A common approach to resetting your sleep, is to pull an all-nighter. Basically you don't sleep for one day, and you go to bed at the desired time the next day.
However that's like putting a band-aid on a bigger problem. It's also one of the worst things you can do for your health, even if the end goal is a healthy sleep schedule.
Rather than pulling an all-nighter, you should focus on fixing your sleep habits.
It's good to to understand how your body knows when it's time to wake up or go to sleep. There are two factors that regulate this and I'll talk about them in this video. You'll also get some actionable tips at the end.

4:49 now after a tomb raider session which meant to be 11 to 1. Instead went to 11 to 2 then on phone from 2 to 4:49. And then, again I'll go for a quick nap in noon and end up awaking at 6pm and again: cycle repeats

I'm a pro at this and the following, in my opinion, is the best way to get back to sleeping and waking up early. It's actually very simple. If you go to sleep normally at 3 am set your alarm clock for only a four hour sleep for that day. Start your day at 7 am by jumping in the shower then dressing up and doing your bed. Have your breakfast and you should have enough energy to get you through most of the day. By 5 pm, it's normal to feel tired, but DON'T go to sleep just yet. Do not drink any coffee or energy drinks and by 9:00 pm laying on your bed will feel like your in heaven. Say your prayers and before you know it, it only took a little will power with the right strategy to achieve normal sleeping habits.

Great video!! As someone who used to stay up until around 2-4am every night, and has managed to shift my schedule earlier, I'd also add in the following: - Avoid your phone late at night: (A) it has the blue light issue you mentioned and (B) it can be a gateway to other distractions like texting, social media, etc. - Have a consistent night routine: In that routine, includes things that get you to relax and wind down (like reading, journaling, etc.). Having a consistent routine you follow every night will get you in the habit of going to bed right after the routine is over. - Think of any behaviors which are causing you to stay up late, and make a rule not to do them after a certain time: I already mentioned cutting out your phone, but depending on what your vices are, you might want to consider cutting out video games, TV, podcasts, or anything else that keeps you up later than planned. These are some of the strategies which have helped me start going to bed and waking up earlier. I hope they are helpful to someone.

When I was 13 I ALWAYS like almost everyday I sleep at 3am-4am in the morning and few years later I had insomnia haven’t sleep for about 4 days straight then now that I’m 19 I still suffreing from sleep problems it’s hard for me to sleep early. Set 4 alarms (8minutes apart) and on the last one set shouting noises as your ringtone (I got a good one that I may be able to give you). Go see some light (the outside) immediately and then go get a shower (turn on cold water on the last 30 seconds) and again go see some light after doing so. Preferably do some light exercise and drink some coffee. DO NOT sleep throughout the day until the hour you want to sleep. If you get sleepy get out of your current too comfortable position and get out of the dim light. Go see the outside and the god damned light.

I never took advice from anyone for all nighter but planned to do it.... and your story is soo damn relatable First watched anime,Played runescape,took breakfast and tea and its around 10am then energy drop then setted alarm for 15mins the took a nap at my desk but luckily Woke up at 3:30pm so not all day was wasted ,either way it was futile to try as Ii slept again at 4am playing videos games and now I am cripple with insomnia. Yes it is 3:17am in night.

@@Universe_Energy Try to sleep less. If you sleep for 8 hours normally, sleep for 5. That way you will have enough energy to go through the day without having a strong urge to sleep and you will also feel sleepy earlier at night than you normally do. If you do this for a few days you could probably fix your sleep schedule

Fuck me. I never slept in peace, like NEVER. I've always slept so late at night even if I had to go to school /uni or anywhere. I'm starting to recognize that this is a serious problem, I have insomnia, my brain is about to die and probably I'll be dead from a heart attack. Every time I try to better my sleep, wake up all day to sleep earlier, exhause myself with whatever, keep my phone far away from me, no caffeine no food no fucking things. I can feel the stress in my Jaws, my eyes and my head. Right now I am awake from yesterday, probably will stay for the end of this day. I'm sad and depressed and this is making me angry on myself and everything. Why am I not a normal person??????

My problem is bigger, im going to bed at 7am or 9am... waking up at 4pm. 5pm... and the cicle repeating itself for the past 2 months, some days I will try an all-nighter stay awake until the next day and try to go to bed at 9pm or 10pm, only to wake up at 2am feeling well rested.... and then it will all repeat again...

you have to go to the bed as usual, but wake up a few hours earlier the next day. It will be your first day doing it the right way. On this day you will be tired and your brain will force you to go to sleep earlier, to recover from the last night (higher concentration of adenosine). So you will probably sleep much longer on the second night, but as a result of going to bed earlier you will wake up earlier on the second day too (in comparison to your old pattern). On the second day going to bed before midnight will be impossible, because of a long sleep last night. But waking up much earlier on the third day will be easy for you. So you just keep this cycle, till your body adapts to going to bed at, let's say, 11 pm. Then the hardest part will be just to keep this pattern, staying awake for 16 hours a day, but no longer and go to sleep as soon as you feel tired and it's around 10-11 pm. Good luck!

@@lsooon5278 hi, you're welcome! Try anything that seems to be working for you! If you feel good on the second (a long one) day, then try to wake up an hour earlier on the third day. But if you feel tired after waking up, then don't set the alarm clock anymore and let your body adapt by itself. The most important thing is to not staying awake longer than 16 hours a day since day 3. Here's an example: day 1: waking up at 9 am after sleeping for 6 hours... + 12 hrs staying awake = go to bed at 21 pm day 2: waking up at 7 am after sleeping for 10 hrs... + 17 hrs staying awake = go to bed at 12 am day 3: waking up at 8 am after sleeping for 8 hrs... + 16 hrs staying awake = go to bed at 12 am day 4: same as day 3 I hope it helps :)

@Sarah Gebhardt i just think "being a night owl" is a stupid excuse to staying awake late at night but I'm a night owl too hehe so im gonna try fixing my schedule by avoiding sleeping at afternoon first then eat like a lot of rice at dinner (night meal) around 6.30 to 7.00 pm - trust me rice just helps to have a good sleep so by 9pm or so i expect myself to be asleep then wake up the next day early so that i can stick to the schedule. sounds like a plan ¯\_ʘ‿ʘ_/¯

I was sleeping at like 4am because of how messed up it was but now that I fixed it I'm sleeping at 12-1am. Definitely would sleep earlier if I could but my body doesn't seem capable of that.

I laughed at how relatable this is. My line of work gets me having no decent sleep schedule and after a few months id revert to an all nighter to fix it but as i got older it really took a toll on me. I tried 2 other methods and one was staying awake aslong as possible and sleeping when i felt tired and this lead to changing my sleep cycle a few hours forward each day or the other option was to wake up 30mins earlier each day. Id say the latter was the best option.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that, my mental health has been terrible for as long as I can remember. I've been trying to fix it for almost that long. But no matter what I tried, it just kept failing. People gave advice or habits to form to make it better, but not how to implement that advice, or form those habits. For the past months since I found your channel I've been implementing the techniques that you explain and yeah, there have been relapses, but I am getting better. Things that I have struggled with for years are behind me. Even depression is getting easier to work through. Things that I though made me a bad person or a failure feel less like part of me and more like challenges to overcome. So, um. Thank you. Thank you so much. I'm going to turn on my low light lamp and go to bed at 11:15 instead of 11:30 untill I get my way back to 10:00.

Okay, this is how it works for me: 1 Decide the day when you want to restart your body clock, planning and commitment is important so you can prepare yourself. 2 When the day comes, force yourself to stay awake for the rest of the day by doing tedious and tiresome chores. 3 After that, you should be feeling tired already. Then, sleep between 9-11 pm, this should restart your body clock pretty fast. (atleast 1-3 days of practice, but mine happened overnight)

No caffeine at all works even better. If I have caffeine at all throughout the day you can bet I'm not sleeping on time or it's going to take forever for me to get sleepy. That's especially true for people who aren't physically active throughout the day and have an energy surplus during the evening, caffeine isn't doing you any good.

@@silvulata dude i want some help. I go to sleep at 10 pm and my eye opens automatically at about 2 am every single night. After 2 am i feel full of energy. But i still manage to go to sleep till 5 or maybe 6 am. So technically i manage to get an 7 to 8 hours sleep every night. But at about 2 pm i start feeling sleepy and tired as fuck. So i have this doubt that my brain (circadian clock) thinks that 1:30 - 2am is the morning while 2 pm is the time to sleep. I hope that you will be able to help. And the feeling i get at 2 pm is not that afternoon nap feeling, its more like the proper sleep feeling which people get at night. Yesterday i got to bed at about 2:30 pm thinking that its just an afternoon nap feeling, and i woke up straight at 6 pm, i woke up at 5:30 pm the other day after going to the bed at 2pm. My english was a bit broken sorry about that.

After 3-4 years I fixed my sleeping schedule for 2 weeks that felt like heaven I was sleeping from 11 to 8 without waking up in the middle of sleeping But idk why it didn't last long And something that works for me sleeping in really cool room And just put your phone down on silent mood don't set an alarm let yourself wake up at whatever time it is .

I wake up at 4PM everyday and feel hopeless and bored af for the entire day until like 2AM. Then I randomly get a spike of energy, resulting in me staying up until like 9AM. I''ve tried pulling like 10 all nighters to reset my sleep schedule but nothing works. I'm going insane lmfao.

@@rouvinplayfair1159 All nighters actually fix your sleep scheduele if you have the strength to successfully pull them. If you try to pull an all nighter and you fail and fall asleep at like 3 PM the day after pulling the all nighter, your sleep schedule will be even worse.. it's worth but risky af
