How to fix Mercedes C or E-Class C204 C207 W205 W212 parking brake

Fix your parking foot brake that wont 'ratchet' on a Mercedes W212 / W207 / C207 / A207.​
If the issue persists you will need to lubricate the wire inside the release/pull cable to prevent it sticking and causing the mechanism to go "slack".

Just sorted my e220, you absolute legend. Main dealer had quoted the previous owner 350 euros to replace handbrake assembly!

Perfect!!! Solved the problem with ten minutes of work. On a RHD W204, once you remove the three T20 screws and have pulled the panel out towards the driver's seat, you can then release the OBD connector by sliding back the catch and pushing the connector out from the OBD connector external side (car interior side). You don't need to disconnect the hood release as the under-side panel can be moved out of the way sufficiently with the hood release still attached to allow access to the parking brake release tang repositioning that's highlighted in this video.

Same fix on W204 C class also. Thank you so much for posting. Has saved me a £400 trip to MB. Had a sticky pedal release for ages where the foot brake pedal wouldn't come up fully to turn the warning light off and had to hook foot behind it to pull it up. Then now it wouldn't latch and stay down and the hand release loose. Easy fix. Top marks for getting phone right in giving clear view of such an awkward place to see! Many many thanks!

After watching this video, I went into the car and literally used my finger to lift and pull the "Pedal retaining clip" and with slight push it fall into its place. I realy hope this is only it !! ... I was stupid enough to press my P-brake during -15°C and something happened since the wire on the release handle jumped out and the handle itself. Now the P-brake wont engage on +7°C (i only did the 3 clicks with the hand) i mounted back the wire in to the release handle and it just stays pulled out. There is slight resistance on the wire so i guess it did not detach or jump off where it sits.

Daves Discoveries if you’re referring to the break shoes, I changed the break discs and handbrake shoes on both rear tyres and they all seem to be working okay

Daves Discoveries the cable has come out of the mechanism somewhere or snapped so when I depress the pedal it has no effect on the spreaders
