The most important part of this video is that you wore a “WA Prado 4x4” shirt… you have stayed true to your routes! 😏 Thanks for the tips, will give it a go on my cruiser.

That shirt has seen more than its fair share of oil, grease, mud and sweat, trust me :P Cheers mate!

Heya, just to point out on transfer oil. You can use GL-5 75w-85 same with rear diff and front. Toyota specifically asked for GL5 75w-90 on earlier models 07-10. However this changed on 2011 onwards. This information is directly from Toyota and Penrite Oils. It’s definitely easier using same oil for all three. Hope that helps.

This is great work. I learnt a lot from this as I've always used the dealer. Cost $950 for the 200,000km major at Toyota

Hi, good video. Japan engineers have a trick no-one seems to have found. That hard PVC filter housing that's like the old Baker-lite, has a coefficient of thermal expansion 4 times that of the aluminium it screws into. That's why they never come loose. You should always drop the engine oil Hot so rubbish gushes out with the oil, but the filter housing will be bit tight to undo. I remove that 3/8 drive disc and drain filter. Freezer bag with ice cubes hold around the filter cap to cool it. Little bit easier, not much, to unscrew. I use cap tool Ryco RST206 to remove the filter. After cleaning Sit the cap the Ice cubes 15 min to really cool. New filter (pre soaked in some 5W-30 - your choice to pre-soak) and see how easy this cap screws back in. Torque 25 Nm is more accurate. Thermal expansion is why these 200 caps Never come loose. I'd use them on a 70 series too; they have alloy caps. Thanks for your great effort here.

I ended up cutting a hatch where the filter is and a bit of plate back over it with tech screws. Heaps better.

Great video. Have you still got the 200? Would you recommend a second hand 200 as a daily and occasional offroading? Am curious about the fuel economy and reliability compared to 100 or 300 series.

Thanks for the video effort. ??? Shouldn't there have been a circlip on the 200 oilfilter? Also can you update the 200 plastic oilfilter cover with the 79' alloy cover on V8? Thanks
@offroadcrusader
@offroadcrusader 6 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Nah no circlip on the filter element, it just clicks in over a knurling in the housing. The alloy filter cover would definitely be a good upgrade, I'll look into it

Amazing, thanks for the tips! btw IMO you have missed two things: chassis lubrication and cabin filter. Im sure you're aware of it but for the audience matters it is good to mention.

Thanks! Chassis lube, do you mean greasing the uni joints? Cabin filter is important but wasn't required this time. I'll do a video about it later this year.

@offroadcrusader
@offroadcrusader 8 ай бұрын
Hey mate, no not yet. The car has only done 127,000kms so it's not a high priority, but I do want to get it done mostly for piece of mind and to see what improvement it offers. I will definitely film it and upload it when I do though. Cheers!

Couldn’t you leave the fuel filter housing in place, removing the filter and replace then removing on If there’s too much gunk in then clean properly
@offroadcrusader
@offroadcrusader 7 ай бұрын
Yeah for sure, you definitely could. It's only 2x bolts to remove it completely though and for the video it's a lot easier filming on a workbench.

Any tips on how to protect LC electrical when doing river crossing? 2:19
@offroadcrusader
@offroadcrusader 9 ай бұрын
Using a water repellant spray or non-polar substance such as CRC or WD-40 over important electrical connections really helps. Dielectric grease in the plugs themselves helps a lot too, so water can't get in. Best thing is to keep the engine running to keep warm air circulating under the bonnet, which will help dry things out sooner and move water out of crevices.

I use inox mx3 on electrical components to give them bit of barrier.

@offroadcrusader

Transmission oil change deserves a video all on its own, as the process on these cars requires more knowhow than I would like to squeeze into this video. It's definitely on the list of videos to make this year, so keep an eye out!

Because my cruiser is essentially a tractor (for my caravan) I have the trans fluids changed every 40K km. 250K+ km already and Transmission as good as new.

those oil filter caps and metal tube should be thrown out and buy a new one as the pipe falls out then filter compacts and starves the engine it's highly recommended by diesel engineers
