@JafffaAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig, that is very kind of you to say. No I did not change the filter in this particular video, but I have done it in the past. It’s not as critical to change at the same time as a fluid change like an engine oil filter is. The transmission filter is a course mesh almost like fly screen and is really only good for filtering out birds and small children. Cheers😎👍
@rahalati6 ай бұрын
Thanks Terry. Just to double check, you did three flushes ( 2 litters each) I presume you add 2 litters after each flush. Right? Also I presume you keep the flush hose and switch the car off during the filling of the 2 litters, right?. Also, do we need to change transmission fluid filter?
@JafffaAdventures6 ай бұрын
That is correct on both accounts mate. I did not change the filter because it’s a pretty course mesh and really only good for filtering out birds and small children. Having said that, if you have the pan off for whatever reason it can’t hurt. Cheers😎👍

Hi Terry I see your using the same 12v pump for your trans as you did for your diffs. As I’ve recently purchased the same pump after your last vid. I’m wondering how you chose to flush the pump before using on your trans? Keep up the great vids mate👍
@JafffaAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Good eye Robert, you are definitely correct. On the first pan drain I kept 1 litre of old ATF aside and used that to flush the pump out before using it in the new fluid. In addition, I ran 100ml or so of new fluid through it before putting the hose in the fill hole and filling the transmission back up. Thanks for watching and commenting mate, I sincerely appreciate it.

@Jafffa Adventures I ended up buying the same pump and started to do the oil in my diffs. Just to fill the rear (2.5ltr of 80w90) took nearly half an hour. Don’t like the thick oil at all which sucks because that’s what I bought it for lol.
@JafffaAdventures3 жыл бұрын
That’s odd Robert, mine takes under 2 minutes to fill the diff. I’m using 85W90 gear oil at ambient temperature of 25C or so. Either you are running a different pump than I am, your suction or delivery lines are smaller than mine (I’m just using the ones the pump came with) or your lubricant viscosity is significantly thicker. Very strange indeed mate🤔

Hey Terry, have you changed the filter in it also ?
@JafffaAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Good question Tieran. The Aisin AB60F transmission in the 200 has a mesh-type oil filter located within the transmission pan. It is a reasonably course filter and generally only good for filtering out branches, large stones, and small children! There is no need to routinely change this type of filter, as opposed to the fibre type. I swap mine out every third flush. Thanks for asking mate!!
@abh19452 жыл бұрын
Great video, I have a question what is the capacity of the oil should be in the transmission is it 11.1 liter?😅 because in the menu it says auto transmission for 1GR FE engine it will take 11.1 liter and people says it should be 6 liter only I’m a little bit confused a little help will be great and thanks 🙏🏻 n advance
@JafffaAdventures2 жыл бұрын
One value would be including what’s in the torque converter, one without. If you just drain the sump on the transmission you will not get all of the fluid out of the transmission internals, and you won’t get anything out of the torque converter. That’s why you have to flush it. The 11.1 litres is for a full replacement. Cheers👍😎
@abh19452 жыл бұрын
@@JafffaAdventures unfortunately I changed the oil and filter but with out flushing it now I need to drain it again to check the level of oil so now do I need to flush it or not ? Thanks Terry. Another great video worth watching even if, like me, you don't drive a LC. I was particularly interested in your lock-up torque converter kit. I know you can buy one for a Pajero (my vehicle) and I've been very interested in how they work. Another very helpful guy on KZbin (Denmonkey) has a Pajero and did a detailed install on fitting the kit to his Pajero but last I heard he had some issue with it and the promised review on how it was going after a reasonable review period didn't materialise. I also know he won't usually say negative things about products he tests, preferring to say nothing at all. So, I'm wondering how you regard the kit and whether you see any negatives with fitting one. I tow a 2.5t van with my Pajero and I can definitely imagine some positive fuel savings if I fit one. On the other hand buggering up my transmission to save a few dollars in fuel doesn't sound all that appealing. Thanks again for taking the time to share your expertise and experience.
@JafffaAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question Steve, and I must preface my response with the statement that I know nothing about Pajero's or the aftermarket lock up kits that you can get for them. Having said that, there are two main suppliers of the kits for the 200 series and there are hundreds, possibly even thousands of kits out there on the market. I have never had any feedback that the TCL kits have damaged the transmission in any way. And if I think of that logically, I can't see why they would damage a transmission. They are not doing anything that the transmission already cannot do, they are just applying the lock up when you want it, not when the computer decides you need it. If you have not done so already, perhaps you could reach out to the individual that fitted the kit in the video you mentioned and ask the question directly. I did not fit my kit for the fuel savings aspect, for me it was all about managing transmission temperatures to ensure a long transmission life. I have heard others mention improved fuel economy but I never monitored that on my car so I cannot comment. I trust this is in some way useful Steve. Thanks for watching and asking the question mate, I sincerely appreciate it. Cheers
@steveberg26853 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terry. Like you, I monitor my trans temps with a scan gauge. Fuel savings would be just a bonus byproduct. My primary concern was whether the kit would have a detrimental effect on the transmission and I thank you for your thoughts.

@@JafffaAdventures So good! One last silly question, how do you connect it to the battery in the engine bay when your car is on the hoist like that? do you have long battery leads or just a spare battery next to the pump?
@JafffaAdventures Жыл бұрын
On my battery I have installed a short lead about 200mm long with an Andersen plug on one end which stays connected permanently. I then chopped the cig plug off the pump and replaced it with an Andersen. Now I just pop the bonnet, plug the pump Andersen plug into the short lead on the battery and it’s good to go. The pump comes with one of those coiled type leads that stretches out a good few meters so plenty of length for the hoist application 👍😎

Good video Terry. Not having a hoist I just get the local transmission shop to do mine. I tow a van pretty regular and do mine every 12 months and also have a trans lock kit. When I was in my younger days you would do flush by separating the cooler line and catch what is being pumped out and have a hose into clean fluid on the other end sucking in clean fluid as the other was being pumped out. Do you think this would work on a 200 ?

Hyundai service manual for my Sonata says that the ATF turning black is normal and doesn't indicate that the oil needs replacing. I'm aware they could be trying to get you to screw up the transmission but this was written in 2000 so I suppose things weren't so bad back then
@JafffaAdventures6 ай бұрын
A change in colour can only mean the chemical or physical properties of the fluid have changed or there is contamination from wear parts or contamination introduced from the environment. Whatever the scenario, something has changed from when it was originally installed and that’s reason enough for me to swap it out. 👍
