How to fix the sticking or finicky sunroof on a Mini Cooper

Simple fix when the sunroof has trouble opening or closing. Hot sun causes the sunroof to expand and not so soft anymore rubber gasket causes friction.

Two of our MINIs (we have 5 in the family!) had the exact same problem recently. I did notice once they cooled off, they worked better, though still not correctly. I also noticed ours had some dirt/debris built up on the edges of the weatherstrips. I cleaned them and applied a liberal amount of silicone on both the glass and body sides of the gaskets. And it does indeed make all the difference in the world. So before anyone makes a high dollar mistake and heads off the their MINI stealership, they should absolutely try this.

I just had my sunroof cleaned, two months ago they just had to do it, now the sunroof doesn't close once open. I think mini did something. I'm going to try this trick hopefully it works.

Do you have a part number for the outer seal that goes onto the roof

Thanks, it will be better then it is that’s for sure person I got it from looks like he chewed the whole thing. bro,it took 3hrs to get off the amount of caulking they smeared from the glass over the seal and on the roof

@@single_cam9199 Lol. Previous owner must have seen the fix on TikTok FYI - clean out the drain holes and check that the drain hoses are not loose or leaking. Did a video on this.
