I love your videos. You have to watch them all the way through and sometimes I have to watch them more than 1 time to make sure I understand all of the steps. Keep up the good work. You are very thorough. I have a little more confidence to check the old T-con board first to see if I am getting any voltage through it. Only thing that is confusing me is the white circle on the bottom left of my TV screen. Is that caused by a bad T-con board or a LED driver board? I am hoping it is just the T-con board.

+pbarnak white circle ? unplug all the video cables from the lcd Tv and the tcon board, if it's still there it can be from backlight just lower backlight settings. burn-in happens on plasma TV.

From my experience, the 60 inch problem is almost always the T-Con board. On the 70 inch its almost always the panel. Just unplug the connectors from the t-con board one at a time. If you get half picture then you already know you got a bad panel. Time Saver! Good Video!!! Shows the Shii.. we go through and how we get better.

Your honesty in showing us that not everything works out working on these modern tvs is testament to you. I recently took on a free Panasonic tx 48cx400b that had no backlights, I bought a new power supply as the other was shot and the backlights would only flash for an instant. The screen was veri by the flashlight test. I stripped the panel and continued to test the leds but made the huge mistake of injecting dc voltage into the strips not knowing that they are controlled by current, not voltage and burnt out all the leds. I've spent another €40 on new backlights even though I have almost the price of a new tv spent but I hate putting any in the scrapheap. New panel costs will have to be reduced to prevent this massive unnecessary waste worldwide. Thanks for the knowledge 👍

Reset the ribbon to the buffer board & inspect ribbon with microscope. They sometimes will have tiny burn holes where the connector contacts the ribbon. If so trim 1/32" off the end of the ribbon & plug it back in. Or replace the buffer board to t-con ribbons. I fixed that exact vizio 70" and it worked great but I left it outside to be rained on about ten times now. Now at least the buffer boards will need to be cleaned with alcohol before powering it up. However now when your watching TV you could learn about chemtrails while growing your own bio weapons. Leave it on 24 7 until dry or discover a blitzkrieg proliferating black mold along with 16 million colors of fungus. Like playing Risk as they battle for supremacy between the layers of diffusers & polarized film. Perhaps I said to much!

Couldn't you have tested the resistance between T-com output and LCD terminals to determine a short to avoid cost of repairing the T-com board ? Not that I have any idea what that reading should be.

Hey! Just wanted to give you a heads up on a possible fix. If you disconnect the ribbons from the t-con one at a time and 1/2 the panel comes up good then connect the ribbon cable to the other side of the t-con. If it comes up then t-con is good. These large Sharp panels have buffer boards on the side of the panels too(both sides). One of the side buffer boards is bad and you will see the burnt ribbon cable on the bad one. Just carefully rip the ribbon cables from the bad side of the panel and put it back together. You should be able to expose the buffer boards fairly easily. I have a 75" sharp that i fixed this way 2 years ago in my living room. The buffers on the opposite side of the screen are strong enough to power the panel.

I'm a mechanic and I'm hoping I can find a parellel in how we confirm a diagnosis. I keep wondering if you could have added one more step in your diagnostics before you bought and replaced the parts. When I'm testing for a possible short in a vehicle module, I usually wind up disconnecting other components that may be pulling voltage down in a circuit. Older Chevy pickups, for example, are notorious for having shorted out oil pressure sensors. When they go bad, they pull down multiple 5V reference circuits and some people have erroneously replaced PCM's for it. Once I disconnect that pressure sensor, I get my 5V back every time. Coming back to your diagnosis on the TV, you didn't do your disconnect of the LCD connectors and test voltages until your part replacment failed. If you would have done a disconnect of those LCD connectors in your initial diagnosis, would you have gotten your 35 and 6 volts back across so many of those pins you tested? If the burnt transistor had any affect, would replacing that alone been enough to restore voltages to retest the T-con board with the LCD connectors still removed? I'd wager you could find those transistors in a Mouser catalog at a price that would be a much more affordable risk and let it be a reasonable billable item in your diagnostic fees. So whatcha think? Am I onto something, or do I need to go back to my corner and play quietly with my cars?

So, is there a follow up video on how to avoid all the expense and time you incurred by some straight up, from the get go test for a bad panel? One commenter seemed to think you could unplug connectors (which?) one at a time to see how it affected the picture. But then how's that work if there's no picture to begin with?

I like your video and the manner in which you explain in terms that the average DIY'er can understand. ... About a year ago my 47 inch Vizio LED crashed following a power surge caused by a lighting strike. I opened my Vizio unit and identified a scorched/bulging capacitor on my power supply. I ordered a replacement power supply from Shop Jimmy and installed the unit into my set. After reassembling the TV, I turned on the set which came on, but within 30 seconds I heard a crackle and the screen went dark again. I didn't reopen the set but assumed the power supply had blown a second time. Any idea what could have caused this result, I'd like to take another shot at repairing this unit but I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort. Any suggestions?

HI Paul, thank you very much for these videos; gave me the confidence to try an LED tv repair myself. I have a Vizio M50-C1, circa 2015, that has a black screen and sound. The LEDs are all working, checked that. I have voltage, but everywhere on the power supply board that is labeled for +12V, I have +19V. Also, the pin labeled 3D_ON, which I am assuming is to turn the TCON on (am I right), has 0V with the TV on; I am guessing this should be ~3V. All other control voltages are present, and 5V are 5V. Pin 1 on the ribbon cable from the logic board to the TCON has 12V with the TV on, and pin 51 has 0V. I am assuming there is a problem with the power supply board given there is no voltage on the 3D_ON pin, and 19V where there should be 12V. Does this sound right to you, and should I look at replacing the PS board? Thanks for the very informative videos!

I have a Samsung TV UN48J6200AFXZA with strange problem. When the TV is turned on, the Samsung logo comes on briefly then the screen goes dark and no picture comes up but the sound works. I looked at several of your repair videos and checked back light(which was good), then did the flashlight test and screen has even dark glow but no image. I just went and bought repair kit from shopjimmy and replaced all boards. Same result...What else could be wrong? Help please.

I have an RCA LED46C45RQ, origionally with back light but no picture. It has sound. I pressed power for like 10 seconds and then I briefly had a display that drifted off. After seeing this I thought I had a bad Tcon. I unplugged the ribbons and the voltages showed up! however now i can get half a picture if I plugg in one ribbon, but the other one kills the whole display. My question is this; does the panel go bad on just one side like that or do you think it could be the Tcon? Probably a bad panel though.

Hi. I have a 55inch samsung qled tv that comes on and works for a short while then goes to a black screen with sound, do you have any ideas as to what could be causing it. I have tried your flashlight trick but it does not seem to be the backlight. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a Vizio m701d-A3. I have removed all of the panel screws, but can not lift the back panel off because the corners are still attached to the screen. Is there a trick to opening up the back?? Thank you.

Hi. Thanks for your videos. I been watching some of your videos because I have a TV Sharp LC-46XL1E with a problem of sound and not picture. After watching this video I beleive I made a mistake. I just bought a T-con board to try to solve the problem but wtching this video I suspect I have a defective panel. I have backlights on all lamps. Start having aa few horizontal lines on the screen, I open up the back side to check al ribons to T_ com. since i found nothing a put them back together. Start it up and picture was on. Shoot down the TV and the next day I try again and my surprise was that the picture was gone. I am not a tech. MY question is how much coul it cost a new lcd pannel for that TV and how could a foun it? The T-Con is on my way and expect it to receve it in a couple of days Thank you for your videos. You been honest enough to say that you made a mistake and share it, that says a lot from you. English is not my lenguage. Sorry for the written mistake You have a new subscriber Manuel

Is there any way to fault find the LCD before connecting the tcom board ? It's great when things work but hard to take when they don't. Keep on the sunny side !

Good question. I was wondering too how to find the short through the ribbon cable too. Troubleshooting the boards is fine to find the fault, however, there is usually a reason why. I don't like throwing new components on unless its absolute that I know something else caused the issue.

Take the bezel completely off around the whole screen and check the boards on either the bottom or top depending on your tv that has ribbon cables connected. If any of these are bad then it will cause a panel defect.

Thanks for the reply. I did see an older video from Norcal who had the panel issue with the ribbon connectors.
