In this video, I show you how I fixed the Rode Procaster plosive issue without having to use an external pop filter or windshield. This hack is very easy to do and only cost me between $1.95-$2.95 for each of the wind filters.

I had a foam ball on the outside of my Procaster and I found a spare one in my mic drawer. A quick snip and I now have an extra layer of foam on the inside. Thanks, Shane! I'm also hoping it'll help with sibilance too. If it doesn't then I'm going to change the name of my podcast from "Amazing Applications" and stop talking about the Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 -- a horrible mouthful of words designed to test the plosives and sibilance of any presenter and their mic.

This is a truly incredible video, so glad I went out looking for more information about my procaster. I have the same problems with plosives and record off-axis which makes the audio more inconsistent, this is going to make it much more viable to do meditation recordings directly and get more low-end. Thanks so much for making this! Can't wait to try it with my own setup. Subscribed.

For people who want to do this buying a higher quality windscreen will not dampen high freq that much. The difference can be really big. The Sennheiser ones for their dynamic mics are pretty good and not muffle that much. Some other cheapo made it just super muffled. It matters which ones you buy.

Wow , it's almost like a totally new mic now . had the choice of getting this or the shure for a very similar price. Almost had regrets in my recent recordings but this seems to be a total fix! @annekedebruyn7797

I did this + having the regular Rode WS2 on top. I can blow on the mic without it causing issues. One thing I did differently is that I got the official Shure SM58 one. (which was 5 euro instead of the cheaper 2 euro ones.) The foam was a bit less dense which caused my tone to stay more intact. This was especially important since I wanted to put the Rode WS2 on it too. Great for those without mic technique! Tho I am using a DBX286s to get some high end back.

I just got mine and love it! I can't seem to get the top off though. Great vid! Thanks EDIT: Just left a thumbs up and subscribed, then suddenly the top came off, awesome to the maxx. EDIT AGAIN: This seems for me to only be a temporary fix (I'm guessing because the foam compresses) but after about a day it goes back to every P is a pplosive. So I added more foam, it work for another day and I'm still running into the same problem 🤦🏽‍♂️
@GeekyNerdyTechy

Interesting. I wonder if the foam needs to be added more to the sides of the diaphragm. A few still get through but my mics both have additional foam now. I noticed quite a lot of variation on the foam from wind sock to wind sock.

Amazing tip, thanks a lot :) I definitely want to try it, one question though - is it safe to add the foam that way? I mean, can adding the extra foam inside might damage the mic or it shouldn't be an issue?
@annekedebruyn7797
@annekedebruyn7797 3 жыл бұрын
Probably too late but i'd like to answer it anyway. On dynamic mics, not really. Foam will break up over time but on the procaster, there is already another piece of foam in there anyway protecting the mic from the cheaper foam. On condensor mics, I'd worry a bit more. Or at least, change the foam out every year or so.

Like he mentions in the video you'll have to cut the thickness to git in there. The XDM-100 (sort of the USB version of this mic) uses an even worse foam configuration than the Procaster. The XDM-100 ships with only a little foam tucked into the cap, without surrounding the capsule on the sides at all. Still, stuffing it with extra foam should have the same result as this does.

I just received my Procaster last week before Christmas and its great. I've tried it with my Zoom H8 and it certainly provides more presence to my voice than any lavalier does (as far as I know) . While I tried the included shock-mount accessory, it felt weak and wondered how you got it to stay in place without gravity and the heft of the mic pulling it down slowly. I've ordered the Shockmount suspension accessory, but wonder if there are other less bulky shockmount accessories out there. Also, how does the boomarm perform. it is easily strong enough to support the 750g Procaster?
