Hey Gwen/Damien, Awesome video! After my initial failures at dock-starts, I revisited this video to correct some of my missteps. I can now say that your tips on: foil selection, the mechanics of jumping on the board, and the mechanics of pumping were all "game-changing" ;) Truth be told, I made about 25 attempts per session over 4 days averaging 0-1 pumps day one, 1-2 pumps day two, 2-4 pumps day three, and 3-6 pumps day four. In my case, it took that long to write the muscle memory into my sub-conscious. My setup: 2400-cm2 foil, 232-cm2 stab, 60-cm fuse, 1 degree shim, and 72-cm mast with a 39L board (Armstrong). What surprised me was how wide of a stance I required with my setup relative to what I have observed in videos of experienced pump-foilers. Is that b/c my foil was so large? Or, my beginners technique? Thanks for helping to open up new opportunities for my foiling, -Stuart @BoardMaverick p.s. An additional tip for beginners is to wear a jersey or thin wetsuit on top to protect your back as you repeatedly fall and smack the water !

I think you should add board height relative to dock position makes a huge difference

Devon from the channel Wake Thief has created a simple PVC 'stand' that holds the board and you can run down the dock and jump on the board and start pumping.

Thanks Gwen..today was my 3rd session and I was able to glide..still figure out my foot placement. Past 2 sessions I was fighting with fear of jumping off the dock onto board and now after got comfortable without having my shins or arms hitting the board or Foil like last sessions..knock..knock!!…though I wear full wetsuit, helmet, impact vest..I am looking forward to practicing more. Btw..I do dock & beach start one after the other in every session I can..😅 update it’s my 5 session today 11/17 while wife & daughter were having nice time in Mexico city, used phone for video to re-watch mistakes & correct hehe..

wonderful video on dock starting. the hand on top of the board is great advice I need to try. so far I dock swim, LOL Could you do a video on wake thieving with the efoil. I tried yesterday and face planted each time. I have the 200 surf easy and 38 with the shorter mast and 5'4 board. The regular prop with housing as well. the issues I am trying to get sorted are approach to the wave, flying height, throttle control coming up to the wave and then releasing to try to surf, and lastly pumping. love the efoil!

Good video 👌but how to adjust the foil under the board? Does it have an importance? Hoe to know if we have to put it front ward or backwards?

Brilliant tutorial. Thanks. Do you have the Mast position all the way to the front? Cheers
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
"Thank you! If you are strapless, mast position isn't too important in my opinion because if you move the mast an inch, you can achieve the same result by moving your feet an inch. What matters is your position in relation to the foil. When I jump on the board, my feet position isn't precisely the same every time so I either make a tiny adjustment of my feet on the fly, or if close enough I compensate slightly with my body position. First step is to dial in your feet position to feel good when on foil. Unless you find your feet not being where you want them to be on the board when on foil, the mast position is fine. If your feet are too far back on the board, move your mast forward so your feet can move forward, if your feet are too far forward on the board, move your mast back so your feet can move back." - Gwen

Hello Gwen is it better to have a bigger board to practice dock start ? I am 145 lbs would the Special agent board you use be too big for me ?
@DamienLeroyYouTube

The 105 Special Agent would work for you: wingfoilprocenter.com/collections/pump-foiling/products/special-agent-mkii Or the 3'7 Logic: wingfoilprocenter.com/collections/pump-foiling/products/02f-logic

Awsome. How many attempts is normal until to be able to jump under control on the board, mantain the balance and start doing some pumps. I find it so difficult, I have been for now 4 times, each time about 15 attempts and still very much out of balance when jumping on the board. I am 49 so dont have the fexibility to jump while still touching the board with the hands which would be the smoothest way. My jumos on the board are more heavy. I use the same technique but releasing the hands before and jumping then. Thx for any tips that makes this easier. Lower dock or higher dock easier, etc...? thx alot.

The progression really depends on a lot of factors, so it's hard to compare with anybody else. We recommend to be able to do at least 10 pumps on flat water starting with speed (behind the boat, winging, off a wave prone foiling) before jumping to dock starts. If you have at least 10 pumps on flat water dialed, then maybe a board holder would help. We will make a video soon on how to build your own board holder so stay tuned! :)

My question : For the beginer, can we use small lifebuoy under the board? ( so we are not sinking easily)
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
You could, but if you go down too much while pumping and it touches the water, it would be so much drag it's gonna stop you, where you may have been able to save it without it.

I would say not as much if you keep the foil moving and on foil.

Je viens de réaliser que je poussai surtout avec le pied avant. Donc, tu dis qu'il faut pousser surtout avec le pied ? Ça devait être une de mes erreurs principales.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube Жыл бұрын
