I'm speechless! I'd been so disheartened with my shoulder imbalance for years, even to the point where I stopped working out completely because all muscle development was exaggerated on my left side and my left trap was noticeably hunched. I tried the release you suggested with a lacrosse ball last night and when I looked in the mirror afterwards I couldn't believe it! The left shoulder had dropped and completely matched the right! I cannot thank you enough Blake! I'm finally allowing myself to get excited about working out again. Keep doing what you do!

Winner of a video, I've been looking for "muscle imbalance shoulder impingement" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Reenrianna Imbalances Redemption - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my neighbour got cool results with it.

Had to leave a comment. Have had real issues for 5 weeks with my training, constant feeling of one side getting more work than the other in all routine. Discovered it was a shoulder height imbalance. Tried your cricket ball rolling into the traps. Amazing. Everything is now back to normal after 5 minutes rolling it out. Thank you bro!

I have this but it kind of seems like the whole anatomy of my shoulders is different on both sides. They just do not look like they belong to the same body.

+GuerrillaZen Fitness hey i have a problem with my shoulders not being symmetrical however, i'm not sure if its the same problem as yours i really notice mine in military press, dips, squats, lateral raises etc...was wondering did your problem also affect your arms and the angle at which your elbows point? for example if i'm doing a flat DB bench press, or even a a barbell one for that matter ...let's say you took a picture from above me my elbows are going to be pointed at different angles as well also resulting in asymmetrical properties...now i've learned to work around this over the years but it still bugs the SHIT out of me that i have no idea what the fuck is wrong and neither does anyone else...with that being said this is the closest i've come to finding a solution so i will for sure be trying these tips

Subscribed based on this video alone. I injured my left shoulder badly about 1.5 years ago lifting weights, took a couple months off and resumed weightlifting but over a few months developed pain in the areas you're describing. Finally had my wife watch me do pullups tonight and she confirmed what you're saying, that my left shoulder is about 2 inches higher than my right. I filmed it and watched myself and sure enough she wasn't kidding. That means that for the past 1.5 years I've been doing heavy weighted pullups with a shoulder imbalance and 100% confirms why I've had this constant pain in my neck and traps. QUESTION: How do I fix that? Can I just go back to bodyweight pullups and consciously make my shoulder stay down? Will this retrain the muscles permanently over time or do I have a chronic problem now? Any help is really appreciated and I thank you for the video.

Scoliosis is also a major cause of uneven shoulders. Would this be useful for someone with scoliosis, and is it always the high should you do this on? My left shoulder is high, and my right scapula is winged.

I absolutely have this and been struggling for years. I load evenly and perform exercises that try and not aggravate the issue. I hope this Thera cane is the answer I have been seeking for years. I don’t have an elevated shoulder anymore due to corrective exercises but have this annoying tightness that makes my wrist tingle when it’s really tight. When it’s not tight my wrist feels perfect. If I can fix this then I will no longer be held back by it for once in over 9 years!!

***** yeah i know, i cant find any tennis ball at the moment so i just tried to massage it like theres a ball pressing in my trapz and it works fine, im just asking for help to those who have the same experience so they can give me tips, thanks though.

***** hanging 10 mins is really challenging and need pure will power to finish it..i started today hanging 1 min is already hard for me after 3 sets of 1 min per set my mind and body gave up..ill try again tomorrow hope i can improve my hanging grip this week.. #willpower

***** just hanging there is so hard..its like harder than doing chin ups but i can say that just hanging can fix my shoulders coz i can feel the strech in my spine whenever i do it and it feels good its just so hard to do..hahah btw thank you so much for this info..ill do my best to fix this freaking shoulders,my spine and my hips hahah i sometimes felt that my hips have a slight forward twist maybe because of years of just sitting in front of computer i developed this deformities but this wont stop me from working out i need to be fit and straight coz this november ill apply to be a coast guard and hope my body can endure the training...thanks again

De La Seoul actually bro i see a lot of improvement since goldenchild told me my trapz dont hurt anymore unlike before that the pain keeps coming back..i cant do the whole ten minutes yet, im doing 1min per set right now for five set and i feel great after that..its not just the pain in my trapz but i can see a minor improvement by just hanging.

Bro you don't know how good this is to watch. I'm a baker, repetitive job pulling tins of bread weighing about 8kg out of an oven using the same hand/ side has caused my shoulder to drop. Seen 3 osteopaths in my area and still the problem persists. It got so bad the other day my nerve was all locked up in my right hand

This is EXACTLY what I am having issues with. Glad I found your video. Ive been doing shoulder shrugs with dumbbells, seemed to help even things out.. Didn't know about the ball trick to relive tension. Also ordering headset for phone at work. Always kinking neck to hold phone, its become so habitual I didn't even realize I do it. Thank you!

For me all the tension is in my right shoulder which is lower than the left. It tries elevating itself to compensate. I had a wrestling incident myself 2 years ago and so far the pain is unresolved and my right shoulder is much lower and i have severe neck and shoulder pain. Based on your video it would make sense to treat the shoulder that is higher than the other one? In my case the higher shoulder is healthy and doesn't feel very tense. Is this still correct?

I have the same exact problem. I've always wondered before whether it's one shoulder that's elevated or one that is depressed. Even my chiropractor couldn't give me a straight answer. All I know is my right shoulder is lower and that's the one where all the tension and pain is around the levator scapula and upper trap area. My left shoulder gets a little tight sometimes but nothing like the right side. I suspect the right side pisses off the entire chain which eventually bleeds over to the left side.

Absolutely the same problem with me, my right shoulder is severely dropped, causes a lot of pain and even seems like there is less muscle then the seemingly health left shoulder. doctors have always focused on correcting my right side, should i take my attention more over to the left shoulder. seems like a lot of people are asking this same question, any answers?

Not sure if anyone has experimented and found an answer but here's my experience (same problem side, L higher than R and feels more stable). My problem went away after working on my R serratus anterior and lower lat. My left lower lat was much bigger (visibly) and after working on the R for months, I one day noticed they were equal. The video addresses a problem of high shoulder but we have a problem of a low shoulder, due to the lack of stabilizers on the R. Hope this helps, curious to hear what others found

Thank you so much. My whole shoulder and trap has gone bright red and I think I have released some of the tension from leaning over and writing for 12-18 hours a day during my exams.I didn't even notice until I used a timer to take a picture and my left shoulder was a LOT higher than my right.

I was doing incline bench press over a year on an uneven bench putting more stress on my right shoulder without noticing it . Just one day I had pain in my right shoulder and realized it is not like before like when i touch upper portion of shoulder that bone is larger than on the left side , after five years It is still the same . So it is not just lower but more forward so I lost lot of mobility in that side. I am not even sure if I can fix it anymore but I am trying. Thanks for the video

Hey awesome video: tip with the ball that my chiro showed me was get a long men's tube sock and put the ball in it, then you can hang on to the ends and pull the ball down on your shoulder for pressure. Or knot 1-3 balls in the sock and use it against the wall or another hard surface.

It could be because of the replies, but studies show that people also have their main hand shoulder lower than the other. If you're working a desk job for example and write or use the mouse alot, your main hand can be lower

My uneven shoulder is due to carrying water too much from right hand,i exactly know it so nowayds i carry my water from left hand so it become balance....left is abit uplift but i will do your tips thnkew...i will start it from today

My left shoulder is higher than my right, I saw a physiotherapist and he told me it is because my right lat is too strong and my right side in general was stronger and my right lat caused a crease in my back bringing the right shoulder down. Rather than my left side being stronger with the higher shoulder.

***** I am most probably asymmetrically loading my right, I am going to try get my left side stronger to take the pressure off and strengthen the left lat so this does not turn into a functional scoliosis.

idk guys I recommend assymetry. One side is power and precision and grounded the other is more about tai shi and grace and if you do both properly even though its perpendicular than you might actually be attractive.

Great Video Man . Great knowledge and easy to follow. I've been lifting for a while now and my left shoulder is higher than my right . Funny enough my right shoulder feels impinged and I always thought this was the weaker and 'problem' side if you will, but now I know it was just dealing with the brunt of the load (especially on bench press which is by far the weakest due to this problem) Anyways now I'm ready to bring my left shoulder down using these techniques and hopefully make some strength gains .SAFELY . You're a lifesaver man!

Hi there, One of my friend has uneven shoulders as a result of paralysis attack back in his childhood, could it be the brachial plexus impingement that you talked about in this video. Or we should try other method told by you. All the help is greatly appreciated.

Put the ball in a clean long sock which will allow you to hold the end of sock comfortably in your hand and you will put ball end behind shoulder and you can lean against the wall. Ball will be easy to keep from falling and easy to move the placement of if needed

I not only have uneven shoulders, but on the side that is lower is the side one leg is shorter than the other.On that side I also have pain and stiffness in my neck. What should I work on the shoulder or the leg exercises?

Hey man, really like the video and I'll definitely try some of the techniques! My left shoulder has been higher for years and I've been lifting despite this, thinking it will sort itself out, but when I started filming my form it was ALL off, i.e. from a top down view my bench was at a weird angle, I couldn't row straight, the bar on squats wasn't parallel to the ground and I realised that I've developed a muscle imbalance, and by compensating with my right side, the left side is somehow elevated and its really been messing around with my workouts- do you think the tennis ball stretch would help? Should I do any other correcting exercises? I think I may buy the theracane thing if i start seeing some improvement! Thanks

I have chronic imbalances in my body due to a missing last rib on my left side. Do you know any sort of exercises to help balance out the muscles of both sides of the back and shoulders caused by a missing rib?

Im going to try this (: I have a slight hip hike on my right leg. Can you do a video on correcting it? BTW I've been doing prone cobras for a week now and I can feel a slight difference in posture thank you.

Thanks man! Been looking for a cure my elevated shoulder for a while now. I broke my wrist a couple years back and I didn't use my sling. So I think it happened because of my left arming had to carry the cast unaided.

My right shoulder feels like the rotator is forward. Not one higher but one moved more forward. I hope that makes sense. What would that be? It even feels like it is forward but to look at me you can't tell. But my traps get so spastic I get headaches so bad. My chiropractor says my headaches come from the traps and we thought it was neck but after a while he thinks it is traps closer to the shoulder blades. I mention that because would that be from the right shoulder being forward a bit? I was dianosed with scoliosis as a kid but it was slight and in three places that it doesn't look like I have it. So any way I also have left hip pain that feels like it's in the bone. I had a stress fracture in basic training not to long ago I was age 37. And I am now 48 and I do feel that same pain but in the other hip but not as intense. So I am not sure if it is a bone fracture again or the sciatica nerve? Cause it doesn't hurt all the way down. So I am all screwed lol. I exercise and if it wasn't for that I don't know probably would be worse off.

I watched this video for some answers but it sounds like I might be having a different shoulder issue. My problem is that my right shoulder (the shoulder I have pain in) hangs lower then my left. And I have to try forcing my right shoulder to sit higher than normal. Which is causing the pain. It's kinda the opposite in my case. Any help and tips would be appreciated.

I don't have a tennis ball or a thericane at the moment, but i'm using the tips of my fingers instead. I've had this for a while and only now i noticed why and where this pain is coming from. Doing this might have relieved some of the pain which brings me to the question, should the pain be relieved after doing this for a few minutes or does it take a few days doing this?

This has explained a lot. thanks man. I have an impingement in my right shoulder and it's higher than the left. I've been doing exercises my PT/physio has given me to fix it and it's doing wonders. BUT now I'm noticing pain in my left shoulder (which is lower) with the asymmetrical loading I work in a deli so my right shoulder gets worked hard every day, feeling like its unavoidable :(

Hi that´s the video I needed, what can I do if I have an inpigment in the shoulder?? I release levator-scapul and upper traps with your thecnics but I think my problem comes because of inpigment of cubital nerve. If I depress my right shoulderblade I create tension in cubital nerv and automaticali y elevate my shoulder, so unconsciously I have elevated scap during all day. What I can do?? Maybe some nerve movilization exercises after muscle release for relaxation of this nerve?? Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. Going to try this with my 7 year old, one of his shoulders is slightly higher than the other (even after a couple of chiro visits). I suspect he's had this since birth - it was a very long labor...

I think the main reason for my uneven shoulders is that while my family were having a meal we watch tv, and my mother is right in front of the TV, and also a little bit to my left, so I turn to my right in order to see the TV. About 10 years doing that should obviously result in some uneveness. Also one summer I lifted weights only with my right arm, so there's that too.

interesting video, my right shoulder is severely dropped, causes a lot of pain and even seems like there is less muscle then the seemingly health left shoulder. doctors have always focused on correcting my right side, should i take my attention more over to the left shoulder. seems like a lot of people are asking this same question, any answers? also the stick is not linked and is not advertised for sale on your site.

Hi! I have been dealing with extreme back/neck pain for the last few years..after many Doctor/chiropractor/physical therapy visits I finally found out all my pain was caused by uneven shoulders and hips due to an uneven desk setup for many year at 8+ hours a day..my desk set up has been addressed, and in the last 6 months I have been to a great physical therapist who has relived a lot of my pain, buuut I've sort of reached a plateau where I'm kind of stuck with the remainder of my pain AND I'm still pretty uneven..I have a thera came and use it daily, is there anything else you would recommend that would help level out my shoulders and hips?

Well explained, but is there not something missing? I have a bit of a winged scapula and on that same side I have an elevated shoulder. When I deadlift that shoulder is pulled forward more than the other, so there must be muscle weakness on the winged/elevated side. Don't you think it's all connected? Having a weak rhomboid and lower trapezius maybe aren't enough to pull down on the shoulderblade to counteract the trapezius? And maybe the trapezius on that side is overly strong from having to work alone when these other two muscles sleep while I deadlift?

What about for a broken clavicle that has healed but is off center. I don't experience any pain but there is a clear rise in the opposite shoulder. Would weight lifting help bring the lower shoulder back to correct height?

I noticed in my handstand holds that my right arm/shoulder is more elevated than my left. I didn’t notice this until just before I recently got a muscle strain injury in my left shoulder. Would this video be a good rehabilitation for what I have?

hah great vid man. I got this problem with my right shoulder being super tense, which is why I think my left and right pecks are so uneven. Is correcting this issue just stopping the uneven loading and tissue release, or are there exercises that help reinforce even shoulders as well?

Hey awesome vids! ive been having pain in my right shoulder for a few years. My right upper trap is elevated and always tense and stiff neck. The main pain is in my right armpit near the the subscap it feels like a pinching stabbing pain and it makes it worse when im stressed and affects breathing. Im doing physiotherapy at the moment.

This is spot on but what we also don't take into account is that these muscles over compensate to a high degree. It is commonly overlooked. The best way is to find an imbalance is to search the kinetic chains. High shoulder can be a result of imbalanced hips, leg length discrepancies, spine curvature etc. What is difficult is diagnosing the actual root cause. If you are lucky enough that this is a result to a high active upper trap and levator scapula. Then I guess simple massage and trigger point techniques, coupled with lower trap training should relief the symptoms. With my experience uneven shoulders has been a result of too much bench press, tight pec minor, tight neck muscles, tight upper traps on the and week lower traps. Those muscles that are tight tend to push the shoulder foward and lower it, making it look like you have one shoulder higher than the other when it's just one is more foward and the other is back (posterior and anterior placement of the glenohumeral joint).

Would you recommend I continue to train the upper traps during this evening out process (relatively heavy shrugs for sets of 8 for example)? Or leave them alone until they re-balance? And the same question for shoulder training in general.

Hi Sir - I have this uneven shoulder where my right shoulder is lower than the other one. The right shoulder gets hurt when I;m using the mouse in front of the computer which I do most of the time at work. I also thought one of the cause was loading a heavy bag way back going to shool. Now I am working always in front of the computer and was not aware that my right shoulder is leaning forward. Are the exercises you have shown applicable to the lower shoulder? Hope to hear from you. Hey dude, great video and awesome channel. Super helpful! I don't load at all but have had my left shoulder/trap higher for months now. It's gotten bad enough that randoms even point it out now. I've started some rehab type stuff, even added these and it's helping for certain. Not sure if they are connected, but I guess it can't hurt to ask someone smarter than I am. When I do reverse DB fly or depress my shoulders AKA like for bench press. Packing them. It causes really bad neck pain and comes around my right trap and hurts into my chest. Feels maybe like pec minor or clavicle area maybe. ANY ideas? See a doctor at this point? Lol Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Blake - Do you have any videos out on what type of exercises your PT gave you for the neck trauma? I have right shoulder (chronic tight upper trap/lav. scap) and my head literally feels pulled to the right (as if I was doing some sort of lateral chin glide). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my PT is milking appts without addressing it...

My stronger side is actually the lower shoulder. Were I unevenly loading I think it would be on the low side. Perhaps I have a structural problem. I have had neck and back issues in the past. I will try these release techniques anyhow, it can't hurt.

What if you have this issue but the shoulder that is lower is the one that's out of place and the higher one is in the normal position? That seems to be my case because the right is lower and has all kinds of pain and trigger points in the trapezius but the left (higher one) is perfectly fine, no pain or tightness at all.

I see that my neck is actually a bit shifted to the right side somehow, therefore I'm not sure if it's one my shoulders being disbalanced resulting in neck shifting. Or it's actually the shifted neck itself? Have you heard about anything like that? What I definitely know is that my right shoulder constantly has more weight weight put on.

I am developing uneven shoulders because of drawing and painting on the easel for 3 hours e a day. Obviously I must use one shoulder to do all the work and I cannot stop this activity because it's my work. Are there exercise I can do to work on my other shoulder and strengthen it up so that they will be even?

Love this video! So they only way is to remedy of fixing this is realistically relieving the pressure points in the Levator Scapular/traps? Is there any stretches that can be done to fix the problem even quicker?

thanks for the video, but it seems more likely for a "tightened up shoulder" (don't know the exact word though).. What I was searching for is a shoulder slightly bent downwards and might be affected because of uneven scapula bone..! need some advice on that... :-)
