What a practical wonderful solution - thanks! I made a variation of your door-opening hack: I used a hinged container (the kind which bakeries sell loaf-cakes in). I cut two PET-plastic strips off the top, approx. 5.5" long by 1.25" width. Taped one strip onto the other using double-sided tape. That way the strip is stronger. You can also add more strips for reinforcement. Then I bent the strip at approx. the halfway mark. Note that the strip gets the door opened, though each time i lifted it to unlatch the door, i heard a whirring sound as if the microwave is turning on (even though i avoided touching the electronic panel).
