps with a nylon-tipped hammer and the taps came off!

After watching this and realising there are no washers but the cause of the drip was dirt or debris between the plates I tried a quick fix. I violently threw the tap on and off quite a few times in order to dislodge anything. This worked perfectly and now the tap does not drip. So worth trying first 😂 I also determined it was the hot side before trying this.

Bicarb and white vinegar when mixed neutralise each other and create water. The only action you will get is the fizz which by its action may remove any loose bits but chemically it won’t dissolve limescale. Just use white vinegar or lemon juice. Apart from that excellent video 👍😁

Have a very similar type to this but cannot get the cold side to come out had a big spanner on it and it does not look as though it comes out, so trying to access the hot tap side and the small allan screw is very tight only turns half a turn easily. My tap has a chrome cover next to the lever exposing the main cartridge body. waiting on a plumber to quote and no doubt he will charge for the whole cartridge. live in a hard water area although we have a water softener so expect evidence of limescale if I manage to strip it. but this was a very good video depending on the quote i may be coming back to this. Spare cartridges range from £5 to £15 at screwfix depending on diameter and length of the splined shaft for the handle

Exactly my thoughts. I couldn't find a video on that. I have no safety taps under the sinks. If I was meant to fix the hot water tap, I would have to turn the mains off and then drain the hot water tank... I have no idea what would happen to the central heating as it seems to be wired onto the same system -- for all I can tell looking at the absolute mess of wires and pipes around the tank. British houses are so out of date with these cowboy dodgy botch jobs for water and electrics like it's still 1920.

You isolate them individually under the sink and see which one stops the drips
@woodlander_0
@woodlander_0 3 жыл бұрын
@@stevenhuffnagel If you don't have isolator valves for the taps, when you want to replace a hot water valve, there should be a stop cock on the cold feed that comes from the loft cold tank. Once you stop cold water from entering the hot tank, turn on the hot tap you want to change and just drain some of the water out until a vacuum in the hot tank stops more water from coming down the pipe. If it's not a good stop cock and there's another hot tap lower than the one you're working on, turn that one on and that's the one that will drip!

Thanks for the helpful video, but it didn't work for me. Warm water dripping actually became worse. Cartridge looked very clean when taking out so surprised it had problems. Did try repeating the process several times. Will try to order a replacement part - perhaps mine is damaged somehow? Did try cold water one first and that cartridge did seem to have scaliness and a little dirt from water coming out. Putting it back together after cleaning I had no drips, so surprised that the one in better condition and easier to fix failed. Ps for my (different) Franke tap, the grub screw was so far in it looked like an empty screw hole - thanks for the heads up on the screw type and size.
