How To Fix No Power Vizio P65-E1

Excellent video and very professional work. I figured i wanted to buy another new main board for my Vizio P65 so decided to try reflowing my board at home and order a new replacement afterwards seeing it would take time to arrive. I put the reflowed board back in and everything is working well. Afterwards when i was searching for a new mainboard i found that new boards are very hard to come by, but because it is working now i figure might as well wait and if it breaks down again i can send in for a professional repair at your shop. Reflows at home are said to last anywhere from a day to 5 years and anything in-between, even a professional repair service such as yours offer max 1 year warranty.

Hello Ballroomblitz255, I think some of the information you have is perhaps not exactly good information, specifically "Reflows at home are said to last anywhere from a day to 5 years" Are 99% of reflows at home lasting 1 day and 1% lasting 5 years? Are 99% lasting 5 years with only 1% lasting 1 day? Is the TV used every day multiple times a day or is it the guest room tv used twice a year? How was the data collected, which model TVs were used for this data? These simple questions make it obvious that the sentence "Reflows at home are said to last anywhere from a day to 5 years" really doesn't in fact mean anything. The information below is based on conversations I have had with my customers aka people that have attempted this and either failed immediately meaning 0 day of functionality post repair or less than 6 months. Not people with long term success of course. #1 Most people that try reflows at home cause irreparable damage to the mainboard. #2 Most people that don't ruin their boards don't actually reflow the board but instead just heat it up thinking they are reflowing it but don't actual reach the solders melting point. Now this heating up of the board without actually reflowing it can allow the mainboard to work but for how long, your guess is as good as mine. We have plenty of people that send in their boards after reflowing it themselves and it only worked for a few days, a few weeks or a few months. We don't typically see anyone send in their mainboard telling us they had more than 6 months of success. What I can tell you is that we do it professionally in a highly regulated environment with over 10,000 successful reflow repairs under our belt. We offer the full 1 year warranty to match most manufacturer warranty and also we know 99% of our repairs will outlast that time period by a significant amount. Again we can't know for sure as not every customer reports back to us. I can't give you guarantees about how your reflow will work but I can tell you our reflows will outlast any home reflow by a significant margin with out the high risk of damaging it permanently.

@@NicksTVRepair My comment on length is might last is not a testimonial but rather the reality that it is not a professional method to get a repair and that you really do take a chance on how long you may get time wise. The better solution is to use a repair shop with specified approved equipment built to the task, backed by a 1 year warrantee to back up the results. I find myself in a situation where my TV is working well for 6 days now, running 12 hour per day. I would like to send in for a thorough professional repair however as it is working i am stuck between sending in a working board or waiting for a failure and dealing with the issue then. Even though i do have a backup 55 inch set to make use of, i absolutely love the picture on the 65 inch and do not long for being without it in operation for multiple weeks with mail delivery. I would also prefer to get a NEW board, however do not think that is possible now seeing I do not see them making new parts from Vizio. Cheers.

Correct new boards aren't available anymore. I would say run your TV and see how long it works for. In my experience it's not as much how many hours it runs but how many thermal cycles it's run through. So If you turn it on and run it for 2h turn it off for 1h turn it back on for 2h and back off you have gone through 2 thermal cycles. This will have a larger overall negative effect than having the TV turned on for 12 hours and then off because that is only 1 thermal cycle. The thermal cycles are what cause the cracks in the solder joints between the processor and PCB. If you have this exact same model as shown in the video, indeed this is a really good TV with really outstanding picture quality. It's one of my favorite Vizio TV sets by far.

Nice! The E65-E1 I haven't worked on much, but if I recall it had done mainboard repairs similar to this in the past or LED strip replacements.

Yes it does! They are different models but the mainboards are almost identical and thus so are the failures and repairs.

The most common fault with most of the P series vizio sets is the mainboard. That being said I just fixed a power supply for a P75-E1 yesterday so power supply faults can happen, they are however much more rare. Hi Nick, GREAT job, i was just wondering, the video did not demonstrate a " re-balling of the processors " was that done? or is the re-flow procedure you've done more than adequate. We didn't do a reball because we have a high end rework machine that is able to do a very accurate and consistent job at properly reflowing these boards. If you don't have this machine or better then I may recommend a reball as reflowing it with a bottom heater and a hot air gun will not be as reliable. NOT ALL REFLOWS ARE EQUAL. I am not yelling when I say that haha, it is however very important to know that the reflow my tech does with our machine is not the same quality reflow as the repair services on eBay where they simply put the board in an oven. In my experience that will not provide you with a good quality reflow. If it did those eBay sellers would provide you with more than a 30 day warranty. Having the correct equipment is important, this is why we are able to provide a 1 Year warranty with our servics. We do the job with the correct equipment.

What you are describing is actually the same fault as in this video, you just happen to have a different symptom manifested from the same type of fault. The fix is to either replace the mainboard or have it fixed. If you want to have it fixed and get a 1-year warranty on the repair, you can send it to us for repair. Hello, While the fault you are describing is different than the one we have in our video, it is in fact an identical failure with simply a different symptom. The cause of the failure is still cracked solder joints between the processor chip and the PCB and thus the same repair process would apply.
