// My Story
I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

Absolutely, Penji, your perspective hits the mark. AI is indeed a tool, a dynamic force that can significantly impact various fields. Its role goes beyond being a mere service or feature; it empowers individuals with a new level of creativity and efficiency. The skill gap you mentioned is pivotal - mastering AI can be a game-changer, particularly in dynamic areas like graphic design. Our alignment on this view reflects the changing landscape where those who embrace and harness AI can excel in ways that were once thought impossible. Kudos for highlighting this shared perspective! 😎👍

I agree with you @dotpenji! As AI continues to disrupt the IT industry, it is crucial for IT professionals to future-proof their careers by developing new skills, cultivating human skills, and staying up-to-date with industry trends. While AI may automate some tasks, it also creates new opportunities for creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. By embracing AI as a complement to human intelligence, rather than a replacement for it, IT professionals can stay relevant and thrive in the AI era.

Great video once again! This is exactly what I keep telling my coworkers - AI is not the end of the world, it's just a tool. They've been acting like the rise of AI spells doom, but I see it as similar to the first hammers. Those became essential for human progress rather than something to fear. AI can improve lives too if we guide it ethically. Just like hammers augmented human capabilities, AI should enhance people rather than replace jobs if we're wise. The early history of basic tools teaches us to focus on the benefits of new technologies. So I'm optimistic that with the right vision, AI can empower society like those early hammers did, not overwhelm us. It's all about how we choose to use and direct this tool going forward.

I just attended an AI conference and saw a great speaker describe it as Thinking vs Thunking! Thinking is the idea, Thunking is the labor or tasks that must be completed to bring the idea to fruition. AI is making thinkers more productive than ever by removing thunking task barriers.

Honestly a lot of these tools help save time wasted troubleshooting or debugging proprietary quirks in each of these tools. Most people would rather be creating new things or solving complex problems rather than dealing with react or typescript quirks for example.

Great video, @TiffinTech, both for the timely topic and also the engaging video edits. Am wrestling myself with the questions you posed about being a generalist versus specialist, and if a specialist, a specialist in what? Clearly, those who understand and can design, develop/implement and use AI technologies are going to be in a favorable position for the foreseeable future. But it's also a big decision and no small investment of one's time to "retool" your own skillset and experience in order to ride the next big wave. One thing to add is that IT professionals can wear both hats as a generalist and specialist. In the Project Management Professional curriculum (and elsewhere), there is mention of "T-shaped" people who are valued on projects because they have both technical and subject matter expertise/depth in a particular area, yet who are also wide enough to interface well with others on the team who are experts in their respective parts of the project.

Developing hard skills is now more important than ever, whether you're a specialist or a generalist. If you don't adapt to new languages and or technology, you will run into issues at a later stage. So, invest in your education and hard skills instead of pushing on a bunch of buttons and use all the 900 AI tools...Fundamentals and problem-solving skills are so important and precious wich these tools take away.
