I could argue that Claude fighting Nemesis is symbolic of him destroying the Fodlan of the past to help move it towards the future
@Armads4Prez4 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. Though I would argue Rhea would still make a better final boss in this circumstance since Rhea has been around for all of Fodlan's history, while Nemesis died 1000 years ago. Rhea and Claude also know each other and have different philosophies about religion, which makes for an interesting conflict. Nemesis and Claude don't really have any reason to care about each other. Nemesis seems more interesting in killing Seiros above all else, which is why he became the final boss of my Silver Snow video.
@basilofgoodwishes41384 жыл бұрын
@@Armads4Prez That's Bull. Claude and Rhea have different views on faith, but much more in common that you think they are, as both care deeply for those who suffer. Nemesis being dead doesn't matter, his Legacy lives on in the 10 Elites and Edelgard and he is arguably the true Creator of the history of Fódlan. Claude defeating him is the same as a Civil rights activist killing a ressurected Christopher Columbus, who created the Genocide on the Native Americans and started the tradition of Colonialism. Nemesis is the Origin of Fódlan's Xenophobia and Claude needs to kill him, in order to achieve that. Rhea already defeated Nemesis and a rematch for her is not Necessary. Her being the final boss in SS is much better and they could just fix it by infecting her with an Poison or the true Leader of the Agarthans turning Thales's remains into an Demonic Beast. @Armads4Prez4 жыл бұрын
This may be true, but a lot of other characters have this issue. A lot of the time when watching Black Eagles dialogue it seems like the script says "Ok Bernadetta talk about how scared you are" "Ok Linhardt talk about how tired you are", rather than having the characters have a fluid conversation. This isn't always the case, but it is more often than I'd like.

@@Armads4Prez yeah but I mean what if one of these characters like Linhardt for example dies. If he had actually something important to say about the story, the player wouldn't get that information anymore due to Linhardt being dead. Thats only how I always thought about it, but you definetly have a point. I think especially when it comes to Silver Snow the Black Eagle Characters just feel a bit out of place. Though I also have to say that I'm not sure if units actually vanish in the story if they died on the battlefield since I never lost a character on classic mode.
@Armads4Prez4 жыл бұрын
Usually the Golden Deer dialogue isn't 100% necessary for the plot, but it still manages to be interesting. In the example I used in the video, Lysithea tells Claude about her experience with TWSITD. This gives us important context, but even if the player killed Lysithea the plot would still be able to continue. Another good example is Lorenz constantly questioning Claude. Not necessary for the plot, but still interesting. I don't expect Bernadetta to be an important plot addition. But it'd be interesting for her to talk to the other characters more rather than reminding everyone that she's scared.

About the Ashe problem: I think Ashe could've had a deeper relationship with Dedue. He's the only character who mentions Dedue when you explore in the first post-skip chapter of Azure moon. Dedue definitely deserved a reunion scene with not just Dimitri and Ashe could be used to smoothly bring in the rest of the cast. Ashe could also be used to add an extra scene to Azure Moon, after Dimitri interrogates the dude from Kleiman. Something like, Ashe asks Dedue if he's mad about how his people were blamed for something they didn't do. If Ingrid is alive she will enter the scene and apologize. It's kind of annoying how they wrote the game on the basis of "if x character is alive" and not "if x character is dead". I also think part of the Ashe problem is that there's evidence he bounced between houses. In some earlier trailers I believe you can see him as one of the deer. He even has special dialogue with Caspar, which is kind of weird and makes me think he may have been considered as an eagle.

He would have been the perfect character for the job, most of the time he is nice and polite, especially to nobility and to royalties. But, he can snap back if he wanted to. So whos a better character to snap Dimitri out of his depression other than Ashe. Claude emphasizes his desire to find out the truth behind everything multiple times, that makes Nemesis a pretty viable final boss. As for the unity across Fodlan, it does not appears to be a goal that can be achieved through fighting some boss. Also, the murdering of bandits combined with his reluctantness in killing Edelgard shows that he values life yet is not too gentle at the bad guys (which is a problem for many protagonists), but that's just my personal opinion.

Good stuff! I was expecting Count Gloucester to be the new final boss but this was good too. After the threats he’s made towards all of Fodlan I do think it's a bit unrealistic for King Khalid to be accepted as one of Claude's advisors alongside Byleth, but if we really want it to happen then it can be treated as another act of necessary diplomacy between nations that Claude needs to deal with. I'll also throw in the idea of Count Gloucester and Acheron trying to screw up your plans and disrupt the fair fight agreed upon by Claude and his father in the final map. This evens out the acts of aggression between both sides of the border and gives both the dirty nobles a little more deserved screentime in VW.

I agree that Nemesis really should have shown up on Silver Snow rather than Verdant Wind, but I don’t think Rhea being the final boss of Verdant Wind makes as much sense without changing the story. For that to work, Claude and Rhea would have to have more arguments for Rhea to lose her patience with Claude making so many demands of her revealing truths she herself would rather keep buried instead of the blind obedience to her that she’s used to (something she exploits on Crimson Flower to the point her followers and even the unrecruited Blue Lions are willing to commit blatant war crimes), and Claude on his part would have to have decided that Rhea outlived her usefulness after Thales and those who slither in the dark were defeated atop of mercy killing her… which kind of goes against his character. Something that should have happened in Verdant Wind, however, is that Claude should have had some more personal investment with Dimitri and/or Edelgard, because Dimitri’s killed off in the only post-timeskip chapter he’s seen in, and Edelgard’s death scene STILL has Byleth landing the final blow. Both of his fellow house leaders were unceremoniously killed off and Claude didn’t have a single narrative scene of interacting with them during the war on his own route.

Well, those were well-put Fix Suggestions for VW. The only one I find iffy is reusing the "Mother's Death causes Ceasefire-breaking Drama" as part of the base for the Final Battle (and the Mikoto imagery as a stand-in example doesn't help make it any more appealing), but that's because from what I understand of the tiny tidbits about Tiana's backstory in the game, you could get better results with the Gloucester/Acheron assassination attempt being a failed one but also the last straw that could push Claude's Mother away from the idea of Fodlan and Almyra ever cooperating peacefully. It could also open an interesting sub-boss/side-antagonist proposal for the final chapter with the Queen Consort herself: in a strange parallel to her husband's "Almyran Supremacy", Tiana would advocate more to Peace between Fodlan and Almyra being only possible through "Mutual Unawareness" (which should also goes against Claude's Dreams) to the point of not learning of her son spending around 7 years in Fodlan until he requests reinforcements, with her response to his campaign is more likely to end about trying to appeal Claude to "return home, forget about Fodlan and let his Father finish the job" even if it takes some force. Finally, a big reason I'm now rambling about the idea of Side-boss!Tiana over Dead-Mom!Tiana is because along with all the rules of the Proposed Final Duel to Decide the Fates of Fodlan and Almyra it would, in a ironic yet beautiful twist that fits Claude's arc, make the Final Battle be a giant match of Chess with a King, a Queen and their Best Warriors on one side and the Golden Deer on the other being a lineup of a Pseudo-King (Byleth), Pseudo-Queen (Hilda), two Pseudo-Bishops (Lysithea and a choice of Lorentz/Marianne/Ignatz), two Pseudo-Knights (two choices of Leonie/Lorentz/Marianne), two Pseudo-Rooks (Raphael and a choice of Ignatz/Leonie) and Claude playing both the role of the Outside Chessmaster and that one Pawn that's a few movements short of promoting into a Wildcard Piece.
@xenrusxenomorph22684 жыл бұрын
Dang! Your idea is amazing!. And I mean thar sincerely. I actually think that thematically makes sense as the final boss would represent the ancient game of whit. The whole thing being both a game and a deciding factor for both lands. Claude putting his troops on the line in a final battle that truly tests the depths of his tactical mind. And in doing so, giving an interesting play on the "Mother" aspect of the series. Instead of being dead, a queen to a king and a lady on a side to end a war started throught hostility and aggression. Siding with her love and the man determined to see Fodlan burn. If I could propose a musical track for this final level; I would call it "True Storm" It would be a song that has its rain version heavily as a remix of fodlan winds and feature wind and string instruments that turn into brass and a heavy emphasis on drums later on. It's an anthem and a war cry. But just light and airy enough to be a sort of fun but tense moment.

I think Claude's fight with Nemesis makes more sense looking at Nemesis moreso than Claude. Nemesis is demands for Byleth to engage him in single combat. Claude however reaches out and helps his friend. The irony is of course Nemesis himself is using his allies to protect him. Would it make more sense if Nemesis were on say Crimson Flower? Probably but Claude and Byleth's fight make sense given Claude's ideals. Claude with Rhea meanwhile? Unlike Edelgard he doesn't hate Sothis or the teachings od the Church of Serios, he simply is a nonbeliever. And given his willingness to talk to her instead of pointing his sword at her means they probably would have, and do in VW, simply talk. I think the obliteration of the Kingdom Army on Gronder is only acceptable if we look at it with Claude fighting in self defense, Dimitri was enough of a mad animal to not allow Claude to retreat even if the Imperial Army has been defeated and Edelgard is in a rout. And as for Edelgard? Frankly they should have had a scene prior to taking the capital like they did in AM. Simply have her say to Claude what she says to him anyways if you initiate combat against her with him, "Your ideals, I understand they're not so far removed from my own. But without sufficient knowledge of this land's suffering, I can't entrust Fódlan to you!" This establishes that she is unwilling to make peace with Claude and to see his own ideals through he must defeat her, regardless of the fact he still needs answers from Rhea who is in Enbarr. I get the feeling of VW and SS feeling same-y I do but I think the way his story is laid out isn't irreconcilable with some tweaking even with a Nemesis final boss.

hm but the fact that its Claude reaching out to help Byleth sorta makes it seem like Claude is not at the centre of his own routes boss battle. @lunarcat42784 жыл бұрын
@@ravina6686 ok but look at it through the one of Three Houses' main themes, that of reconciling one's path and moving to the future. Azure Moon shows Dimitri learning how to do this and how he needs his friends, and (kind of stupidly thanks to Byleth being an avatar) his professor. This arc is signified in three main points, with the start of the timeskip where Byleth reaches their hand to Dimitri and Dimitri just thinks the Professor is a ghost here to haunt him too, after Rodrigue's death when Byleth once more reaches out to Dimitri and the prince finally accepts, and then following Enbarr where Dimitri attempts to reach for Edelgard's hand and it only ends with a thrown dagger and a thrusted spear. Which actually transitions well into Edelgard, and by extension her nemesis the Archbishop, these two ladies simply for whatever reason cannot reconcile their past. And Byleth frankly manages to see through these ladies routes in spite of them, not because they helped the Flame Emperor and Warrior Priestess. And while Edelgard wants change her actions ironically only replace Rhea's lie with her own, far more volatile, one one that will mean the past will repeat itself. Rhea meanwhile has to be forced accept that change will happen regardless and either dies, leaves the public eye, or only manages to continue acting thanks to being with Byleth who thankfully isn't actually Sothis like she hoped. And then there's Claude... Yeah he already came to terms with his past. He understands the prejudice in Fódlan and Almyra and instead of being angry or being unable to stop having a fixation on it he's come to terms with it. He's vowed to bring about change yes, but he will not let his past solely define him. But there exists a few problems, two women who can't reconcile their pasts, one of whom is his political enemy now. ...and also an entire race of people who Claude ironically probably could have sympathized with if they didn't commit such atrocities as dropping a Javelin of Light on Fort Merceus, or literally causing every conflict on the continent in their spite. And they bring back their original champion with a single minded goal, vengeance for the one who slayed him, as some cruel means to extract their own vengeance for not only the same being but the surface itself. Claude always was at terms with his past, the issue was Fódlan itself wasn't, and he needed it to be to see his goals through. Him going to help Byleth (aside from how fucking weird it'd be to see Failnaught fight the Dark Sword of the Creator alone in any way) is an odd reversal of Byleth reaching to the other three faction leaders. Claude's can reconcile his past and his reaching out to Byleth is symbolic of him reaching out for Fódlan to do the same. Almyra may have its own prejudices against the people of Fódlan sure but it is far less irreconcilably fucked as Fódlan is. That's why Verdant Wind isn't Claude trying to break through Fódlan's Throat and dismantle Fódlan's Locket. He's trying to ensure when he does so Fódlan itself won't just burst into flames. And even then the scene also plays directly into Claude's ideals, he's not trying to do this alone, he himself says to the King of Liberation, "Yet we have the strength to scale the walls between us, to reach our hands in friendship, so we can open our true hearts to one another! That's how we win!" He implies compared that unlike with the others his reaching out to Byleth is a lot more mutual. It's his ultimate scheme and a microcosm of his greater ideals.

The Alliance is unique because it's a democracy rather than a monarchy like the Kingdom/Empire (you can see this in how each student has a unique colour palette rather than a unified palette like the other routes,) but everything that makes it unique is kept off screen: Besides Judith and Acheron, we don't see any other nobles; despite happening TWICE during VW, we don't get to see what the Alliance's Roundtable Conference is like; and most importantly, we don't see the bigotry that Claude was wanting to change be a part of the main plot. Azure Moon did a better job with racism than VW. The Tragedy of Duscur is a main plot point that affects Dimitri, even if Dedue dies, and during Part 1, church staff are snarky and rude behind Dedue's back. We don't see that at all in VW (and remember that Petra and Cyril are optional units here!)

The Alliance isn't a democracy, it's an alliance. It's a group of smaller monarchies that share military resources so they can defend themselves if one of them is attacked by the kingdom or empire.

I actually think Nemesis works perfectly fine thematically as a final boss. He pretty much personifies the ancient conflict between Fodlan and Almyra, as well as being a perfect example of the distorted history of Fodlan, both of which are things Claude fights against. Plus, he's just a cool character in general, it seems a waste to never be able to face him in any route, especially when considering he's lorewise probably the most powerful character in the game.

@@Rasdanation The thing is, I agree that Nemesis should have been the final boss on SS _as well,_ but thematically he works way better on VW than he does on SS. That goes for TWSitD as well, by the way. They are isolationist assholes who believe their own people and culture are the only ones of value, and view everyone else as "beasts". In other words, they are the antithesis of everything Claude believes in, whereas in every other route they don't add anything of worth to the plot. Honestly, Nemesis would have worked as the final boss on any of the routes except for maybe AM. Aside from SS and VW, he would also have worked great on CF, as Edelgard clearly idolizes him to a great degree, and they share a lot in common (both being conquerors with similar ideologies who bear the Crest of Flames). Her facing him as her final opponent could have been seen as her facing what she would have become without Byleth's influence, as well as her coming to terms with the fact that she clearly didn't understand the history of Fodlan as well as she thought she did.

For the others I understand why they didn't develop characters except for the lords in the group cutscenes since they all run the risk of dying and would make those scenes weird if what they say were integral to the story. I also don't think Ashe is the worst contender for this, for example if alive he suggest that Dimitri try to talk with Edelgard before fighting.

For some reason I feel like an alternate VW would have started in Derdriu. Get pushed back and take a vacation to Almyra. Then you eat some good food, talk to Claude's fam and go "oh yeah how's the war going?" So you peek back in on Fodlan and see Dimitri and Edelgard duking it out. After that you and the Deer decide to extend your Travelocity membership and hit up Brigid, Dagda, Sreng, and Duscur to see what's up with them. With the non-fodlan penta-gang now back in business you realize Edelgard hit Dimitri with a Double Baconator no cheese with extra pickles and put him in the dirt. So while she's busy heading back to Enbarr Claude and the gang blaze a trail and hold Edelgard at bowpoint. She is not amused and tells Hubert that they're wasting valuable time when they could be busy soaking in a nice hot bath back at the palace. As Hubert would like to get his Adrestian brand hot mug of coffee he agrees and sics everyone they got on you. Unfortunately, what they didn't count on was Claude's galaxy brain play to have everyone in the aforementioned league of non-Fodlan nations reclassed into Wyvern Lords, and so with the power of Alert Stance+ the battle was won without a single casualty. They did the same thing when TWSITD and Rhea show up wondering why this train wreck of a plot actually made it into the game.

I always thought the Nemesis fight was Claude finding out the secrets of the past as he wanted to the entire game. The devs said they have you never meet Holst and other characters so that you get a sense that the world is bigger than what you see. Also, Rhea wasn't "possessed" she was degraded which is stable for dragons since FE 1. However, I wish we got more hints of it before the end.

I think one of my main issues with most of the routes is that there's never a convincing reason why Dmitri and Claude would go to war with each other. There's the whole thing of 'Dmitri crazy' and the Alliance allegedly killing some Kingdom envoys, which is obviously someone trying to manipulate the kingdom but everyone just takes it as fact anyway for some inexplicable reason. And there's literally a faction out to fuck over everyone in Fodlan who can use magic to disguise themselves as anyone, so it seems like that would've been a really easy way to sow discord between the two for Edelgard's sake.

Combining Fodlan and Almayra would be an "evil" ending. One culture or the other would be consumed and destroyed. And even if Khalid was reasonable and worked to promote harmony, the differences would be a powder keg that would eventually go off. Its why people always stay primarily within their own cultures and borders. There are exceptions of course, but as a whole, people are different and NOT interchangable. Peace between the two in a treaty or alliance? Yes. Merging the two? It would be cruelty to the people of one or the others culture and a recipe for disaster. Even in the real world, people think this would work but its never worked in over 8000 years of history and it never will due to human nature, no matter how advanced things get. We are seeing these disastrous consequences irl playing out even now..... Heres the hard to face (for some) truth....There have ALWAYS been "exceptions". As in exceptional people who rise above their born culture and people to choose to fully assimilate into another. And such people should not be shunned, and never have been in history. But when you extend that welcome to the "not so exceptional" they will NEVER assimilate, because they don't want to...They will instead seek to reforge society in their own image to the detriment of the host.

1:51- I disagree with the nemesis fight not making sense for Claude’s route. Claude is a curious character and always asks questions. Since the beginning he was curious about the sword nemesis used, the sword of the creator. He spent most of his time in the library searching for answers on crests and he probably would’ve been interested in those who slither in the dark had the church not moderated what they put on their shelves, its kind of hinted at in his C support with Marianne. He was reading on nemesis’s 10 elites and couldn’t tell fact from fiction. And even spoke with Tomas about the history of the hero relics relative to the beasts that come from those who wield it not bearing its crests before he was revealed to be solos. Claude isn’t focussed on Nemesis because nemesis himself was believed to be dead, so of course it wouldn’t hold the same narrative weigh as the inevitable showdown between Dimitri and Edgard in the other routes- how it relates to his dream comes later on after the empire fell and Hubert tells them about those who slither in the dark. Fodlan can never truly be at peace with them around. Changing his objective to get rid of them so he can focus on unifying the nation after the threat is gone. Is GD ending good? Nah, we still learn he achieved his ambition in a text after the game is over How they could’ve fixed it was have Claude know how to take Nemesis down from all his research, that will make his intellect valid. But I do agree that him facing his dad or the king of almyra as a satisfying conclusion and it definately would've made GD ending more satisfying

know this isn't hate. I'm more playing devils advocate for the canon in game ending. I know I’m a bit late, but on your point about almyra trying to conquer fodlan, that’s not quite true. In the hilda and cyril paralogue, it’s stated by both of them that it’s more of test of strength rather than an attempt to claim territory, it’s just part of their culture.

Personally, I wouldn't have the limited boss fight. All that hard work you put in to raise all of your units is lost. And hes a guy who wants unity, so fighting alongside his allies is what he wants. Since Fodlan's strength is limited thanks to the war, your group is severely outnumbered. Nader is there as one of the generals. If Claude and Nader fight, there is a short cutscene where you defeat him. Claude says something like "Look at all the allies ive made here, it is possible!" or "You and Holst got along didn't you? That proves it, that not everyone is bad." and it parallels the fight they had earlier at Fort Mercus. After that, part of the Almyran army that Nader was leading aids your army instead.

When I watched the "how to change silver snow" video and saw this on the side bar, I wanted to watch both before I give my thoughts. Now that I have, here's what I think: I defs agree that SS and VW are waaaaaaaaay too similar. Even to the point of why play both of them when the main difference is the final boss and one route has claude which I like way more as a lord (seteth is a really good character but I personally agree with the SS video that he isn't suited for a lord and is much better as the dedue or hubert of SS). Specific to this video though, I like the changes quite a bit and make a lot of sense. I wished there were much more differences between SS and VW (Azure Moon doesn't bother me as much cause dimitri is an amazing lord and early on has much more connecttions to him then the other 2 houses but yeah). In particular I like the more experimental final boss idea including making the almyrans more relevant. I like the final boss being a giant chess match and should be the full demonstration of why claude is considered a master tactician. And as much as I like the nemesis fight, give that to silver snow and give verdant wind the super difficult battle with multiple ways to make it easier for you breaking through the enemies ranks.

I think a better final chapter is that either A) the alliance of Fodlan and Almyra causes outlookers to try to sabotauge it (though this might be better for a sequel story). B) the conflict at the convention happens and you have a fight on both sides, the goal is to avoid either commander being defeated by the other side (probably Nader and Holst). the way you win is to escort both Byleth to one end with the alliance to smooth things over while you also need to send Claude to smooth things over with Almyra, not sure whether it should be finishing the boss with those units or just escorting them to escape point or talking to the boss, but when you get the proper character to that side, it stops the attackers going to the other side. Once both sides have been pacified you win.
