Very good wave analysis! I study waves, but still need help with transition in my knowledge to surfing better. I’ve been intermediate surfer for a few years and trying to break out of the intermediate to become advanced. Living on the North Shore helps. Just wanted to give you a shout out and thank you for your videos great job. If you’re ever in a Haleiwa let me buy you a drink 😏

I've started hitting the top on takeoff recently and found it great for setup + speed boost as I am trying to land floaters at the moment. I was shocked however when I got to a shallower bank and the wave sucked up quickly and pitched me with the lip - ouch - straight onto my neck. But hey, taught me to be prepared for tubes and more than just watching the wave when you're on it, predict behavior by watching the waves before you head out.

For learning to rip I would say flow is the most important thing. Don't worry about maneuvers, just focus on flowing with the power of the wave to get the longest ride possible. All turns and maneuvers are really just a by-product of maximizing flow and will become stronger and more radical naturally with time
@chopsnz885 жыл бұрын
Great video Kale! I think some of the best flow masters are Tom Curren, Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, JJF, Mick Fanning, Julian Wilson and for the ladies Stephanie Gilmore and Carissa Moore. As you point out it's there ability to surf top to bottom of the wave and then fit the right manoeuvre in the right section. Great surfing, round house cuttie and air reverse by the way!

When I think of flow surfing I think of Joel Tudor. He rides any board that you put in front of him.....he surfs with NO wasted movements and he doesn't look stiff. He looks so relaxed.

love these videos!! really helpful and inspiring! If you could make a video that shows how to read a wave from the surfers point of view going down the line that'd be some serious froth! for me at least.. One of my biggest problems is not knowing when to cutback or when to race sections... Do you look 5,10,15 meters down the line? do you look for the section and wait for the attack? does the wave tell you what to do as you're approaching the sections? Thanks and keep up the amazing work!!

I have a hybrid fish, thruster fin set up with a narrow swallow tail, wondering what you guys think about taking the back fin out when the surf is really small
@youdigsurf5 жыл бұрын
in case they dont answer, if it a really narrow tail you should try medium fins if you are riding large and medium center or smaller center aka stabiliser in twin setup. Surely riding a twin fins will help but not all board can go from thruster to twin for exemple my puddle jumper really lack of speed generation if i use a twin mr.

Okay so i tried performing a maneuver for the first time the other day and got totally psyched out by this guy at the bottom of the wave that was obviously in my way. So i totally choked at the lip of the wave on my way back down the face and ended up falling straight on the guy. What do you think I should've done in that situation?

hi could you please recommend me a board, I'm a 12 year old girl weighing about 40-42 kgs. I can catch white wash & green (unbroken) waves , I want to start to learn manoeuvres but I don't know what board . I am currently using a mick fanning 6'6 beastie but I can't exactly start to do things on that as it's a foamie kinda , I've been told I should move on to my first short board so if someone could recommend me a board please?

@dishsoap68955 жыл бұрын
aleah jane Okay. I'm going to make the assumption you're gonna start on smaller waves. If I were you I would try to get a board with relatively fatter rails as wider frame. This will allow you to easily get yourself into smaller waves and start trying different maneuvers. As for length I'd probably select a 5'0 if possible or something close to that length. Just suggestions. Definitely talk to other surfers and see what they say but that's what I would select, personally

It depends on the turn - watch any pro and they always spend speed on certain turns

@@HowtoRip maybe so but if they're good enough the end of the turn will leave them placed to replace the speed. hence you should always come out of turns with as much if not more speed
