How to fix Error Code Fault Code E11 on a Hoover WDYN 9666PG VOH W964 Washing Machine

Thank you ever so much! Our almost identical washing machine, Hoover 9646 plus the letters, suddenly stopped showing the E11 code today. My wife googled and quickly found your video, and oh yes: One of the tiny cables to the thermostat had snapped, and the other was about to. Did the re-wiring, soldering etc. according to your instructions, and now the machine works like a charm again. We're currently on a tight budget, so not having to pay for a repairman coming over was a true relief for us. Thank you once again!

The 'capacitor' you point to at the beginning is the RF filter. Great video.

Absolutely brilliant. Took off the top cover and the 2 wires had snapped from the spades on the thermo just as you stated. Saved me a fortune. Many Thanks John

Thank you very much from Barcelona !!!! Moltes mercès des de Barcelona!!! We have a VOH W964 Otsein- Hoover, older than this one, but it lokked quite similar inside, and the clue about the thermostat was definitive!! It is the same problem of progammed obsolescence !!! Cheers / Salutacions !!

Brilliant - Thank you very much - just your throw away comment that pointed out the existence of the cut out switches on the dryer heat was invaluable. Shame the instructions with the dryer don't include such basic information! Probably saved £100 in central London call out charges and kept a tennant happy! Cheers!

+Dai Richards keep in mind though if they have tripped it will because the airflow across the heating element is not good enough. the blower fan may be clogged with dust. if theres air filters in it make sure to tell your tenant to keep them clean!

Hi Jason, I did fix it sorry for not coming back to you all, but problem with dryer remained where the cut out switch still engaged and we had to keep resetting it so became a bit of a pain. Since purchased a new washer dryer anyway but thanks again john help was much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing! This just happened to my machine (the same model as yours), and it was the second time. The first time I had an engineer come and fix it, but perhaps I'll do the job myself this time. I don't think the guy fixed it as permanently as you did!

I'm about to get this washer as an insurance replacement. It doesn't inspire me with confidence because we've had endless E11 problems with Hoover washers before, I can't believe they are still making them with this design flaw.

+johndragonman I had the same error, same model. I just followed your instructions and indeed the wires had snapped off, right on the edge of the white clip (obviously a stress point). I don't have a soldering iron, so I took the white clip apart with a needle & watchmakers screwdriver and removed the broken bits of wire. I then bared the eixsting wires, reinserted them into the clip and reassembled, ensuring the wires were as loose as possible without being able to catch anything. Job done. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems. Thanks!!

Thank you soooo much! My Hoover washer/dryer is a different model but inside they look the same. I also had a problem with a wire snapping off at the thermostat. I could post pics but don't know how. Tomorrow I'm going to a Candy/Hoover service shop to hopefully buy the jack that goes into the thermostat (can't find it online anywhere).

Hi John thanks for posting the video, I got the same error code but the wire has snapped off at the thermosat. So I don't have two parts of a wire to solder but instead need to put the wire back into the thermostat. Is that possible or do I need to swap the thermosat out?

hmm, i think you would have to swap the thermostat out. they may be available on ebay..

if its the same fault like what i had i do believe that if you just solder the wires back together it will fix the issue.. if the wires have snapped in a place where they cant be soldered then you may have to get a replacement thermostat/sensor. if you take the thing off there should be a number on it. if you were to stick that in on ebay i bet you would find one for sale :D hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply I didn't mention but wires have come out of the other end unlike yours, I also need to get a hex key set to get the thermo off first. Not sure you can solder onto plastic? But will have a part no once it's off hopefully won't cost too much.

Managed to track down the part on the hoover website, but problem is the plastic insert that goes into the dryer probe thermostat, there's no way of getting the wires attached..? Amy ideas even if I get the new part it would seem im still stuck with the same problem, that is of course there's a way to sort it.

My mom's been using an old sweat sock on our machine, and letting the machine stand w/ the door open for a couple hours; but it still develops a smell (mould) really easily if the door is shut and water condenses. MFG says this is normal in their retailer's manual, and suggests diluted bleach to kill the smell. (non-sequitor:) I was going to speculate that the moisture problem is from the town being in a lake drained by German prisoners/regfugees; but did my research and found out that this town was infact built in a forest by refugees aided by German *mercanaries* after the American Revolution. Subsequent clear cutting transformed this area in to a sandy desert that flash-flooded when the river was nolonger constrained by a forest. Won't name my city in a comment to avoid internet stalkers, but I spent a couple an hours reading the history of this city online. Suddenly the absurd number of tourists we get makes sense, pity the town doesn't really advertise it's heritage to residents; but I imagine any place with it's own Wikipedia articles would be just as interesting to think about.

its a it like a laptop screen, its just held together with plastic tags. if you force a flat blade into the crack in the plastics it should come open. just dont pry a screw driver on the LCD screen its self, if you crack that the monitor is toast :(

Cheers, I had a look and sadly no obvious breaks or disconnects so either the thermostat really has gone or the break isn't complete only the wore under the insulation somewhere.

Had the same problem with error 11 on hoovers drying system but didnt see any broken wires so just pushed the buttons u can see at the video 03:43 and now it works perfectly again :D No idea what those buttons even are

hmm if the wires have snapped flush with the plastic then repair would be hard to do. i think it would be more easy if you got hold of a new sensor and soldered the wires onto the metal tabs that it has. you could try to stick small pins into the plastic to try and make a contact with what is left of the metal tabs. then solder wires to the pins. it may work or may not.

I've tried poking metal pins in there and pretty hard to shift not for the want of trying. gilesgerry i cant see why that would not work.. be good to get a solid connection on to those prongs though. use female spade crimp connectors or you could solder the wires directly to the prongs. the heat though could damage the sensor though. crimp connectors would be the best bet! good work!

Great thanks for the advice neither the tools or knowledge but aware of what they are, may be able to bung something off someone, meanwhile wires connected may have to do as desperate with a working washing machine.
