After going about my daily routine, I had to come back here to leave a comment. At the time when doing the exercise, it really didn’t feel like much. I would say my compensation was not that drastic. However, I’ve notice a big difference in my movements that always created a tightening/pinched sensation (bending down to pick up things, walking and turning, even just sitting feels better). Now, I feel very loose and I’m not having to fight that sensation of tightness in my hip/knee/ankle/foot. I’m excited to workout this evening because that tightness always affected my workouts. It’s the little things that end up making a big difference. Thank you!

This is really interesting because at 52 years old I just had the realization that my stance is duck foot. I think this also has contributed to my weak outer hip area, causing me to have more of a square-shaped butt instead of being able to build the muscles that would plump it out to be more bubble like. So I started recently to work on walking with my feet faced straight ahead, and I noticed that it was causing my knees to start popping because they are not used to walking that way. I also can feel my outer hips engaged more with my correct posture. I have been doing machine Pilates for over a decade and wished I had noticed this before!

Tight glute can cause that. Maybe your legs are straight, but your hip is external rotated. Then you should stretch it and exercise internal rotators of the hip

@@Juaumxinhu when you do lunges, you activate quads and they take bigger load of your weight then glutes. So after exercise your glutes become more relaxed. Does your feet look outside? @EarthSurfer4 ай бұрын
These are the movements I used to modify my gait over the past 9 months when guided by a physical therapist. I had been in orthotics for 30+ years (with over 12,000 miles of long distance backpacking). I have rigid, high arch feet, likely made worse by orthotics trying to "correct" the motion of my foot. These exercises were only the beginning a process of adjustment and alignment that is still working its way through my body. At 60 y/o, I don't have the flexibility of my younger years. A few weeks after starting the process, I had knee cap (patella pain) for a few weeks (original reason for orthotics), but that subsided as I worked correcting the rotation and stretching the calf muscles. The hips began to complain because the femur was moving into correct alignment. Although I had excellent hip mobility, the connecting tissue is still normalize to a new neutral position. At present, the adjustments are working their way through my spine, and seem to be stuck between my shoulder blades. I am hoping the journey up my body ends soon! (I had been told to expect 6-18 months for the process.) Recently, one of my long time hiking buddies commented he could no longer pick out my footprints on the trail by the widely splayed feet. (Although duck feet may return when I am tired.) As part of the process, I went through several different shoes, and found the Altra Olympus 7 with the stock insoles to be a good fit for me. As a zero drop shoe, it helped lengthen my calf muscles. Additionally, I needed the cushioning since I don't have thick fat pads. Rather than wearing out the cushioning on the inside of the shoe from my driving the arch of the orthotic into the ground to allow the foot to roll over, the shoe wears evenly which results in the shoe lasting substantially longer.

I used to have osgoods Schlatter or whatever you call it on my that same knee. usually when I walk or run and sprint and cut for my sport it seems my im running on the inside of the right foot because of that lack of internal tibial rotation, probably from my stiff knee due to Osgood Shlatter. Is it possible to gain that internal tibial rotation back to stack my joint on my right side better? or will it just stiffen up again
@johnhodgeman39804 ай бұрын
Both my feet turn out, more on the left. I have flat feet. Left foot is flat. Right foot has somewhat of an arch. Interestingly, if I have my feet up like I'm laying down, my feet are not really flat or flat at all. Theres an arch. It's when I stand on my feet that I lose the arch. My left hip is ER and forward. Right hip is IR. Probably too much (FAI hip impingement). My left tibula/shin and foot are IR, probably bc my left femur is ER and forward. My right tibia/shin and foot are more ER, probably bc my right femur is IR and maybe even sitting somewhat back. So I'd wager to fix the feet and the stress on my knees, I need to start fixing my hips, shins (this video), and the feet.

@Yes-dc7uq2 ай бұрын
How is this supposed to work? It doesn’t feel right to twist the shin inwards. When I align my feet and try to make my feet point straight instead of pointed out, my shins rotate more inwards because my feet are rotating inwards, so if rotating the shins like this actually works then wouldn’t it make it worse?

They will, I spent 62 years walking with my feet pointing out, high arches, always wearing down the outside of my heel of my shoes. Conor had another video that helped me beat it completely and easily. Half a paper towel folded up and placed inside my sock inside my arch. It allows the arch to feel the ground, and then focus on moving your weight from the outside of the heel to the inside. After a few weeks I stopped using the paper towel. When you feel the weight shift to the inside, it then goes from the heel along the arch to the ball and big toe. The tibia is turning inside for this to happen. I never got my tibia to initiate the turn, my arch refused to relax and allow it, so I went to the source, the arch, and that was due to another of his videos.
