None of these solutions will work if you insert the SD card and absolutely nothing happens but in the beginning of the video you stated that these solutions could fix that problem because it was in your list of possible problems. You can't scan a card that's not showing on your computer, you can't re-assign a drive letter for a drive that isn't showing that it even exists. None of these solutions are even possible if the drive isn't showing in the computer.

yeah this is my issue. I'm using a USB card reader and I've tried a couple other micro sd cards and they all read fine except for the one card that made me find this video. The other cards appear normally in "My Computer" however the one I'm having difficulties with, appears greyed out as if the computer detects a device is in the drive but cant read or access it. I attempted each solution in the video but alas none of them work. Even tried formatting but that doesn't work because the computer can't read or access the card :(

I don't understand why this video is called "How to Fix SD Card Not Detected..." when in this video the sd card actually shows up. 3:08 in disk management the disk is shown in this video. 3:55 you have to type in the drive letter of your sd card that is not showing up (How to do this?) 4:24 you have to update the driver of the device that is not showing up (I have one sd card that's show up here and another that doesn't)

Here is my tip: Most card readers have a switch on the left side (see the grey switch on the side at 6:57). Just move it down and insert once, then move back to the original up position and reinsert. Only this worked for me after trying various solutions for an hour, so maybe it could work for you too.

Extra tip: I would recommend opening it with Rufus and formating it to non-bootable. I had issues with SD cards (and pendrives) after they were formatted to bootable drives - they wouldn't be properly recognized by windows afterwards. Would only be able to reformat them to non-bootable with special software like Rufus (that's meant to create bootable media).

So what do you do, when you know the port is good (other cards detect just fine) but when this one in question is inserted, Disk management hangs, windows explorer hangs, and programs that access the file system hangs. Pull the card back out, and windows explorer unhangs, disk management unhangs and everything goes back to normal. Plug the card back in and everything hangs again. It's not a new card, its 128gb in size (and its authentic) It's about 8 months old, and has not been accessed for about 6 months.

It has never worked to simply pull things out and plug them back in for any computer I have owned. If Windows 10 cannot detect one camera card it probably means it cannot detect other camera cards until after another update.

I think you forgot one of the main reasons people can't read micro sd cards on PC's. Most devices which use Micro cards ( like dash cams) use only Fat32 system, and yet PC's today all use NTFS. That is the problem. These days it seems Windows 10 is constantly updating and that always seems to change things within disk management in particular to all these removable device drives.

Your first advice, of making sure the SD Card is not loose, actually fixed my issue. My Phone SD Frame is broken and sometimes after inserting it into my phone it doesn't settle in perfectly. After securing it with a layer of adhesive tape, it was fixed. Many Thanks.

PLEASE HELP!!! Great tutorial. However, I was not able to recover the data on my SD card so far. Just purchased the program and run it on my laptop. On the SD card driver selection, it says "Lost 1 partition", however it also says that I still have over of 29GB of data on the SD card. The most annoying thing during the scan is that about every 2-3 minutes it pauses and brings this window by saying: "there are many bad sectors in the disk that scan cannot continue. It is recommended that you restore the currently scanned files asap", and it's only 2% of all scan complete. Yet, I don't see any files listed to Recover. Please HELP...!!!! That's not the point, the method of changing the drive letter can't be done since the whole point is the drive isn't showing up. So this method isn't actually a method for this purpose to begin with, which makes many of the other methods un-usable.

The card does not show up, so I cannot assign a drive letter. It shows up on my other PC running the same Windows 10 immediately without issue. Yes, unprotect supposedly helps recognize it sometimes. Then adding files or working with it and pc knows to expect it due to it being added to its registry.

To troubleshoot a micro SD card that is not showing up, you can start by restarting your computer to see if the card is detected. If not, try using a different card reader or adapter, or try inserting the card into another device to see if it is recognized.

Hi there. Thanks for the video. Well, I finally made it to the disk management and when I look below, It shows disk 0, which is the hard drive for the computer and below it, it says disk one removable and a letter (D) beside it and says no media below it. For some reason it is just not recognizing the card, but it does recognize the card in a way. Because when I pull the card reader out containing the 32 gb SD card, it disappears. The USB works because it shows my thumb drive when I plug it in and it comes up in the Disk Management and shows the size. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks.

I like how you bring up that the sd card can be physically damaged, claim that "all these cards are easily recoverable", and then never go back to what you can do if the card is physically damaged. If the card is physically damaged, there probably isn't anything you can do, but you don't include anything for testing to see if the card is damaged (the damage may not be apparent on inspection) or not. Complete waste of time.

You've missed one important issue which you did not cover. The SD card reader itself. Prusa isn't using the best quality reader. Seems the metal prongs that make contact with the SD card's contact points become bent, rendering the reader useless. Rather than ordering a new one from Prusa, (unplug the printer), shine a flashlight (it's easier to just take the LCD card out of the case) into the SD card reader slot to see which prong/s are bent. Take a narrow metal tool and bend the prong back to the original position, like the other prongs within the reader.

Can you advise on issues with SD cards used in the car infotainment system? I have a VW Golf mk7. I’ve been using the same SD card for music for the last 12 months with no issues. However, I took the card out to add more songs last week (which I’ve done many times before) and the system now says ‘unable to read SD card’. I’ve changed the format and it’s still not working. I’ve also tried other SD cards which previously worked and now do not. All of these work fine on my laptop, just not in the infotainment system. I’m baffled.

What do you do if the built in SD card reader (desktop tower) works perfectly in a Windows 7 installation (separate boot) and in a Windows 10 installation it disapears shortly after boot (like a minute or so) and isnt even there in the device manager after that ?. If the card is inserted and the computer is booted it is recognised and i can access the files, but the drive and filewindow just disapears shortly after that. Its obviously not a hardware problem since the hardware is exactly the same, but something related to Windows 10.

I had another go at this today and if you check view hidden devices it shows up as "Genereic storage device USB device" but it shows code 45 which means that its not connected to the computer, but it clearly is and still works perfectly in Windows 7. I can get it to work perfectly in Windows 10 if i disconnect and reconnect the card readers connector to the motherboard and it will work until the computer is rebooted then its the same problem, it disappears after about one minute (the computer even makes a sound then). Opening the desktop tower and disconnect and reconnect the reader to the motherboard is clearly not a solution of course.

My problem is there is no recognition that a card is in the reader slot or a brand new USB3 card reader is connected. When I first plugged the USB3 in with an SD Card it didn't work, I re-started the laptop it worked. Next time it didn't work and hasn't worked since. So I can't use an external drive for re-start. the Laptop is 3year old Lenovo Yoga 500.

Above all else, make sure your laptop is fully updated. Non of the software fixes were working, so I was going to start buying USB SD drives. I was at a loss. I then went to check the time and see if I could make it to a store and noticed that Windows was pending updates requiring a restart. Needless to say, I restarted the computer and retried in a final last ditch effort. It worked! With that said, it was still very informational very helpful. I learned a lot and I think I could assist if an altercation with an SD card occurred. Thank you for making these troubleshooting videos!

simple tip: if you have no important data on your SD card and if you cannot see the SD card in 'This PC' but you can see it in 'Disk Manager', simply 'delete Volume' by right clicking on the disk in 'Disk Manager', then right click on it again and create 'New Volume'. follow the process pops up and install and choose the letter and format type, press next. then take out the SD card, restrat the PC and insert it again. then refresh the 'This PC' page then you SD appears there.

I actually tried formatting my SD card more than 10 times, yet unfortunately the issue is still present. My real problem is that the video still plays BEFORE I transfer it into the SD card but AFTER I transferred it, the video doesn't play anymore. Plus, the transfer speed is just a miniscule 355 kbps on average so is it possible to solve this issue (as well as increase the transfer speed)? The SD card is a white Sandisk 128gb & I've been dealing this problem for months.

Hi there, thank you for your question! Check the file system of the SD card: If the file system of the SD card is corrupted, it can cause issues with transferring files. You can try formatting the SD card using the FAT32 file system, which is compatible with most devices. Well nothing here helped me ... I'm starting to think that the mini sd card is done. It is kind of recognized at first but then it just dissspiears. It doesn't shows up in the disk manager nor in the device manager. And even more I cannot execute chckdsk or a virus analysis because it is not shown anywhere HELP !

An interesting problem I discovered was that some of the devices I had plugged into the other USB ports were using too much power. When I removed all the unneeded USB connections my SD card reader suddenly started working again.

You say to insert a micro SD Card and nothing happens, that is my problem. Then disk management change drive letter but there is no read and nothing there recognized to change a letter to. ??? Am I not understanding this right? I swap the card to another PC and nothing happens there as well and nothing recognized. This card came from a working Android phone and swapped the 128 G for a 256 G and when I place this card back in it is not recognized in the phone either. I wanted to format the card to be used again for Octoprint. Nothing works to get this card recognized again.

Hi Michael, I've got an issue with my micro SD card not being recognized by my PC or laptop. I've been through this video, nothing helps. The fault is NOT the card readers OR the adapter for either PC or laptop. I've tried the card readers 0n both PC and laptop with other cards, they're both working fine. I've tried changing the micro SD card and using the same adapter/readers. Other cards work fine (I can read/write to other micro SD cards). I've checked the connections on the micro SD card, it does not appear damaged. The card is a "SANDISK 64GB". For some strange reason the card DID appear once on device manager. My PC said the card needed to be formatted but gave the size as 32GB. I didn't format the card, I ejected it then put it back in, but it's back to not being seen. Any advice? I'm feeling this card has had it?

Hey when I did the chkdsk method it said this: Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges or the disk may be locked by another process. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode and make sure the disk is unlocked. My Sd card doesnt show up at all you know how to fix this?

what's weird is my pc has a sd card reader on it, and when i try to go into the disk management thing, there's only a disk 0, some other options for it and windows C, but there's no other disk 1 2 and 3, and not one that says removable disk, i'm trying to see if i can figure out how to add one i guess maybe that would work

hi man. i have an SD card 64gb and as i format it , shown as 58-59gb, i see its about the 1000-1024 "problem". So my question is that i need to fit in that memory card an image thats for raspberry pi3 game pack system. As i click properties in that image i see its 58.6 GB (63,020,466,176 bytes) but when i try to write it, it cant fit in the memory card. What i suppose to do? The image must not the problem, propably he has released it, he use it.

I did Solution 2 and assigned a letter ,still did not read SD cards ,but when i did Solution 3 it deleted assigned letter and the volume in disk management now it does not show up

But what do you do if you plug the Micro SD card into your laptop and NOTHING happens? There's no drive in disk management, there's just NOTHING. When it was working 5 minutes earlier, it showed up as a USB drive, always as D: in This PC. Now, I have nothing. Tried uninstalling my USB devices and letting them reinstall, all to no avail. There are no SD Card or related devices anywhere in device manager. It works fine on another computer and with a card reader adapter in my iPhone. Just this computer, which it was working in 5 mins ago, has been restarted multiple times, and everything... it's like you didn't even plug the card in. It's completely not recognizing it's even there. What do you do in THIS case?

I restarted my phone and out of nothing stopped recognizing it. I plugged the SD card into my laptop SD reader and it did recognized it, heck it even could browse through the files... then when attempting to examinate it and repairing it, it became no longer accesible for windows. and now I'm watching this... And how the frik I'm supposed to scan for viruses if I can't even get a read on the darn thing? Update: after backing up the files on another laptop that did recognize it for some reason, the problem fixed itself... after reinserting the SD card in the phone and resetting a few times... I don't understand...

Diskpart freezes as soon as I try to use it. The drive im trying to recover is an sd card thats always pegged at 100% usage with 0KB/s read and write speed and 0ms response time. I have no clue what is going on with it. It also says 0mb is formatted but when i right click the drive to format it windows explorer crashes and restarts.

Please help. I photographed my son's bachelor party, and all the important pre wedding pics including first look on a 64G SD card. Everything was working fine. I shot pics until the card was full. I changed it and the next day when I checked the card -nothing. I put it directly in a case, nothing happened to it. It just suddenly became unrecognizable to all my devices, including my camera! I'm just sick over this loss and have tried for days to get to the data. Today I was able to put it in a card reader and find that only in the properties area of computer/disk management, but it reads everything as 0. I was able to reassign the letter of the drive, but it didn't help. I tried to run a chkdsk command on the new letter drive, but it tells me that the device is not ready or "Cannot open volume for direct access." Someone else ask earlier but there was no answer. Please, what now? I HAVE to recover this data!

assigning drive letter worked! By the way, if the "change drive letter " is greyed out, make sure you unlock the "readonly" switch on the side of the sd card, and voila! Thanks a million!

When I went through all these steps, it didn't look like the MicroSD card was detected by anything. My laptop and phone recognizes all my other cards, and I even used different adapters, but to no avail. I tried using Autopsy as well. The entire system acted like that specific card didn't even exist, but every other card was fine. I'm starting to wonder if that card is fried, or that fine line across the card is more than just a fine line.... I'm worried it's cracked or broken.... Had my pictures in there and everything.... 😭

I have this issue where my computer gives the write protection error to every sd card I try, including normal ones and micro sd cards in the adaptor, got a tip for that? I had backed up my 3ds files so I could transfer them to a new SD card but this write protection thing kinda stopped that, I can copy files from it just fine, and the cards work perfectly on other devices, this just...doesn't work
