Washing your hair should be based on your scalp's needs. If your scalp is oily and has product buildup, it needs to be washed. According to dermatologists, washing your hair every 1-2 days is acceptable if your scalp needs it. Waiting too long between washes can lead to scalp and hair issues due to excess oil and buildup. I watch two dermatologists on KZbin, Dr. Jenny Liu and Dr. Sam Ellis, as well as trichologist Abbey Yung, and they discuss this issue in their videos.

Leave-in conditioner, and hair oil for my mids and ends. . . Those have made THEEEE biggest impact on my hair in the past couple of years! I've been following Chris's advice for about two years now. I used to have wispy ends, and would trim them off to try to have a nice, thick "hem line" on my hair....But just weeks later, they'd be wispy again. Now my thick, wavy hair is thick and wavy right to the ends. I don't have wispy, thin ends...And for the past year I've had comment after comment from people who tell me that my hair is beautiful, and asking me what products I'm using, or what I'm doing to my hair. ♥ I'm growing it out now to donate to Children with Hair Loss, and am so happy with how quickly and evenly it's growing! Thank you, Chris!

*All The Tips* 0:09 #1 Use the right product for your hair type. The wrong kind either won't absorb properly which weighs it down or won't provide enough moisture. 1:59 #2 Trinity method: good shampoo for your scalp, good conditioner for your mids, hair oil for your ends. Split ends come from years of accumulated damage, so treat hair well now to avoid damage later. 4:11 #3 Buy quality products. (Tip: find high end brands at places like Marshall's/TJ Maxx for like half the price.) 5:47 #4 Put the product only where it's supposed to go: shampoo on the roots, conditioner/leave-in conditioner on the mids, oil on the ends. Also better quality products have more moisture/oil, so conditioner on the roots will make roots greasier than cheap products. 7:27 #5 Use good quality oil that's compatible with your hair type so that it actually absorbs. It's supposed to moisturize *in* (not on) your hair. (Example: the size of the long chain fatty acids for coconut oil are too big to be absorbed by low porosity hair, but it's great for high porosity hair.) 9:29 #6 Hair oil has to be used every single day to be effective. If your ends are moisturized on day 1 but dry by day 2, then they need oil again. 10:45 #7 Flat ironing every day will create damage no matter what else you do. Do it every ~3 days and use a heat protectant product. Repeat from #1: Split ends come from years of accumulated damage, so treat hair well now to avoid damage later. 12:25 #8 Wash your hair on a schedule appropriate for it hair type: fine every 3 days, medium every 3-5 days (and I assume coarse every 5-7 days). Washing too often means it will overproduce oil to compensate. To train your scalp to slow down on oil production, wash it every X (right for you) number of days and use dry shampoo in between. (Tip: apply dry shampoo before bed on the same day that you shower, even if you showered in the evening. This way the product absorbs oil as it produces, instead of trying to sop up a bunch all at once later. Also brush it through, don't just leave it where it lands.) 14:20 #9 Heat styling (aka blow drying) keeps hair cleaner for longer. Be sure to use a heat protectant and generally avoid high heat (see #1 again). His tip: The more often you do it, the faster you'll get at it.

@isdeirinnme
@isdeirinnme 25 күн бұрын
@@zoes32flavaz No, use quality products. There are tons of options out there. Most salons partner with a major hair product company so obviously he’ll recommend those more, like Redken, but Redken isn’t the only good quality option. If he has his own products or has affiliate links, obviously he’ll link them, this is part of his income. But as he said in the video, there are tons of different products that work for all different hair types. Quality doesn’t necessarily mean expensive and one size doesn’t fit all … as he said in the video. And as I pointed out in my list, you can find high quality brands for a fraction of the cost if you know where to look, ex. Marshalls.

Good hair care advice is great and all but no matter what I use or what hair care routine I follow I'm never going to have super long thick lustrous hair! I, genetically, have fine hair so it never looks great long. I think these videos are misleading because you can follow whatever and if it's not in your genes to have long thick hair you're never gonna get it no matter what you use! Also, per trichologists, there is absolutely nothing wrong with drug store Shampoo!! Paying over $60 for shampoo and conditioner is absolutely unnecessary!!

Glad you addressed the overwashing. I'm blonde, fine hair, but tons of it. I started working from home in 2016 and just got super lazy with the hair washing. My hair, of course would get greasy after 2-3 days, but my cats didn't care. I'd wash it like once or twice a month. I can now get at least 10 days out of a styling and I don't use a lot of dry shampoo. I also grew a ton of new hair. I'm almost 50 and genetics play a big part, but people are always surprised by my hair. Its long, the blonde has dulled, but I'm getting beautiful streaks of silver.

Your hair routine is nothing short of genius! I came across your videos about a month ago because I was at a loss with my hair. It used to be oily at the roots and dry on the ends. It used to be fine but thick. Now it’s fine and not so thick. Just limp and dull. I’d wash it almost everyday thinking that would help. It didn’t. I’ve tried almost every drug store product there is over the years and nothing changed. I’d never considered using leave in condition OR oil! That would have been insane for someone with my type hair. Laughable in fact. Since finding your videos, it’s been a game changer! Only one month in and washing my hair the correct way, my hair is amazing and it getting better everyday! I couldn’t get the shampoo and conditioner on your site recommended because it was sold out at the time but I did get the Redken brand volume injection and Ouai leaving conditioner because I couldn’t find the Pureology at the time. I had only used leave in conditioner once before and it was a disaster! The oil was worse, if that’s possible but now that I know how to use them, it’s amazing! I cannot wait until I use these up to get the ones you have recently recommended. I can’t thank you enough for the knowledge you’re willing to share in a time where everyone wants to sell those secrets. No one can put a dollar sign on how something like this can make a day a little better even though I have to say it’s makes mine a whole LOT better. Thank you again!

I’ve trained my hair to wash it every three days (my hair is fine but I have a ton of it) I only shampoo the roots, and condition the mid/ends. I always use heat and heat protectant when styling, along with oil on the ends. However, I do not use oil everyday. That will be the game changer for me! Hello from northern part of Sweden😀 I have searched EVERYWHERE for answers and can't find any. I don´t think i´m the only girl with this problem so maybe it can be a video for others to🙏 I´m an industrial worker👷‍♀ so I´m not living the "normal" everyday life that often all advice is based on in the hair community. I need to have helmet all hours on site. It's high temperatures in the production ( I work with melted iron at 1500 degrees celsius) so high radiant heat and a lot of metal dust and other not so healthy dirt. If I drag my nails on the scalp after even the first day at work they get full of black muck😬 I´m working 12 hours shift 3-4 days/nights in row, so only 12 hours between each shift to shower, transport, eat and sleep 😅 So the first question is how to wear my hair to prevent damage both from the helmet but also from the heat? The next question is how I shall think about cleaning my hair. Is it better to just have a real deep-wash after the working period or to wash my hair after each workday? If someone can help i think it You 🙏 Today I only use products from your list. I even take some time every 4th month to rewatch your videos that explain how to use correctly. Just to remind myself and not go to "old habits". My hair have become so much better 🤩 Thank you so so much!🥰

You're so right! I used to sir dry my hair, and it was a mess, and I would wash it a lot more. I chilled on the straightener, but I always blow dry my hair after my shower, and it makes it look so much better and cleaner longer for sure! When I straighten it, I can usually push back my hair wash days from 3-4 to 4-5 or 6 days. I didn't know you should oil every day so thanks for that tip!!!! Using Chris' line I can go 6 days between washes but I do use another bond repair line from liason that will allow me 3-4 days between washes (depending on sweat as i sometimes walk miles at work). Idk why drug store products get so much heat cuz I use the OGX coconut milk serum and my ends haven't looked better! But I'm lucky enough to not have this problem.

And for hair oil, should it be applied everyday in the morning or after the shower (assuming a evening shower) or both? Also what about brushing hair? Should I be brushing every morning/ after a shower with a wet brush? I have curlier hair.
@aurilanise
@aurilanise Ай бұрын
Hello! I’d love to share with you my experience. My hair is wavy not curly, but it is quite thick. I typically wash my hair every 5 days. Hair oiling: I oil my hair every morning, I haven’t really noticed a crazy difference if I oil before or after a shower. Sometimes I notice my ends look extra dry so I will add oil again later in the day/afternoon and my hair looks happy again! I only do that sometimes, and if I do for my it’s only about 1x extra that wash cycle. So once you get into a good routine you’ll be able to judge when/if you need extra. Leave-In Conditioner: I usually only use it on shower days, I have found once out of the shower adding oil first, then leave in , then any blow dry heat protectant is the order that works best for my hair! I used to add the oil after my styling was complete, but I really prefer how my hair looks with it added wet. I’ve been experimenting with pushing my hair washing longer to every 7 days, due to schedule changes, and I have tried adding in leave in conditioner mid way like the 4th day (yes on my dry hair) I like it! I feel like it helps spruce my hair up and give it that extra moisture until my next wash. I definitely don’t need it when washing every 4-5 days though. My hair isn’t on the curlier side, but it has been tangling and knotting more often as I’ve been wearing scarves and thicker clothes to keep warm, I usually brush my hair 2-3x a day in the morning (before a wash), before bed and sometimes mid day. I think the most important element when considering hair brushing is understanding how to brush correctly, to prevent damage. Especially in different states (dry wet). And of course to keep your curl pattern/style. Sorry if that’s not more helpful. All in all, I 10/10 recommend all the tips the blowout professor gives! My hair looks so fabulous, and I receive comments daily on how beautiful it is. So apply these techniques, and become your own observer. What happens if you oil 2x a day? Maybe every day was too much, but oil 2x every other day? You’ll begin to find what works for you! I wish you gorgeous hair 🥰✨💕

@@reneecorley61 No, his advice will not necessarily grow your hair out. As someone who also has fine hair, I've realized that I cannot grow my hair long because it doesn't look good long. Also, your hair growth is dependent on your genetics, scalp health, how long your hair follicle holds onto your hair etc. There is so much more to it than using shampoo and conditioner. Plus, do not go 7 days without washing your hair. Scalp health is one of the most important things for hair health. Go back to your old wash schedule your hair and scalp will thank you. Plus, I also, like the other comment, advise you to follow Abbey Yung. She's a trichologist which is more knowledgeable about hair and scalp than a hair stylist

I have fine hair, but ALOT of it. I'm going to try some of the products you reccomended. My poor hair needs so much more than what I'm giving it. my hair is quite unruly because I have a little texture to my hair, live in utah, don't use heat protectant, and never put any other leave in conditioner or extra anything. My mids, where it meets my roots, tend to break off only on the top layer of my hair and it only started happening about 1.5 years ago, everyone keeps telling me it's not a moisture problem it's only a shampoo and conditioner problem but I recently went to a salon last weekend and got a deep conditioning treatment for dry hair and the lady said no product came out, indicating it is a moisture problem. I am excited to see how it goes and hope my unmanageable hair becomes manageable again❤

kind of unrelated but i have a question. i bought the pureology leave in conditioner but i had an allergic reaction to it. it’s really one tn the only leave ins you’ve talked about on your channel, so do you have another other recommendations? i have (currently) oily fine hair that i blow dry. ive only ever had a skin reaction to one other product before (these neutrogena grapefruit makeup wipes that i used for a dance recital when i was like 8) and idk if it’s related but the only 2 common ingredients i found between the two were butylene glycol & sodium hydroxide. the reaction i got was an itchy dry bumpy red rash on the sides of my neck (wherever my hair touched my skin) and the skin of my cheeks/jawline drying out a bit too. please help! :)

just noticed that another product i have used before had butylene glycol in it and i never noticed a reaction with that one… so maybe its the sodium hydroxide, or even the perfume in the product? or none of them, maybe it’s unrelated haha.

Redken Amino Mint Shampoo is one of the best professional shampoos for oily roots and dry ends. Thanks for your thoughts on ogx oils. They are worst. Tons of silicones and smell disgustingly cheap and obstrusivly like vanilla. Best hair oil for me is K18, Olaplex and Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint. PS: I wash my hair every day, only air dry or use blow dryer on a cold setting, so I am not exactly part your target group. But this video was great. Keep up the good work.

Hey there! Literally what my mom cares is if my hair is clean while I care that my hair is clean AND gorgeous looking..so can you recommend any shampoo products (and conditioner if possible) that are cheap? (My currency money is AED)

Having an oily scalp isn't necessarily because you aren't getting your scalp clean or using heavy products. Your oil production is determined by genetics so for some of us these tips make no difference. I realize that you want people to buy the products you recommend, but that OGX oil example was horrible. Obviously your employee used way too much. You're not supposed to drench your hair in it.

The last two tubes of shampoo have been your brand. - fabulous. Even my husband has been using. I also use the recommended leave in and oil(daily). Sooooo. My report. I used to have fistfuls of hair loss in shower when shampooing. No more! Negligible My hair is out of control growing - way down my back. Very shiny and btw. I am mid 70’s so it’s gray. NOW - I am in need of more info on heat styling. You mentioned that you will do more. So yes please!

I have an oily scalp and dry ends. I tried redken for a while. It made my hair worse. I switched to DOVE repair. I saved so much money and my hair looks and feels so much better. WHY? Because I have fine, thin hair. My hair sits on my scalp aka, the oil source, so of course my roots get oily quickly. Fine hair is fragile hair. The ends need conditioning, like good conditioning. Turns out, my scalp is also dry. Because of that, it over produces oil to compensate. The shampoo I use cleanses my scalp but doesn't dry it out, like redken did. I know this guy likes to push products, but product is only a small factor in why your roots are oily and your ends are dry.

I've been suffering from this exact issue for as long as I can remember. I have very long hair. It's greasy at the roots and dry and brittle at the ends. My hair has had a lot of breakage as I've aged. I trim it about every 2 months, but the ends always look dry and brittle. My mids and even my roots have breakage. I also color my hair with a color depositing conditioner on a regular basis. I found these videos very recently. I went to his website and took the hair quiz. I was surprised to find out that I had medium hair type. I always thought it bordered on fine. So I followed his trinity routine. A lot of what he taught I already knew, but there was a lot I didn't know. So, I have tried his recommendations, and I have to say that even after only a week of using his steps, my hair looks better than it has in decades. The nice thing about it is that my color hasn't been damaged at all. I still refresh weekly, and my hair looks better than ever! I look forward to a future of healthy, shiny, long hair!

@kimfromarkansas2084 I use color depositing conditioners like Punky Colours, Manic Panic, and Xmondo. I make a custom color from Xmondo and Manic Panic. I use it as a refresher once a week. My hair has been colored for 5+ years. I started out with a professional coloring, but 300 dollars every 4 to 6 weeks was a bit crazy. I use the color depositing conditioner from root to ends. I let it stay on my hair for 20 minutes, then I thoroughly rinse my hair. I use the same fingertip scrubbing action that I do when I shampoo my hair. It does a great job of removing dye from the skin. My hair has been growing out with platinum silver grays and natural brunette for the last 5 years. I don't use anything else. My hair air dries and I never blow dry or curl my hair. It leaves high and low lights beautifully throughout my hair without any added damage. Since finding these videos, I have improved my hair health and my hair care routine so much, that I can go 4 days between washes now. I'll have to invest in a good dryer based on this video. Lol

Let me ask you one silly question, if we dry our hair with a drier and then we use some other styling tool (hair straightener in my case), should we apply again heat protectant? My hair is similar to Leslie's so I pay close attention to when she is the hair model. Quick question, I use the Moroccan oil on my ends every day but would it make sense to use the Olaplex (since I have it) one day and Moroccan the next? My ends tend to dry out a bit when I curl. Followed your advice from yours vids cuz I was struggling with my afro/4c(maybe) hair tangling and breaking. I think it took me in the right direction. I tried different leave in conditioners, including the purology color fanatic one. All of them just left my hair feeling dirty. Conditioner just doesn't do anything for my hair. What does work for me is water and hair gel. If I spray my hair with water, then it reduces the breakage and tangling and allows me to comb through it easily. If i use hair gel and water then it leaves my hair feeling pretty hydrated for a couple of days, which is way more than any conditioner ever did for me. Hair gel leaves my hair feeling and looking really good for days and once it starts to wear down I can just spray some water. I think I've heard many times that water dries out your hair, but my hair is already very dry to begin with. So far spraying water on it has been helping. The wet brush is sorta fine, but I think I prefer a wide tooth comb. Still seeing how it's working out, but it looks like the wet brush makes me lose more hair.
