I'm a guy that just took up the hobby of repairing old clothes with a starter sewing machine. It makes a huge difference from a mending job that took a tedious 30+ minutes by hand to less than one with the machine. I'll be doing this next. We have very nice, fitted sheets that the elastic went dead. My fault was, I didn't know that elastic hates the dryer. And as a previous commenter mentioned that the old elastic could stay. I'm glad I watched your video. I was thinking of just sewing the new elastic over the old. I didn't know! I'm new to this. 😄

I am leaning everyday.I have a brand new machine somewhere in a box and I have no idea how to use it ,especially the threads but I will try my bes to start with the 4 corners and see how it goes.

Very useful thank you. I think my sheets have elastic on the corners, so I am going to try it like that, and I will be hand stitching as no machine!

Thank you for this video!! Do you recommend a specific quality of elastic? I read non roll is best but it's expensive. Thankyou.

@@lanejohnson8552 You're welcome! If you are sewing the elastic on in the manner I described in the video, you won't need to worry about non-roll. The non-roll is best when you are sticking it into a casing and not sewing it down (such inside a waistband). For the purposes of this video, I would suggest just a regular elastic that fits in your budget. Hope that helps!

One of my fitted sheet hals elastic on the corners but the sheets itself was not tight and I did like the lady did on the video and now all my fitteg sheets are flat and tight.

As a beginner, I tried this years ago and wound up with elastic that was permanently stretched to the max and was baggy and had no more stretch. How did I do that? Did I stretch it too much?

Do I add elastic around the whole fitted sheet or just the corners?

Any ideas how to re-use the good elastic edging of a worn-out fitted sheet?

If it’s not too difficult to get off you may be able to use it in other projects-shirring a sleeve or a neckline, masks, etc. You could use it in kids’ craft projects like making a beaded or macaroni stretchy bracelet. It may be such a hassle to get off, though, it may be worth just buying fresh elastic next time you need it. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your suggestions. I considered patching my worn-out fitted sheet, but then read that a bottom sheet will only last 2 years!!! It lasted longer than that, so I got my moneys worth!!
