Wow! I have the same exact issue on my N52 exhaust cam. The cam bearing ledge is all gouged on the upper clam shell that most likely caused this aluminum to gall on the cam. I will have to try this!

You may want to double check that you are getting enough oil circulation. On these BMW 3.0 6s, sometimes pieces of a broken serpentine belt will get pulled in through the main seal and find their way to the oil pickup tube in the crank case. That is the most common cause of this camshaft symptom in that engine.

Hi, how did it perform after the project?
@freestylette4 жыл бұрын
Much smoother. Not as good as new, of course, but much quieter. I imagine it will last a good 10-20k miles with no issues.

Nothing difficult. Try muriatc acid then polish. Eats the aluminum and rust just don't leave it on more then 30 mins. Use a fine brush to remove aluminum if you want to speed things along. Nothing wrong with what you did, just another method

Awesome. Good to know. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah muriatic acid works the best for removing aluminum transfer from steel.

Never ever do this!!

Easier to prove that it does work than that it doesn't.... Never had any issue since the fix. Over 10,000 miles later. 💪
