I think the key to learning good frontside flips is learning them front shoves where they spin effortlessly under you instead of you jumping backwards to land it. When your front shoves are spinning like that try your fs flips with the same idea. Use that back foot to scoop it so hard u dont need to jump back it just flips under you.

When i saw Tom Penney floating around a demo dropping Fsflips whenever he felt like it, i thought it was the coolest thing id seen. It is a major goal of mine to get this trick. Thanks for the video Ben 👏

The first 180 fs flip ever was a "Muska-style", made actually by Natas. Check his Speed Freaks part, 1989 (The video is from 89, but likely the he made it in 88)

I always thought of those as like a hard flip body varial. When I was first getting seriously into skating way back in highschool around when Fulfill the Dream came out, it seemed like half if ppl did fs flips the 180 way and half the hardflip way. I was always confused how two different tricks could be the same trick lol

This is how I do frontside flips and I'm trying to learn them without the pivot, landing 4 wheels at once. Its a completely different trick. I stumbled on this video while searching for "how to frontside flip without pivot". I feel like doing them this way for so long has built a really bad habit in my muscle memory that's almost impossible to undo. Anyone reading this who wants to have the best fs flip they can, take this as a disclimer and maybe don't follow the advice in this video. Sorry to be rude. You have a nice fs flip it's just not the ideal way to do it if you want to do it down or over stuff. If it's any consolation, even Nyjah does his fs flips like this. But anyone who wants like a decenzo/sandoval/reynolds fs flip then you can't rely on that pivot, and is better off not even starting like that. Your switch one was solid btw.

Thanks for the nice video. I landed a few fs flips and snaped 2 boards stomping too hard while trying to pivot. The thing I'm working on, is getting the board as rocket as possible before fliping to shorten the rotation. You do it perfectly, what helps whitch hardflips aswell, but you didn't mentioned it. Never stop skating folks ;D

I could only do the muska flip. It was just the most natural and easiest way for me to do them. Mind you that was in the early nineties. Now that I’ve started skating skating again at 41, I’m gonna have to revisit them

Illusion / Muska flips not acceptable?! I still like them and think they look good (and I can't do either of them lol). I was personally a big fan of Penny's frontside flip before Reynold's.

Tom Penny's frontside flips were amazing. I actually like Chad Muska's frontside flips. They are on the cusp of being illusion flips but still have some flick in there. He did however unintentionally spawn the illusion flip as we all tried to immitate him. The other two illusion flips in the video were Frank Gerwer and that one was actually a pop shuv body varial and Jason Womack doing a textbook illusion flip( quite a nice one actually). I just don't want to be calling them frontside flips because they aren't.

Flatground is my bane of all things.... I can do a lot of things on a skateboard... but flip tricks get to me... frontside flips, tre flips, hardflips all problems for me... to the point that i avoid trying them cause in my head im never gonna land them... and guess my minds is super powerful cause i really can't do these now...imma try to kickflip pivot i guess or maybe over a hip

Learning KF pivots is super easy, just try to land front foot heavy when you do your kickflips and start practicing ollie frontside pivots a lot. Eventually, you can easily put them together just by moving your shoulders a lil bit and turning your head when you kickflip

Ben I don’t think we’ve ever seen you do a hard flip? I do my frontside flips the “acceptable” way but my hard flips are more muska illusion style. If can tell when I land if it hardlflipped or just did wonky shove and try to keep myself honest. Curious what your hard flips look like.

I’ve never understood how skaters started to do 90s then pivot the rest on the back truck, it makes no sense to me how that counts it looks clean if you don’t quite get the rotation and you slide a bit at the end but I hate it when people pivot on there trucks
