I fixed mine! Wire from negative battery post, or any other ground area like the chassis, and to the negative wire that leads to the fuel sender unit. Not the wires that go to the motor in the unit. There are two wires that connect to the fuel sender unit that tells the computer how much gas is in the tank. If one wire doesn't work, and your problem is the same as mine, use the other wire. Doing this also fixed six other DTCs I had!

On my Mustang it's under the back seat on the driver side. My problem was electrical. Your problem could be electrical or mechanical.

I had a wire break off the sending unit (not the ground) and I repaired it.

The shop manual that I have shows 3 wires that connect to the sending unit with another 2 for the pump. But, the hat only has 4 wire connections.

I’m wiring an aftermarket fuel level gauge on my 5.0 swapped 02’ GT. Do you know which color wire sends the fuel level to the stock gauge cluster? Tan or yellow?

What if it’s a new pump? I add gas and started back working then stopped again

My 99 gt I can fill it up an the needle moves but after maybe 3 miles down the road the needle sinks back down to E

It could be the sending unit or a fault in the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster can’t be swapped out as easily because it has a chip that has to match the key. There are some good repair services (I’ll post a link below on one I used)

Have a base model v6 mustang, 3.7 DOHC. The set up for this is through the tank with a requirement for a separate sending unit and also gas pump. Any videos for how to change this set up?

Hi, please provide some recommendations. I have P0463 with the fuel guage on empty and out of gas light. I replaced the fuel pump and I don't see any damaged wires. The problem is still there. Maybe it's the fuel guage?

My recommendation is to replace the entire unit as shown in the video so you do not have any wiring alterations or shorts in a fuel system

Be careful about buying an aftermarket housing because some of them don't have a lid that just pops off. I replaced my housing with pump a couple of years ago and the pump failed already. When I went to replace the pump, I had to remove a hose to get access to the pump and I managed to destroy the hose because I had to apply heat to get it off. And then I couldn't find a replacement hose. Lesson learned.

my fuel pump works fine but gas gauge isn’t working at all even when i bought it guy said he replaced the fuel pump but could it be fuse or actual sending unit

I would run a negative wire from a known ground area, like the negative post on the battery, to the negative wire that connects to the fuel pumps motor. Also Forscan is very helpful and free. Just purchase an OBD2 to USB connector.

I saw video and the guy said you have to drain all the gas in the tank is that a requirement when you add a new fuel pump? Because my mustang 2006 v6 won’t even go half way it’s stays near Full and I don’t what the problem is. Do you know what it might be ?

Thanks Danny. I have a 97 gt. I changed the tank, pump, and sending unit. The sending unit is brand new but shows more gas than what is in the tank. Example would be the needle is at 1/2 tank but it should really be at 1/4 tank. Any fix for that besides putting the old sending unit in? The old one worked fine

Hey Danny, where can I find a timing cover for a Mach 1? Can I just use one from a 99 or 01 Cobra?

I’m not sure. Maybe you could. I think a lot of people do the 99/01 timing covers on the terminator when they go turbo, so it should be compatible even though on is wap and the other teksid. If not, look on facebook mach 1 pages.
