How to Fix your Modern GPU BIOS - BRICKED / MINING BIOS / UNBRICK GPU

Hey folks, this video takes a look at how to fix a GPU that has been bricked by mis-flashing or has a mining bios on it - specifically for newer Radeon RX cards which no longer play nicely or are not recognised when using a bootable DOS drive.
The test card(s) is a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 560 4GB OC which has been flashed with a mining bios - good hashrate, crashes in games.
We can still use the card though in its limp state so we are going to take a look at the latest version of AMD / ATI ATiFlash and use the windows based GUI to get the correct bios on the card.
Goes without saying that when messing around with any bios you take risks so proceed at own discretion...

Thank you very much for this video. I fixed an SAPPHIRE Radeon™ RX 480 NITRO OC, 8GB GDDR5 with a mining bios on it and it works perfectly now. The video card with the mining bios crashed a lot in games and in playing even youtube videos.

Thank you for this video. I bought a used RX 570 on E-Bay. The seller said it was from his sons computer and he had built him another. But when I installed it on to my new build, I was getting the message "windows has stopped this device code 43". I called MSI support and the person on there end told me that the card was dead. That was not an acceptable answer for me. So I came here; updated the bios and bingo, it works great now. So thank you again. But next I buy a GPU, I think I will just spend the extra money on a new one. Slainte

I liked and subbed as your video is amazing. I have a question though. I have a rx570 and I used the AMD/ATI clock patcher after I recieved the 43 error in device manager. Is this a flashing method your revert to in your video as old and no longer working with new Radeon Adrenaline official drivers/software? Cause as soon as I try to install the latests official drivers straight from the AMD webpage they fail in the middle of the installation and the error 43 comes back! I re-checked with the Ati clock patcher and all limits were on again. Do I just need to follow your way of flashing and can I then after just download, install and use the official Redeon drivers. Because at moment the driver that is currently installed the ones that don't give the error 43 are installed automatically by Windows, but do show my Radeon x570 in the device manager with a yellow ! Besides it and I can play my games. Please give me some advise.

Hello, I have an Sapphire RX 570 Nitro+ 4GB ( Elpida ) working now with a mining bios which crashes from time to time in games. The card has a bios switch and tested both ways and the same problem with crushing in games. Im about to flash the card with the original bios from techpowerup but i have a few questions first: 1. Upon flashing, do i have to run DDU to uninstall Adrenalin drivers ? 2. Do i have to flash the same original bios twice ? ( first with the bios switch in one position and again bios flash switching the bios switch in the other position ) ?

Thank god! I just bought a rx 570 msi armor from ebay and drivers wouldnt install or anything, i used the first bios file (there were 4 of them) from techpower up and now drivers install and i think it is "fixed". Now i need to run that stress test, hopefully it passes as i got a decent deal on this 570.

same here , not honest fkn seller listed it as open box new(rx570 gb x gaming) for 79$ , but could hardly make it seen by windows, except driver problems windows just didn't want to recognize it and gave me 043 mistake, after i found out that bios was flashed , had to return it to default at my own risk, after everything worked properly, hope karma will come back to that person

I have a HIS RX 560 iCooler OC 2 GB which doesn't really give me any problems at all as GPU-Z recognizes it as RX 560 too but when I press the lookup button it directs me to the RX 460 techpowerup page. While I figured out what the problem is, I'm not sure about which BIOS I should use.

Maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I have a nvidia 1060 6gb card which I want to overclock. The card is working normally with no issues. If I flash the bios, is there any point? As in will I get higher overclock speeds than if I do not flash the bios. Also, can you actually brick the graphics card by flashing the bios? Thank you.

Got black screened. Can't do back-up because I can't boot windows if the gpu is still plugged in. I can boot windows with integrated graphics (igd) and I choose it as the boot device priority, but it black screens if I connect the rx550. Bios choosing not to work properly failed it all. So i bricked my 5600XT, I am wondering if I can put it into the second PCI slot, use an old graphics in first PCI slot to boot the windows and hope the Ati Flash will then recognize both cards - then I choose the bricked and upload a correct BIOS to it. Am I thinking right?

I bought a PowerColor Red Devil RX 580 8GB and gave video for 2 days but stupid me, I decided to update the drivers and now I get black screen. Since I don't know that much about modern GPU, I took it to a tech store and the tech told me it was used for mining. Is it possible to flash the bios even in this state? According to the tech, he says that it depends on how much time it was used for mining, because it can harm some parts in the GPU and it will be practically useless. Update: tech says is dead, no video signal and he even told me he put it on another rig and he couldn't even get the memory size, CPU speed, etc.

i tryd installing DS4WINDOWS not knowing that steam supports ps4 controllers and when i heard that i force stoped DS4WINDOWS installation and when i closed the folder the GPU instantly died. it was undetectable everywhere even on different systems. will this work? is it bricked and can it be fixed with this?

Quick question: does this fix persist through driver updates? I followed similar steps with a miner-modified RX 570 and the card would always bug out when a new driver was released. It wasn't permanent, as I could just apply the same fix again, but the inconvenience was still there. Cheers 👍

It worked at first but then I installed the latest AMD driver and also something that came with a new Samsung monitor. One of those bricked the card. Thankfully the mobo has 2 GPU slots so I plugged in an old GT1030; watched your youtube the installed both GPUs and restored the old one. Thanks min!

I have a fake 1050Ti I just figured out name was embeded while the card from my findings turn out to be 550Ti. Too late to return it, so I thought what if I flash it with its core bios. Windows driver update keeps seeing it as 1050Ti which disables the card after update. Manually install driver on Cards CD or 550Ti drivers found on nVidia website restores cards functionality. Hope this works if I use your method. I just want the card to have its original identity and work as 550Ti.

I use Pixel Patcher after each driver update and everything works fine except Valorant. Apparently when I install their anti cheat and reboot it screws my GPU driver and patcher won't fix the issue. Only when I delete that anti cheat everything comes back to normal. I am not sure if I should try flashing the BIOS just for that game though...

Would you recommend the same process with a 2080ti, given the correct bios? My card is stuck at 1350 and whenever I try to OC it with MSI afterburner it locks up, this happened right after I installed a liquid block and removed the stock fans.. I think a reflash should fix the issue, it was an amazing card prior.

You would need a different utility for Nvidia cards. There's also quite a few cases of Turing cards locking at low speed so maybe worth hunting through forum posts etc before reflashing

Though stable in desktop mode (watching movies and browsing the web) it's totally fine, but the second I try load up a game, the game crashes. I've tested multiple game and the same thing happens every time. You would need to use a processor with an IGP to get display then flash a working bios onto the card while using that. Do you get display on bootup at all ie before windows loads the driver?

bricked a 570. amd's software is shite and wouldn't work, tried the techpowerup bios and no connection to monitor at all whereas it would at least display before. Will deal with later, fortunately have a backup card.

thanks first of all but i got a very very special gpu and some problems with it. it got sold to me saying its the rx570 8GB version. but looking at the pictures i found after receiving (img.telemart.ua/64133-214462-product_popup/sapphire-radeon-rx-570-pulse-oc-4096mb-11266-04-20g.jpg) its probably just a rx 570 4gb flashed to 8gb.. the thing is the labels and everything have been removed and the guy i bought it from told me (afterwards) its a special gpu made expecially for mining.. (my gpu has a amd logo removed with a black marker on it atleast) .. with the help of a software i was able to install a amd driver on it but sometimes i have problems when gaming i get weird vertical black lines /flashing white lights when looking at something bright and the black pixels are kinda roughly visible instead of smooth. is there anything i can do to fix these problems maybe overclocking or something? perhaps its also my weak psu? but then again why would it work then.. i would be very happy if you could help me!
