If you used this for a passive house with exposed concrete where would you put the VB?

On the outside of the insulation, behind the cladding. Not 100% textbook ideal, but still very viable.

You wouldn’t require a VB. The exterior foam and the concrete would be the vapour barrier.

See my comment to BradM. To add to this…this assembly is so air tight you wouldn’t be worried about air infiltration either.

Is there a reason you can’t form oil the plywood and use it multiple times?

We never stop and wait. Pour one day. If it’s warm out you can start stripping the next day. By the time you strip down and get prepared to start stacking again there is zero issue. And by the time you are ready to pour it might be a week or more depending on the size of the project. The only time he have had to wait say a week between pours is heavy commercial or industrial. Like a water treatment plant, that kind of thing.

Great video as usual... thank you. Do they do anything special to cold joints when pouring say a 10 story wall?

Thank you Gene! I think the dowels are the most important. And keeping the wall nice and clean. After a certain height you would need the floor to help stabilize such a tall wall.

Hey, thanks for the very informative videos , being from Quebec my english is not that good, soI think I lost you when you said you saved about 30% of Plywhood doing this method, If you leave the first ply. row ( for the concrete to cure ) and make a joint to do the second row of forming how do you save on the material wont it take the same amount of Ply. ?

I wondered the same, but I suspect they strip the plywood from the bottom part of the wall and move it up to pour the top half. As long as the bottom of the plywood is braced tightly against the wall, the concrete should not leak out during the top half pour.

@@LTVoyager I think I understand what you mein, each molding plywood panels seems to be 24 in high, so they stack 3 row of 24 in. for a total of 72 in. they poor the concrete... give some time to cure, remove the first 48in. of forming panel and joint that to the remaining panel ...to form the upper part.

@@raymondtremblay489 That is my best guess, but they could have provided a little more detail in the video.

Cold Joints in Foundations will leak. To Prevent cold-joint foundation leaks, use a Cold Joint Water-Stop between pours. Methods of Treating Cold Joints in Concrete If, however, a cold joint is formed due to unavoidable reasons, the following procedure is adopted for treating it: 1. When Concrete is Still Plastic a) If concrete is so green that it can be removed manually and if vibrators can penetrate the surface without much effort, fresh concrete can be placed directly against the old surface. The old concrete should be covered by fresh concrete as quickly as possible, and the joint should be thoroughly and systematically vibrated. 2. When Cold Joint is Hardened a Bit If the concrete has hardened more than a plastic state but can still be easily removed by a light hand pick, the surface will be raked thoroughly, and the loose concrete removed completely without disturbing the rest of the concrete in depth. A rich mortar layer, 12 mm in thickness, is placed on the cold joint, fresh concrete is then placed on the mortar layer, and the joint is thoroughly and systematically vibrated, penetrating the vibrator deep into the old layer of concrete. 3. When Cold Joint has Hardened In case the concrete at the joint has become so stiff that it cannot be remolded and mortar or slurry does not rise in spite of extensive vibration, the joint is left to harden for at least 12 - 24 hrs., use a Cold Joint Water-Stop.
