Thank you for posting this! I have a mare that gets cinchy and will definitely be trying this on her.

Dawn - Use the same technique as described in the video, just be sure to use a 25 foot rope to keep yourself at a safe distance. When she pulls back and pulls the rope through, let her, then shorten the rope back up and do it again. Keep doing it until she quits pulling back. Hope this helps, Thanks

I use this method and it’s wonderful!! But before I even correct the behavior I fix the problem. Which could be: ill fitting saddle, cinching up too fast or cinching up too tight. Fix the problem before correcting the behavior

I am wondering what you would recommend for my mare. She let's me cinch her up, but as soon as I am done, she quickly backs up and sometimes rears. This doesn't happen every time and in fact she may go weeks without doing it at all so I don't let anyone else saddle her just in case. This concerns me as I want to be able to get her saddled by others so they can ride if I'm not around. Thanks.

I have a horse we rescued from an auction, she had a scar from a bad fitting saddle as well. She has done soo well but I’m having the hardest time getting the sensitivity out of her flank and underbelly. I’ve don’t all this marine buoys Jeffrey’s paper sacks you name it and the moment I get on and my heal touch’s her belly she goes into a panic.. what else can I do to help her with that? I’m thinking someone spurred her to death too! She’s been checked and is clear of ulcers so it’s not pain lol! Thanks for any help or guidance! I want to get her safe to be a good horse for someone.

@@Anna-rv3fv yes! So we did a lot of the flank rope like this gentleman is doing except in the roundpen not tied. And took more time and taught her as soon as she lets go of the tightness in her flank , we released with the rope. After she did that we held the pressure longer until she would slow down and get more fluid in all three gates. Then I just held the rope, and hand held the flank rope and has her walk around me and I just had it snug but not tight and would twist my hand so the rope was tight and release when she relaxed. I also did hobble work to get rid of that resistance and panic reaction she was having to things! We also did ground driving and she had to get used to all those rope on her moving and tightening to change directions in the roundpen and such! Another thing was stirrup driving with the saddle! I just did atone of that until eventually now she has no flinching in her flank anymore!

@@kaelenallen742 absolutely beautiful. These are all things I plan on doing with a new horse of mine - as well as letting him wear the surcingle after using the rope, then bareback pad, then saddle. He’s older and has been traumatized by bad handling and saddling so we have a long road ahead of us lol. That’s so awesome that you were able to help your horse!!

I have tried this method and I’m having some progress but My filly tries to bolt every time I even reach for the cinch or the rope that’s under her belly. We were doing well with about 5 successful saddlings. She usually gave off two or three halfhearted bucks before Settling down. On the 6th saddling the cinch broke and the saddle flipped under but was still held up by that back cinch. SHe eventually bucked off the entire saddle but as expected she’s a bit traumatized. I can swing a saddle on fine and she’s calm but once I reach under her she takes off.

thank you for this info... I always wondered what to do about my cinchy paint. She came to me like this. I take it real slow. I give her treats I never tighten right off the bat. I always try to praise her and pat her, pat her belly dont make the cinch tight, etc... I always make sure I can fit my fingers between cinch and belly, etc.... I see some work I can work on.

I think I'm gonna try this on my mare! She is getting restarted after having about a year break and she has definitely turned into a cranky lil thing when it comes to saddling.

really? you think that's safe to have the horse tied to panel fencing while you do that?
@katherineburton17666 жыл бұрын
Would you prefer he have him loose and kicking? He is safer tied. Look at the tie, he can get himself space if he needs it. He even showed how the horse loosened the lead. Then he tightened it up again. The horse is protesting, yes, but not freaking out. He is learning to deal with the pressure, rather than trying to avoid it. They are both doing a great job.

Darla Connolly this guys been messing with horses for over 20 yrs I think he knows what he's doing lol

It looks like her used a slip ring so the horse could pull back and Not pull the panels... My preferred option to this is to have a lead and halter and then use this rope .. allow them to travel, kick and buck if they want but then wait for them to seek the Walk.. THEN I release...

Many photos of horses of the past, show those white spots. I thought it was from sores, but wasn't sure if it could come from a lot of miles, or pressure.
