My 96 Corolla had the same issue. Your video helped me find out why. Although the only difference is the switch is on a rivet. So I decided to take a dremel and a brush attachment and cleaned the corrosion right off. Only because I couldn’t remove the switch.

This did the trick on my 1998 Toyota T100. Ball bearing and spring are on a plastic piece that's riveted in so I couldn't take it off but the problem was the same. Busted the rust on the electrical contacts with some CLR and my dome light works again. Thanks!

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado my dome nor my reverse lights worked I replaced “TBC 2A” (Fuse) on the interior fuse box located on the driver side it’s a TRUCK BODY CONTROLLER also, make sure to check “TBC 2B” it’s a truck body controller as well. This fixed my dome and reverse lights problem.

I have a 1993 chevrolet cavalier Z24 and those cavalier dome lights are a pain. They have screws that are in the roof as a ground and are held in by rivets, unbelievable one screw broke off with the plastic of the domelight assembly. In this video wish GM made em like this! So simple

Hey i tried to push on the switch when it was on to see if it was the switch it was it went out completely even when you put back on on it also affect how bright the light is. I will try to take it apart and clean it thanks.

Great video corrosion will heat up a circuit blow a fuse it blow the bulb as well. Keep your bare hands off of the bulb

I put an led bulb in my toyota tacoma an when the truck is off an u open the door it is really dim an flickers and when u shut the door it stays on a while an then gets really brite an shuts off but when the truck us running it works fine ??

I checked everything and I mean everything, switches, fuses, lever switch, watched KZbin videos, googled people with similar issues, until after an hour or so I finally decided to go grab the multimeter and it turns out it was a faulty light bulb 😂

Im having a different problem than you, I have a 2nd gen 4runner and I led swapped my can lights and anyway its got a loose connection, and in order to get the led to shine bright as can be i have to wiggle the switch around and it never stays. And considering it it doesnt stay it is extremely dim so its pretty useless than my old halogen light. Do you know whats going on

Your dome light is connected to the keyless entry system. I shorted my light out and killed my keyless entry, so watch out when messing with your dome light.

1st gen tacoma LED dome light will only work if key is in ignition, kind of a pain during the dark entry. Any ideas why? BTW put in old incandescent bulb and all works as it should.... Puzzling

There is a problem changing to led's, there are certain changes that have to be made changing over to led bulbs. I bought a used GMC truck that previous owner had replaced all bulbs including headlights all the way through to the tag light. There were some sockets burned, a couple of wires melted and switches screwed up. had to replace all bulbs with original type, replace the sockets, headlight assemblies, left door lock/lights actuator and both of the main light switch assemblies on the dash panel. I believe there are videos here on Y.T. to guide you if you wish to use led's.

In my ‘98 Corolla, I leave the switch set to off. I’ve had too many times somebody left a door ajar or it didn’t close due to seatbelt stuck in door. Today, the light went on. It’s set to off. I jiggled it thru on/off/ door a couple of times then moved to off. It stayed off. Could this be the same problem? Corrosion or debris causing contact? Afraid I will go out and find battery dead one morning of light turns on randomly.

unfortunately this did not help me. my light it self works fine as i gave it power from 12V trasformer and tested both ON and DOOR postitions=works fine. i have some problem with the wiring it seems... also my toyota has 3 wires coming to the ligh, and only the DOOR postition is not working
