Sewing pattern instructions can be daunting, especially if you're a beginner. In this video, I'll be breaking down a few common sewing techniques used in garment construction, specifically women's blouses and tops. While I am making Butterick B6688, other sewing patterns will involve the same / similar steps. I've found McCall's and Butterick to have generous ease, Vogue to be more fitted and accurate to my true measurements.

I use a walking foot 95% of the time. Thinking about doing a video just talking about that and why I do this, it's kind of out of laziness but I find it works for most tasks.

Im new to sewing do we need to change the presser foot? What stitch do you recommend for spandex materials?

I used the walking foot for all of the basic sewing, included with this machine. That's the foot I generally use as a default. You will need some type of stretch stitch (Looks like a lightning bolt) or use a serger / coverstitch for spandex. I don't really sew with spandex, so can't really advise too much. One more thing, when you're new to sewing it is *much* easier to start with woven (non-stretchy) fabrics for your first projects. I've been sewing for over 5 years and still find a lot of stretchy fabrics to be very frustrating to work with. I know a lot of new sewists see cool stuff they want to make, but you need to build confidence in your skills so don't bite off more than you can chew with projects.
