Calming down your mind 1 hour before sleep is the gamechanger. No phone, just journaling, reading, reflecting and planning the next day. This will also increase your sleep quality, just try! 🙏

For me, journaling before bed time isn't too good because my mind starts to enter thinking mode when I'm reflecting. This makes it difficult for me to fall to sleep.

Watching this at 4am cuz ughhh I can’t seem to fix this. I used to work different shifts- early morning, morning, afternoon. My sleep cycle changed based on my work and affected my hormonal imbalances too. Now that I’m on break from work for a few months, I can’t seem to sleep before midnight and wake up in the morning. I used to have dinner by 8pm and sleep by 10-11pm 😭

Changing your sleep cycle after a long time can be tough. It'll need dedication and discipline from you. Try winding down an hour before bed. Establish a winding down routine by testing out different habits to see what helps you relax. Think about light, temperature, energy, and timing to improve your sleep. Learn to feel like sleep is a from of procrastination. Never try to sleep. Always say your going to wake up in an hour. Not sure if that is why I can sleep for more then a day if I let myself. Think all that is false but it feels true.

• I'll wake up at 6:45 am • I will stretch and do a dance routine in the morning • I will have my coffee before 12 in the noon • I will routinely take a shower after dinner • I will limit my phone use with just music an hour before bed • I will turn off all the lights an hour before bed I will sleep at around 10:45 - 11:00 routinely

I know this is a short but this is incredibly oversimplified. I've had this problem for over a decade and have literally tried this many times. The problem is his "solution" doesn't actually fix the problem but rather shows how to prevent it. Great to not have the problem at all but doesn't fix much when you actually have it again. This is especially true if you're waking up at completely backwards hours.

Sleep or not, when my sleep schedule is completely horrible I stay up: Staying up does not reset it AT ALL. What I do is go outside at 7-8, literally just sit there, exercise maybe and then eat immediately after. B4 bed I calm down 2 hrs ahead, fast for 4 hrs, shower right b4 bed. Then I do a bunch of breathing exercises.

Take a walk until - 9:15 pm Take a shower until - 10:00 pm go down for dinner at - 10:00 pm finish eating - 11:00 pm go on my phone until - 11:30 pm take melatonin at - 11:30 pm Possibly make tea at - 11:30 ( and drink it along with any other activity I’ll be doing before 12:00) free time until - 12:00 am ( so I can read, journal, listen to music, do yoga, meditate, etc.) Go to bed at - 12:00 am Wake up at - 7:30 am or if that backfires I’ll wake up at 8:00 am sorry for writing this lol I was just planning out my night routine

That's super late! I would start with something small like starting to shut down half an hour early and going to bed a minute or two early. Little steps go a long way!

Yeah, that won’t work because I have insomnia and I can’t just go to bed that quickly. Also now I’m used to staying up until like 6 AM then waking up at like 7 PM I’m staying at the whole night until 6 AM again and I can’t just go to sleep because I already have so much sleep also the insomnia isn’t helping😅

Take a 30 min nap if you didn't have enough sleep earlier, if it's just laziness try working out for 5-10 minutes, it activates your body and removes the lazy feeling

This type of thing works if you're going to sleep and waking up at the wrong time temporarily, not if you've fully ruined your sleep schedule and your body is actually used to it. If your body is used to your schedule, it will defy odds and force you to wake up despite you staying up for so long. I could not sleep an entire night then go to bed at 10 pm, I'll wake up at 1 am at the latest.

Ugh... you read that advice everywhere, and while it may work for 9-5ers, I am in the transition from Chief Resident to Attending, and my schedule looks different every day: morning shift, late shift, 12h-shift, 24h-shift... hardly applicable for me. How about some advice for people like us!?!

Heres another tip I bet: Stop bringing your phone to bed with you. Make the decision to turn your phone off when you go to sleep and stay away from it, no matter what.

Gradual changes. Turn it back one hour every week. This week try going to bed at 2, then next week 1, and so on until you can sleep at 9 consistently.
