Saw some fluid coming from my dust boot on the steering rack. It looks pretty black and in much need of a flush. Really hoping I don't need a new steering rack.

I’d replace the whole steering rack.

Don’t forget to pump the brakes on 1994-2004 V8s, they use a Hydro-Boost system for the brakes.

I did the same overhaul as you on my 93 fox. Your videos and parts were a lot of help! My question is if EVERYTHING is new... can I leave the new hoses attached at the bottom and just start by filling the reservoir?
@latemodelrestoration Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your business and the great feedback. Your question needs more context? At what point are you referring to in the flush/bleed process? -Landan
@metalderek8376 Жыл бұрын
@latemodelrestoration so I have installed a new rack, solid steering shaft, pump, lines, added filter, and new cooler tube. Everything is good to go, except there is no fluid in the system. My dad suggested that since everything is new to just fill it as it runs and not worry too much since it's a self bleeding system. Your input? Landan, I hope you're enjoying the new Mustang!
@latemodelrestoration Жыл бұрын
@@metalderek8376 The new Mustang is pretty neat. Thanks for clarifying where you're at in the process. Add fluid per the video and you'll be ready to roll. -Landan

So the upper hose goes to the bottom and the bottom hose is the one on top? Wouldnt it make more sense to call the top hose the top hose, and the bottom hose the bottom hose?
@latemodelrestoration3 ай бұрын
I stated it the way I did for people that need to know where the other end of the hose gets connected. Some folks are dealing with cars that don't any parts at all and need any extra explanation to help them with what they're doing. -Landan

Would I need to do this if iam installing the power steering Rebuild kit? All components will be new.
@latemodelrestorationАй бұрын
If all components are new, just fill and bleed the system. -Landan

@@latemodelrestoration thanks Landan… however I won’t be replacing the power steering pump cooler. Will I need to flush the system if I don’t replace the cooler?
@latemodelrestorationАй бұрын
@@MustangsANDmore Just take it off and flush it on the bench. Flushing the system with the cooler tube still in place is troublesome due to the design. -Landan

I’m getting a pretty nasty wheel/steering shudder and noisy pump when turning at slow speeds/idle. new rack, pump, lines, etc could it be because I used type f atf instead of mercon V? It goes away if I increase idle dramatically or if wheels are off the ground
@latemodelrestoration Жыл бұрын
Drain the fluid and fill it with Mercon V and see what happens. If the issue still exists, you can add a bottle of friction modifier to the system. This is an old trick of the trade. Just make sure you remove some fluid first before adding the friction modifer. You don't want to overfill the system. -Landan

So did all this with car off then did with car on but now I have a whine. Why? I turned lock to lock. Don't see any bubbles.

tim - Based on the other comment that I sent you on another video, drain the Type F fluid and run Mercon V. You can also add some Motorcraft XL-3 friction modifier to the system to help quieten down the pump. -Landan

I sent cardone pump back and ordered a new oem ford pump. Why mercon v? It calls for type f
@timsimons8946 Жыл бұрын
Update: Replaced the cardone reman. pump with oem new pump and replaced type f fluid with mercon v. Much better. No idle growl. Little whine when I turn but not bad. How much friction modifier should I use? Entire bottle or just a little? Thanks.
@latemodelrestoration Жыл бұрын
@@timsimons8946 That's good to hear! Thanks for the update. I just use the entire 4oz bottle. First, I remove 4oz of fluid with a turkey baster or syringe and then pour the friction modifier into the reservoir. -Landan
