After waiting, long after the appointment time, he didn't turn up so I, using your video, had a go myself. Bingo! Total success! You absolute legend! This is the first time I’ve had to do a repair on this type of tap, and I ran into all the same problems you did. If you hadn’t had the same problems and persevered with them and showed me that the tap would eventually separate with enough WD-40 I would not have believed it and given up. The outer cover and the locking ring refused together on my tap too, so thank you for showing how to separate them - even that worked perfectly! As others have said, your instructional videos are realistic, grub screws are seized, handles don’t just slide off the square shaft, as they do on a new tap, decorative collars just don’t spin off by hand, securing nuts are stuck in place by limescale. Advice is then given about how to overcome these difficulties. The result, another great video!

I never knew there were so many types of mixer tap before ours started leaking. Having discovered the exact same tap in the online store (here in France) I knew it needed a new cartridge and all that was left to do was to find out how to disassemble the damned thing in order to remove the cartridge. It was at this point that a quick Google search and your video came to the rescue. At this point, I neither have the new cartridge nor have I attempted the job, but at least (thanks to your excellent video tutorial) I now know exactly what to do and how to do it well. And to think, the missus was talking about buying a new tap!!! A MASSIVE thumbs up, your time and effort in putting this together is very much appreciated.

Great video. One word of warning from my experience. If you’re NOT replacing the cartridge but perhaps you want to simply replace the handle on the tap, avoid spraying WD40 around the top of the cartridge. I did this on two taps and the WD40 (once the new one was fitted) made the handle stiff and squeaky and I had to replace two perfectly working cartridges. I know you would expect WD40 to lubricate but it seemed to have the opposite effect on moving plastic parts.

A sincere big thank you for this demo. I was weened on olde worlde taps and rubber washers, have a good understanding of those but not a clue where to start with these ceramics. I was already studying Screwfix to go the easy way, just buy a new tap. But even that wasn’t going to be easy, pipes off, basin out. This tap (much like your demo) is 8 years old, had very little use and in a softened water house, had the smallest of leaks from around the bezel. Followed your instructions, came apart easily, apart from chrome bezel had oxidised to brass nut from the leak. Everything else looked immaculate so greased up the threads and reassembled. Job done! Can only think that the cartridge wasn’t tightened down quite enough at manufacture. So thanks to you I am a little wiser and managed a quick and free fix. Cheers!

As I said in my previous comment, this video was really useful. There were a couple of tiny differences between my tap and the one in the video: under the hot/cold tap, there was no plastic insert, you just went straight to the grub screw, and the shroud was plastic and clip-on rather than metal and screw-on. Also, the first cartridge I bought was the correct diameter (35mm in my case) but not the correct height. I should have listened to my wife, and bought the recommended cartridge from the tap manufacturer.

I followed your advice to remove the cap by spraying it with the loosening lubricant. but couldn't remove it still. Then I put the two thick rubber bands just below the cap and I got a good grip and removed the cap right away.

Excellent video. I'm about to do my Zucchetti basin tap - it looks identical to yours. The worst thing is the cartridge cost me $97.71 (AUD). Tempted to buy a brand new mixer tap for $32.

Nicely done thank you 👍 My Grohe has a grub screw that needs a security hex bit to remove it, cannot take the top handle off its completely stuck argh! Isn't the '46850000' cartridge either, hate Grohe so much 🤔

Blimey, I've just bought a Grohe tap a few days back! I always believe them to be a superior brand!

@@ultimatehandyman They use a thin electro plate finish as well, mixer cartridge on Amazon was £45, Grohe lists it as £120, sticking to a simpler design in future 👍 They also do 'IR' taps as well, for extra complexity 😨

Miraculously didn't need a shroud wrench but managed to break off the top of the cartridge when removing the tap. I managed to remove it from the tap lever afterwards quite easily. WD 40 is a life saver.

Nice one. I ordered the part, and it went like a dream. Nothing seized for me. The old one had a split in it. I did use some lubricant on all threads before reinstalling. Cheers!

Excellent video, I didn't have a strap wrench but found wrapping some strong sellotape around the shroud with a long strand loose to pull with made for a great alternative!

Thank you for the video! I am having great difficulty removing the brass nut, unlike it happened in your occasion. I think I should block the nut underneath but I am afraid of breaking something xD

Hello, so I have a handle that look very identical to the one in this video, but it’s a handle for the shower. The handle completely broke due to corrosion. The handle came off along with the shroud. The inner part of the shroud is stuck and I can’t unscrew it. What tool do I need to get to take the inner part of the shroud? Also what is the model of the handle and cartridge?

Fantastic video. Thanks. The only thing I was waiting for was a close of view of this tool I had never heard of before. The X Key! Then before the video finished I had worked out your accent enough to realise that you had mentioned a Hex Key.

Thank you for this! I had no idea about removing the shroud. I can do just about anything around the house, but I'm definitely no plumber. I stared at my faucet for far too long before watching your video and seeing that it was removable. YTM

A well made video for sure. My problem was that neither my tap nor the cartridge had any distinguishing marks and consequently my local plumbing supplies shop was unable to supply a replacement cartridge. I am weighing up whether to risk ordering one from choosing the nearest match from the EBay adverts or cutting my losses and buying a whole new tap. Incidentally, those advertised come in 25mm, 35mm and 40mm sizes but nowhere can I find what measurement that is. From the drawings online it seemed it referred to length but the guy at the plumbing shop told me it appeared to be the diameter.

The slogan manufacturers of these things seem to work to is "Designed For Difficulty". It should not be this hard to replace a part that is obviously meant to be replaced. You should not need a whole box full of tools to do a "simple" job like this. So thanks for a very practical video, including solving all the snags along the way.
