@Goursome2 жыл бұрын
Actually i may be able to help you. If you're trying to start multiple habits or have multiple mindsets etc you're essencially going to fail. The reason some people have productive lifes and don't get really stressed, is that they start one habit at a time and by the time it becomes effortless they start a new one. So they only have to worry about one thing and not many, because the rest are effortless. I hope i helped you 🙃

0:31 This fits with my biggest difficulty: i struggle to switch tasks cause i want to keep doing infinitely, if i could i would finish a 6 month project in a day. I delay the start -many times because of this - but once i do i don't want to stop. So work-life balance? Yeah, we don't do that here. I need to improve my ability of doing stuff only for a set amount of time, letting go and not feeling guilty about it. It's pretty hard not to work until you pass out when you have time and are desperate for results.

I love the forest app but I had no clue they had a sleep one! The main issue is that when I first started university I would go to bed at 10-10:30 every night ... then my boyfriend started working as a pizza delivery driver so sometimes he gets home at 3am. So now I'm nearly gradutating but my usual bed time is 2am. It's really adding to my depression and lack of productivity but then I feel bad if I go to bed and don't see him for days because we are so busy. Poverty life sucks, it's going to be a slow process to claw my way to a better life with a sane sleep schedule.

An important thing I missed explicitly is a discussion of the specific issue with activities that are unbounded, which bleed into the late hours. For instance, KZbin is set up to make you stick to the platform. If I start a KZbin video at dinner around 20:00 without thinking about it, odds are I'll be on KZbin until 22:00 at least, and I'll be restless and have trouble even feeling that I'm tired. I'm experimenting now with (a) forcing myself to cast whatever video I'm watching on my television, so it is more effort to set up and less engaging (for me), (b) choosing a specific thing I am going to watch, and (c) setting a timer, now 45 minutes, and shutting the whole thing down after. Then, I do the dishes and take a shower. If I still have energy, I read or play guitar, but nothing with screens. I notice I am much more tired and readily fall asleep, actually feeling like going asleep, whereas if I'm clicking through boring KZbin stuff, I don't want to go to sleep.

We keep our phones in the living room with charger units. I find that if I stay away from checking my phone/computer feeds at night before bed I have a better sleep. Also, I found that if I stay away from my phone first thing in the morning while getting ready for the day, I get a lot more accomplished quickly & my day isn't "chewed up" before it gets started. However, there are time when I do "break" my own "rules" & regret it later.

Oh boy do I ever have problems with this... and for me it’s been a lifelong struggle. Part of it is biochemical for me, as I’m battling delayed sleep-phase syndrome as part of ADHD. My brain/body seems to not only not properly produce the right sleepiness signals at the right times, but I’ve also learned that when I have managed to manufacture the sleepiness (through melatonin, plus prescription meds like Intuniv with sleepy side effects), I’ll frequently just ignore them and still stay up too late, often without consciously being aware of that. Which is super helpful. I’ve shifted my evenings meds earlier and earlier, which does at least result in the sleepy feelings being stronger and more noticeable earlier, so if I’m attuned to it and also have my self-discipline and environment aligned, it can totally help with getting to bed. I’m sitting here at 23:15 commenting on KZbin and eating handfuls of M&Ms though, so it’s definitely not a foolproof system! 😆
@EmmaVB824 жыл бұрын
P.S. I loved the behind the scenes on Nebula! I only watched the source vid a few days ago (despite being in the notifications/bell club - see aforementioned ADHD re getting around to things!), but I was blown away by the quality/cinematography/editing, and it was really cool to hear you guys talk about some of the technical detail and what went in to making it happen :)

About watching movies to late, something I try to do is plan my movie watching. I work in the movie industry, but over the past years I’ve been too busy to watch new movies... I just watch the same favourites over and over again, often at times when I should be doing something else... not productive in any way. Lately I’ve tried to plan my movie watching so I’m alert, not stressed and it doesn’t affect any other parts of my life an productivity. This means that I’m not craving those easy hits at the end of the day because I know I have a really good movie night planned for tomorrow night, which makes it easier to go to bed or whatever else I need to do.

Sleepio might be a program worth checking out to take your goals to improve sleep to the next level. It is a 6 week course, one day per week to allow tracking and time to implement the lesson learned. Sleepio is backed by science and you can keep using the tracker even when there are no more lessons to learn. It will continue to evaluate your sleep as long as you keep entering data into it and can suggest lessons to review or help adjust the sleep window over time. I received the program from my former company and can still use it although I no longer work there.
