Showing how to fix weak or mushy brakes by replacing air with mineral oil on shimano brakes this simple bleed can be done on most modern shimano brakes. This method can be used for setting up brand new brakes that have not been bled, or used for old brakes that have slowly gained air overtime.

Video makes it look very simple - is it? On a scale of quick bike maintenance, with 1 being removing disc brakes to 10 (tightening spokes properly) where does this stand? Hoe much "touch" or "feel" goes along with this? PS, yes, I've turned inexpensive problems into expensive ones trying to replace my own spokes. There is an art to it!

I took my wheels off to wash my bike and when I put it back together the levers would pull in much further (not quite to the bars) and feel slightly weaker, is this sudden change still because of the oil? I didn’t do anything to the breaks other than take the wheels off.

Mineral oil from the supermarket is cheaper and exactly the same and why not get a bleed hose and push the air out the bottom through the caliper, then the pads can stay in?
@justinherman5047
@justinherman5047 2 жыл бұрын
its not exactly the same there's many different grades of mineral oil i'm not saying your brakes won't work just not sure on how reliable they would be plus you would more then likely be mixing different kinds like what ever was in your system first and the supermarket stuff might not mix well

don't mean to stink up your video but when your bleeding your brakes to get all the bubbles out you need to pump up the lever hold it like you did with the velcro strap and release some fluid right at the brake caliper its the screw right next to the brake line you put a small hose on it first and a pop bottle or something to catch the fuild that comes out then you top up your master cilnder before releasing the strap then you tap for bubbles again flick the lever repeat two or three times till there's no more bubbles o and when you take out the bleed screw on the lever careful not to lose the little o-ring thats on it it some times stays in the body and not on the screw your little cup can pick it up when you remove it and your brake will leak from that screw hole good vid other wise
