GREAT VIDEO... mine wasn't as bad, but needed oil... watched the other video too.... I have a Series 70 model...same stuff, wow ! thanks for the video.... as for gear case oil... see this comment left on amazon.com for Whirlpool (the actual manufacturer of the Kenmore Series 70) Gear Case Oil 350572 ... "This oil is thicker than 140w gear oil and tenacious, the consistency is almost like thick honey. This oil does not want to mix with water and was very difficult to clean out of my drain pan. I tried hot water and a concentrated solution of Simple Green and then again using Formula 88 and a stiff brush. The oil would then emulsify but only with vigorous brushing and still seemed to lubricate. In a washing machine that uses soapy water as part of its wash cycle, this is exactly the qualities you want in an oil. I would suggest you use this Whirlpool oil rather than 90w regular or synthetic automotive gear oil." link to item: www.amazon.com/Whirlpool-350572-Oil-Gear-Case/dp/B00LOX24J2 :)

What drain pan? The gear cases are sealed
@PCHERE6 жыл бұрын
I believe the "Drain pan" refers to a pan the "Amazon comment guy" used when he was working on the machine. Filling this model (500 or model 70 belt drive washing machines) there is a vent hole...watch the video...this is where the tube is inserted. i bought the tube and the oil on eBay. I used a can with the tube to fill.

I got an identical 80 series 1983 model 82380800. It broke a couple years ago and now, largely instrumental with your video, got it working great and strong. I had a little rougher time getting that cap to go down on the catch dogs correctly, but ran a whole cycle YAYYY!! Everything works again. Now a tube to refill the transmission fluid and it will be eternal......almost!! Than You so much!!! Today's date is May 10, 2023.

Thanks for this! My wife's sentimental 70 had stopped draining a couple of times, was able to get it going by giving the basket a turn. Tonight, no luck. After siphoning out a full load, the drain pulley was not turning. A little oil to get it going until I can do a proper cleanup and lube.

I have a Lady Kenmore portable washer I bought off of Craigslist, and it did the same thing. I added oil to the transmission, and it begun to agitate and spin again. One thing I learned is you can add oil to where the bolt to the agitator bolts on to the transmission shaft.

If it was close you can try carving or sanding the end to a sharp or chisel type tapered end to see if that will fit

Nice video, I have a similar washer but the issue is that it drains water SLOWLY during the wash cycle. You mentioned yours wasnt draining at all because of the pully. Do you have any ideas for what might be causing it to drain when it shouldnt? its not a leak and its pumping up into the drain tube. I'm wondering if there's an issue with the transmission itself.
@permofit2 жыл бұрын
Could be but it could be the same issue i had just not as bad yet good luck

You take the transmission out and remove the wig wag and then the cam bars. Remove the bolts and pour the old oil out and then put 30w oil in it.... Did tons of these in peoples front yards... Yes, im old.

My gearbox seems to "seize up" from time to time. I hear a squeak during the spin cycle, and the next time I go to use the machine, it fills but nothing will move after that. I removed the back cover, the motor and water pump pulleys move fine, but not the gearbox pulley. So I sprayed that pulley shaft with silicon spray as well as injecting some lithium grease into the transmission fill hole. I tugged the belt at the same time as grabbing the gearbox pully to free it up. The washer will work, until it starts to squeak during drain/spin days later and then seize up again the next time I turn it on. So can I open and clean the gearbox by flipping the washer over and removing the bottom plate from the tranny? Or do I have to access it by removing everything from the top first(agitator, basket, etc.)? Thanks
@permofit2 жыл бұрын
I accessed the gearbox from the back I believe I took the panel off and I use a thin oil like a lightweight motor oil or transmission fluid for a three in one oil but nothing heavy like a grease

While I appreciate your good intentions and this video it bothers me that while you had the thing all apart, why didn't you take a few minutes to clean the upper ring portion that mounts to the top of the outer tub. There is also a rubber seal that goes around that ring as well and I did not see it in this video. The last thing is, how do you get the agitator OUT and removed from the drive shaft? That part was missing too. Otherwise thank you.

My plug on my Kenmore 70 series got really hot but didn't melt it just got soft can I salvage it? Somebody with a little wisdom on the subject PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME!!!HELP
@permofit9 жыл бұрын
Are you talking the plug that goes in to the wall? If so i would say you can still use it but.... Some thing caused it to draw more power and get hot. I would say you need to find out if a Motor is dirty or running hot does the motor need oil or do bearings need to be oiled or lubed? Is there a belt that is slipping for sticking causing strain? Something could be shorted out either way need to find a concert to get hot otherwise it is a potential fire hazard. I need more details just ask

permofit I guess so. Anyway I went ahead and laid her down and pulled the motor and trans alose to check the clutch because the coupling appears to be A-OKAY, and low and behold the clutch is nice and stiff. So now I am back to my KZbin Brain trust to see what else it could be. I am going to try to check the trans fluid while I am in here.

I have the Canadian Version and the "agitator" is a series of solenoids that activate to lift a bar like a see-saw action. My symptoms are it is constantly in drain mode and only when I push up on the "bar" does it agitate. Anyone know what this means? Here's another person's video of the 'ol machine..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHnZkHtmfbmDebc
@permofit5 жыл бұрын
That video is very cool i would start with cleaning everything then oil or grease and in that video it looked like it was getting hung up close to the solenoid so i would unplug the power and move all the parts as they should move by hand and see if they feel like they move in a smooth manner or not
